Paal_101 Posted October 1, 2006 Share Posted October 1, 2006 Indeed, today is the anniversary of the Battle of Gaugamela, a battle that truly changed the world forever, finally establishing European ascendency on the development of technology and culture after a 2500 year monopoly in the Near East and Nile. Above all else the battle created the political climate that ultimately allowed Rome to develop with practically zero Macedonian influence on its politics and growth. Stone's portrayal of it in "Alexander" was nearly SPOT on... even down to the charge of the hypaspists and the oblique line the Macedonians took. The coolest battle scene shot was when Alexander makes the quick left turn. It's like at that moment you knew they were going to win (although we already knew who wins ahead of time).
