I cannot contain my joy.

I just downloaded and ran it, and I am absolutely stunned at how gorgeous everything looks. Great job team!

I could be wrong, but I believe that the rider is supposed to be on a smaller Asian Elephant or North African Elephant (Now extinct), as African Bush Elephants have, I think, never (or very rarely) successfully been tamed.

I agree with omicron1; I was about to say the same thing... otherwise, it's a beautiful screenshot and it makes me even more excited to see how 0AD turns out.

will you be able to rotate the world in game?
if not, units might end up hidden and forgotten behind walls and other tall objects.
as a long time lurker and occasional commentator, i feel like i should know this by now.

wow.
that's good.

YEAH! After 0 A.D., let's make a WWI game!
-
brilliant!
-
ok, well it was just a thought
I really am looking forward to playing it...

wow, great article!

concerning buildings and unit production, will units just "pop out" in front of the building, or will they actually walk out?

Here's a few cavalry related ideas:
I really like the idea of cavalry dismounting, which has already been brought up several times. I also think that the riderless horses should run back to the nearest (or player selected) stable and wait for their masters there. Then the horseless riders could call them back when they wanted to ride again.
When cavalry units are near death, say with 10-15% health left, there could be a 50% chance of their horses dying before they do, and they would become injured "dismounted cavalry" (or just standard infantry, whatever works). The total population would also go down by one, of course, as half of the two-point cavalry just died.
This would heighten realism and could make things more interesting in the heat of battle.
Another idea expanding on this is to have the "dismounted cavalry" retain their earned rank. That way, if they could escape the battle and make it back to the stable, the player could pay one population point and have them re-mounted, turning them into the original cavalry, with the rank they had when they fell off their horse.

I really enjoyed how in C&C 3, the player had the option of which style and difficulty the enemy had. (e.g. Hard Steamroller , Brutal Rusher , Medium Turtler , etc.)
It made skirmishes much more interesting and replayable.

Oh, and the shadows are amazing. Just thought I'd point that out.

Great screenshot, as usual...
However, (in addition to the half buried soldiers) there was one thing that stood out:
Is it just me, or do the non-half-buried-but-still-dead soldiers look like they're floating? That could make it a little hard to tell who's dead and who's still fighting.

i love the screenshot! will units have individual health bars? (i.e. AOE)
-
Thats awesome... I can't wait!

how about: "'ello... uh... can i have your liver?" (Monty Python)
-
i see

I like it... I like it a lot... I heard that units will gain experience to increase their rank, so will elite elephants NOT "run amok"?
-
hmmm... a population cap based on the player's resources... therefore a hypothetical infinite amount of soldiers possible, but a limited amount of resources on the map... a subtle way of limiting the population... i like the idea
-
oh well, great article/pictures

i kinda like it that way... its more realistic... besides, things will be much easier to see when they are moving (i.e. videos and the actual game)
Name ideas for Alpha 4

I know it's still Greek, but Daedalus has to at least get a shout-out...
