  1. Punishing isn't the only way to show that something isn't appreciated.

What other methods are there? I'm not saying people should be put in jail or anything, but I'm hoping there's some kind of backlash whether it be finacial loss or simply a lot of angry phone calls.

No there won't. The producers will just have to make sure it won't happen. The shock value is kinda lost if it keeps going in the same direction. Punishing isn't the only way to show that something isn't appreciated.

Do you think that 30 years ago people imagined that we would dare show naked breasts on public television? I doubt they did.

Hey if you care about the crap on TV, DON'T WATCH IT!

I agree with you there, but I assumed that the superbowl, which is the most watched event all year, would be "safe" enough for all ages. I guess that's too much to ask for these days.

TV is just gonna get crazier and crazier when Americans get bored with what's on.

That's exactly my point, the line needs to be drawn somewhere or else we will reach the point of no return.

I'm not saying this was the worst thing that could happen or that I'm infuriated at Janet Jackson/MTV/CBS/whoever. A naked breast isn't that big of a deal, but the point is, if you start crossing that line, where's it going to stop?

  2. The issue isn't so much a naked breast (even though it was on the most widely watched show of the year), but that fact that the only reason it was done was for the shock value. I hope there are major repercussions for those involved so that the bar isn't raised next year. If this is acceptable, then why not fully topless dancers next year? Or full frontal nudity the year after that? If they keep pushing the limits we will eventually end up with an orgy during halftime.

  3. Here in Italy it's very common to find people going to church, or even marry in churches without being believers. It's kind of a social habit.

Unfortunately, this is much more common than it should be. I believe that many so called Christians are just going through the motions and aren't truly saved. Sure, it looks good when you attend church every week and do your good deeds, but that's not going to save you. It's very sad. :-(

  4. From a logical standpoint, it is possible to get to Heaven through good works. You just have to be perfect, which unfortunately, is impossible for mortal man. That's why we need the grace and forgiveness of Jesus as a pardon for our mistakes.

Yeah, I forgot to mention this also. Thanks for the reps guys. ^_^

  5. Can a woman be in the position of power & still take care of the children ? I think the answer is yes.

I'd argue that it's not possible. If anyone (male or female) are invested in a career, they will not have the time to devote their lives to raising their children. Instead the job will be passed on to hired help or a daycare center.

  6. I personally don't have a problem with women being in postions of power, however I would not marry someone like that. I would prefer to marry a woman who would want to take care of our children. Raising children is one of the most important and underrated jobs a person can undertake. Where else can one have such a profound effect on society?

I think it's safe to say that in general, women are better caretakers than men and society needs those types of people. Without them we would degenerate into an angry mob.

  7. Faith in Jesus Christ is all that's required to be saved. Good works should be a result of your salvation, not the cause.

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God-- 9 not because of works, lest any man should boast. - Eph 2:8-10

We ourselves, who are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners, 16 yet who know that a man is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ, and not by works of the law, because by works of the law shall no one be justified. - Gal 2:15-16

Now it is evident that no man is justified before God by the law; for "He who through faith is righteous shall live" - Gal 3:11

So that the law was our custodian until Christ came, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a custodian; 26 for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. - Gal 3:24-27

There are many more verses that I could quote from the book of Galations and I don't have the time to write them all.

Sorry I can't summerize this, but I found a quick overview Here.

You cannot just take verses and evaluate them without looking at the context or situation. For example, the bolded part of the following verses was quoted on the page you referenced:

And behold, one came up to him, saying, "Teacher, what good deed must I do, to have eternal life?" 17 And he said to him, "Why do you ask me about what is good? One there is who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments." 18 He said to him, "Which?" And Jesus said, "You shall not kill, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, 19 Honor your father and mother, and, You shall love your neighbor as yourself." 20 The young man said to him, "All these I have observed; what do I still lack?" 21 Jesus said to him, "If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." 22 When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful; for he had great possessions. - Mathew 19:16-22

Now, if you look at that one small section, "If you would enter life, keep the commandments", it definitely appears that you must abide by the law to get into heaven. However, if you read the entire section you will see that that is not the case.

I will paraphrase the section to give you an idea of why Jesus said that.

Man: What do I have to do to earn my way into heaven?

Jesus: You want to earn it? To earn it you must be perfect. ("keep the commandments". In the Jewish community, the standard of perfection was (is?) the ten commandments).

Man: I am perfect. What else do I need to do? (All these I have observed; what do I still lack?)

Jesus: If you're perfect, then give all your stuff to the poor and follow me.

The man left with sorrow because had a lot of stuff and he didn't want to give it up. Jesus knew that this man was not perfect and that his pride and possesions were getting in the way of a relationship with Him.

Wow, this turned out to be a long post. ^_^

  8. DeMorgan's Theorem:

    a) ~(p1 ^ p2 ^ ... ^ pN) = ~p1 v ~p2 v ... v ~pN
    b) ~(p1 v p2 v ... v pN) = ~p1 ^ ~p2 ^ ... ^ ~pN

    Proof by induction:

    a)

    PART 1:

    Base case: N = 2

    Truth table (simplified for space):

    p1 | p2 | ~(p1 ^ p2) | ~p1 v ~p2
    --------------------------------
    T  | T  |      F     |     F
    T  | F  |      T     |     T
    F  | T  |      T     |     T
    F  | F  |      T     |     T

    Therefore: ~(p1 ^ p2) = ~p1 v ~p2

    PART 2:

    Inductive Hypothesis: ~(p1 ^ p2 ^ ... ^ pN) = ~p1 v ~p2 v ... v ~pN

    Consider: ~[p1 ^ p2 ^ ... ^ pN ^ p(N+1)]

    let    A = p1 ^ p2 ^ ... ^ pN

    so,   ~A = ~p1 v ~p2 v ... v ~pN                           (by the inductive hypothesis)

    so,   ~[p1 ^ p2 ^ ... ^ pN ^ p(N+1)] = ~[A ^ p(N+1)]       (by substitution for A)

    and   ~[A ^ p(N+1)] = ~A v ~p(N+1)                         (by part 1)

    so,   ~[A ^ p(N+1)] = ~p1 v ~p2 v ... v ~pN v ~p(N+1)      (by substitution for ~A)

    so,   ~[p1 ^ p2 ^ ... ^ pN ^ p(N+1)] = ~p1 v ~p2 v ... v ~pN v ~p(N+1)

    QED. :P

Part B is basically the same, I just didn't want to write it all out.

  9. No matter how you try to justify it, abortion is the killing of an innocent child. Plain and simple. I don't understand how people can say it's a woman's right to kill her own child. Whenever a story is told about someone commiting infanticide the general outcry is one of disgust. And yet the only difference between infanticide and abortion is the age and location of the child. If a woman has the right to kill her unborn child, why shouldn't she be able to kill her infant? Or if you take it a step further, why shouldn't she be able to kill her 10-year-old child? Or her 20-year-old daughter? Or her 30-year-old son?

  10. Let's see if I can show the answer in a graphical way.

The POWs were lined up so that #3 could see #2 and #1, #2 could see #1 and #1 couldn't see anyone.

    3-> 2-> 1->

There were seven possible combinations of beenies:

    B   B   B   (a
    W   B   B   (b
    B   W   B   (c
    W   W   B   (d
    B   B   W   (e
    W   B   W   (f
    B   W   W   (g
    3-> 2-> 1->

The only way #3 would know for certain the color of his beenie was if both #2 and #1 were wearing white (g which would mean #3 was wearing black. But this wasn't that case, so #3 didn't say anything.

Since #3 stayed silent, #2 realized that #3 could see at least one black beenie. So according to #2 the possible combinations were:

    ?   B   W   (a
    ?   W   B   (b
    ?   B   B   (c
    3-> 2-> 1->

#2 could see that #1 was wearing a black beenie and realized that the beenie on his own head could still be either black or white, (b or (c, so he didn't say anything either.

Since #2 stayed silent, #1 realized that #2 didn't know if it was case (b or (c and in both of those cases #1 was wearing a black beenie.

10 points to Licensed Devil for figuring it out.
