  1. love the unit design, but they look kinda creepy without facial features....
  2. The picture is a bit too small, is it possible to get a bigger map?
  3. Since we can't be sure who will be leading the armies in this imaginary battle, let's just assume that both armies are led by more or less equal commanders, and focus on weaponry and common formations at the time, since a good commander will always defeat a bad one.
  4. His book is abstract so that it can be applied to every situation no matter how weapons and tactics have changed. It can even be applied to running a business or politics! However a few chapters were notably less abstract, like the chapter on using terrain, the one on espionage and the one on using nature against the enemy Sun Tzu lived in a time where chariots were popular, during the Han dynasty, riders became more popular and became the bulk of cavalry forces. So tactics did changed. However, the famous statesman Wan Anshi once said that the general Han Xin (who played a large role in building the dynasty) "Used only one or two of Sun Tzu's sentences, and still won victories and became famous" This shows that generals still finds his writing useful after all these years.
  5. That isn't nerdy, that's called being smart - learning from one of the greatest general in Chinese history is going to help a lot. I myself have a Chinese book examining the book in detail, and how his points prove to be true using example from around the world. From battles during the fall of Qin, to the quite recent Gulf War. The scary thing is that there's so many books on that one book alone, it can be counted as a genre itself. Back on topic, even if the Roman take out their tetsudo formation, Chinese engineering will take care of that. I don't care how powerful your shields are, they can't block giant rocks hurled across the sky. Not to mention the Chinese have some of the best siege crossbows (ballistas) in the world
  6. In fact, repeating crossbow has been found in tombs dating as early as 4th century BC, it is only believed to be invented during the three kingdoms era (the fall of Han) because the design was improved by the renowned strategist Zhuge Liang. So we still have them! I doubt any close range infantry can stand being fired at by thousands of bolts over and over again (the most common tactic used for repeating crossbows) swoosh HEADSHOT!!!!
  7. No reply So Chinese win by default right?
  8. I trust you guys I'm sure you'll try to show off anyway, so... yeah
  9. Yeah... the game sound awesome and the tactical elements should at least help me a bit in the game. However don't expect me to play online, I'm not really good with these games, and the ping will be terrible (I live in Vietnam )
  10. Yeah, a sample video will be very cool, and tells us haw much of the game is finished.
  11. or a big mac that is as big as the realistic ships in the game that can go on land and water I think I'm crazy now
  12. what about ninjas? as in the stereotypical ninja in popular culture, not what they are like in real life. so they can flay around and their katana is absurdly powerful
  13. Please, I think we can talk about censorship in another thread, this one is about the combat system of 0 A.D. Let's forget the censorship problem for now, and discuss the game
  14. Depends on the community, if the community is immature, then censorship will benefit everyone. However if the community is mature, then censorship wouldn't be needed. Anyway, back on topic, post which system you prefer and why?
  15. I hate you. wait... searching.... Ah, REPEATING CROSSBOWS. and the Chinese cavalry defeated Xiongnu, an empire believed to be the same as the Huns in Roman sources I highly doubt that Roman cavalry will be superior than Chinese cavalry, which defeated an empire which lives off its cavalry and we also have rotating arcuballistas and catapults
  16. And I just found out we have MOUNTED CROSSBOWMEN in the Qin dynasty, before the Han! no reason for them not to deploy the MOUNTED CROSSBOWMEN!!!!!! Romans better run, then get impaled by bolts of the MOUNTED CROSSBOWMEN!!!
  17. Well... yeah the Romans were more disciplined... /search counter-argument errr... kung fu? lol most infantry are farmers so almost no discipline, but I doubt the Roman cavalry can fight the Chinese cavalry that was influenced by the nomadic tribes of the north
  18. ok... then I think the Chinese army will win because they have powerful crossbows that can penetrate armor, and cavalry that can flank the infantry heavy Romans
  19. The Huns rely heavily on calvary, thus their army is highly mobile, which means they can reinforce their troops and strongholds when looking at the big picture, and attack at the flanks and rear in battle
  20. technically, yes. but in a RTS game being able to micro means you can implant you plans faster, both in a battle and in your base. in a RTT game combat is usually the focus, and micro in RTT doesn't involve in shifting from your base to your army every 5 seconds. This is even worse in a fast paced RTS. In RTT your unit can't just disengage if they're in melee, meaning micro that fast will tie up your troops all over the place, giving your opponent opening and weak points to expose.
  21. So I was wondering... will the combat in 0 AD be standard real time strategy like AOE (rock paper scissor combat emphasizing unit choice and resource management) or real time tactics like the Total War series (simulation of real world tactics, emphasizing positioning and morale)? Personally I prefer real time tactics because I can't micro but then the game is classified as an RTS...
  22. One of the Spartan king is inspecting his warriors, the Spartan hoplites are exited about the battle and are training with each other. The king walked around the camp, speaking words of encouragement to his troops. Morale is very high and the Spartans are expecting a spectacular victory and glory for their families.
  23. The Spartan king of the Agiad line is discussing the war with the king of the Eurypontid line. They are unsure of what they should do since there will be a duel soon. A suprise attck is out of the question since it's cowardly to do so. In the end, the Kings decides to wait for rest of the Greeks to attack and when things look bad, the Spartan hoplites will charge in, boosting the morale of the Greek armies since the Spartans are famous for their awesome warriors. The major morale boost and the Spartan's expertise on combat should turn the tides. If the Greeks are fighting a easy battle then the Spartans will stay behind and, for once, let the Greeks claim the glory. OOC : Yes, in case you didn't know, the Spartans had 2 kings simultaneously, and if someone is going to say that the Spartan didn't have kings during the Trojan War, I'm gonna have them anyway. Fun > Historical Accuracy although most of the time, Fun = Historical Accuracy
