I am not advocating anything... and please, I am against a flamewar. I am just saying that now its ''not'' a time for changing tools.... its time for changing ideas. Like we always be using a screwdriver, we should focus on buiding things, with what we traditionally use(in this perticular case, C++)...
-
Some people argue for a change.. For example we used asm, then switched to C, and then to C++. They argue for C# and D to be the next change. But according to me, game industry has stablized itself, that there is no need for switching.. ie we have reached a point of saturation. (they fail to understand that application programming languages are not equal to systems programming languages.)

Here, I am talking about all the civs in general... Like, If you are playing persian, you can boost productivity with drought donkeys, camels or horses... Same with the Carthagians and Romans... The rest simply have no or very little techs about it?? -

yeah elephants were at earliest used as heavy duty trucks, and cranes.... Lifting heavy masses, and in the end, boosted a level of peoductivity.... Is it feasable to have tech/feature like that in 0ad? -

hey.. Merchants could not use an elephant freely like that.. Merchants used cow carts, and thats proved thing.... -
what would be the roadmap of part two? I seldom hear about part 2, but I think that the most advance age of part two will be a start of dark age!! in europe...... All I want to say is that if not in part 1, part 2 should have the balance of the whole world in general.. The inclusion of mauryans is a great step forward, and I must congrujulate everyone involved...
-
The mauryan addition is excellent step forward... I saw the factions link on the main page of the 0AD website... There was no mention of mauryans, but there was a mention of germans, eastern romans, huns... If these are the future factions, then it would surely add content but no twist :-o Adding asian factions will add to twist... As mythos said waiting for the sweetest fruit is the best bet
-
At some point of time, we have to add the eastern half, as nobody will call an aoe style game, with only handfull of civ.... Maybe, we can complete the game with the handfull west, and then get into asia, with a revised edition next year.... 0ad has to go very far.... We are on alpha, then we get to beta, then we get to test and then release candidates, then final version... We have lots of time too.

@Shield Bearer The ancient medical text of ayurveda - chakra samhita(search wikipedia) was writern in mauryan period. It highlighted the medical properties of tulsi plant and how it was used.... I dont exactly know when the practice of planting it in the courtyard started, but I do know that it was being used in high quntities during the maurya period. Maybe, for the sake of conveniance, people started planting it in their homes, and therefore worshipped it because of its medical qualities... PS: shield bearer, I will take that as a complement, thouh I would be writing about me soon, I would like to tell that I am High School boy, and aim to become a game programmer... Will start to contribute to 0AD source code in future... -

Yes Chakraview was used till late in the medieval part, and was a common formation, unique for the others. Chakravhiew and its derivatives were adopted by the subcontinental faction also including the chinese. Porus also tried a chakravhiew but failed due to muddy terain, and the large time needed for formation. Actually mahabharatha was a blueprint of fighting styles meant to be adopted later. -

The sanskrit word for sword is khadag or asi... So the best word for swordsman should be 'khadagdhari' (the one who wields a sword) It is as accurate as I get.... -

yup, shield bearer... Brahmins can only fight when situation i trivial, somthing like- 1. No more healing aura is left 2. Health is very low 3. Death of a hero 4. Distruction of more than 2 buildings in single attack These are themselves small things. I am looking for a class called yoddha, appearing :bare chested and a dhoti, one or two handed short scimitar, low hit points, and very high attack rate. If possible, can be the substitute of kshatriya. Kshatria is not a unit but a clan which fights war as said earlier. -

@geek I was reffering to generic term... Kautilya was the one who taught baby chandragupta, how to fight.. And at some point of time, during the nanda period, acted as a point man. Getting of the topic a little bit, If there's any idea of unique formation in Indian faction I vote for Chakravhiew formation.... -

The mauryan army was the largest and arguably the most powerfull army in the ancient world... I would recommend another class of special units called yoddha. An armourless sword martial artist available in the last city age. He would have been weak with low hitpoints, but the attack points should be high. I would also add up to siege elephant, customized for siege only. I would also like to force the fact that Indian Brahmins could also fight, in trivial situations. -

Great mythos, I was expecting that.... I would also like you to ammend somethings, Ashoka the tyrant was actually a master horse cavalry and an accomplished yoddha. I would say that, just like the celtic frantics, indian factions too had unarmoured but accomplished sword martial artists called yoddha. Also the Brahmins coul fight too.. The dynasty which overthew the Mauryans was basically Brahmin. Also search for purshuram, dronacharya, etc -

hey did'nt see the older post? Thank for the remark..... -
well someday come to india, and see yourself, unity in diversity..... The most diverse are by culture is the subcontinent itself.. Comming to the ancient period, we have the western aryans, go further south, cross the river jhelum you will meet porus. The diversity starts from here.... The mauryans have varied cosmopoliton interests and empire as large as what alexander covered... In south we have cheras, cholas and pandyas. Try to beat their navy and say wow. Chinese are totally different in every aspect, used to fighting in marshy or plateu area. China can contain as many as three factions comparable to th korean, the japs of aoe 2. Come to south east asia, though not much difference is there, it is comparable to the aztecs and mayan differences.
