remaxim
Hi, I am an hobby musician, who is interested in composing a track for 0 A.D.I am composing music for about 2 and a half years and worked on many styles till now. I guess the music that is most similar to what I want to create for your game is probably a commission from some months ago: http://opengameart.org/content/new-commissioned-contentSo if you like it, I d be glad to try to create some music for you. The only problem is that I am offering you only one track (two in best case), as I don't have the time nor the will for a longer commitment. If that is not enough for you or it would cause too much difference between the single tracks, I can truly understand.Feel free to ask stuff that I forgot to mention. I hope I can get a response from the admins (or whoever is responsible for music) soon . Once again sorry for the limited offer, but that is all I can offer atm :/Bye,remaxim Edited December 30, 2009 by remaxim

remaxim
It has been quite a while, so if you actually want me to compose a track, you have to contact me. In the other case it is pretty rude not to answer at all ... so make up your mind and answer me
MattSherman
It has been quite a while, so if you actually want me to compose a track, you have to contact me. In the other case it is pretty rude not to answer at all ... so make up your mind and answer meThanks for the info. On a project like this one must understand the fact that we are graciously donating our free time to 0 A.D. The fact that you have not been contacted further does not imply rudeness or any lack of interest. Perhaps the music department is backed up? Personally, if it was my choice (It is not, music and sound are two different departments) I would avoid people with a negative attitude. When hiring employees or interns for my business, I will avoid rude and impatient attitudes like the one you displayed in your post.Regardless, based on the time frame of this thread. I wouldn't worry about it. Sincerely,
feneur
I'm sorry you didn't get a proper answer. The only reason I can think of that might have lead me to not respond would be that you'd seemed like someone who was making a commercial offer, but I doubt that so I can only say I'm sorry.Generally I'd say that one or two tracks is not enough as we'd like to have a greater consistency between tracks which is hard if too many people are involved. On the other hand one more track is one track closer to having all finished, so it would be stupid of us to say no if your offer is good enough. What I mean by that is, do you think you'd be prepared/able to create something that is similar in style to the music that already exists for the game? (Some of which might be found on http://www.wildfiregames.com/0ad/page.php?p=1495 )
remaxim
@Matt Sherman: Well, I guess you don't have much experience in the free gaming world yet, nor the FOSS community in general. You won't find much people to help you if you ignore them a month and then write unfriendly answers to an impatient notice. As I don't want any money, but just offered my help for free and was demanding nothing else than a soon answer (as I have to plan my time for many more projects), I think a slight negative attitude is totally within limits. I personally have no interest at all who you would hire or not in your business ...( if you want emotional robots, then it is absolutely your choice). As this is a FOSS project and not a business it is not comparable anyways.@feneur:I am a bit angry at the moment about the attitude of Matt... I need to cool down first and then check if I can compose something in a similar style. I guess I will be able to tell you if I can compose something like that in about 1 till 2 days and maybe also have a sample of it already. And thanks for your answer bye, remaxim Edited February 6, 2010 by remaxim
MattSherman
Thanks remaxim for your tactful response. I will spare you the comments on your post for the moment :-) I look forward to hearing your piece when it is finished.Hang tight and someone from the music department will get back to you after listening. remaxim
Sorry that it took me a while to try out some things and check the music.I have to admit that my style is quite different to the songs you have till now. My style is mostly loop based, while Boris seems to have an rather traditional approach to composing. Although I did some samples I guess this piece probably describes best what my track will probably sound like: http://opengameart.org/content/boss-themeIMO it definitely doesn't mix well with the stuff you have till now, but if you need new composers anyway I can add 1 or 2 tracks. It is really up to you, just let me know.Bye,remaxim
MattSherman
remaxim,Thanks. I am listening now. Some of this sounds very "MIDI" in timber. Do you have access to any sample based orchestral synthesizers such as East West Symphonic or something of the like? I would also like to speak with you on MSN. I am on at the moment : fojosian@hotmail.com

janwas
We've had to require 10 posts before enabling PMs to combat the spam problem. Unfortunately I can't see where this can be disabled for individual users in the control panel. Erik, can you give me a pointer?
feneur
It's possible to do by changing the member group from Community Users to Community Members I've made the change for remaxim now if you want to send a PM Matt (or if you want to send a PM remaxim ).
