  1. Not so sure archers were becoming obsolete against armoured men. Look at the Battle of Agincourt. Thereafter, the French thought English longbows dangerous enough to cut off the index and middle finger of any longbowman captured, giving rise to the English 'V' hand gesture for " 'F' you."
  2. Never seen Brotherhood of the Wolf, but just by watching the trailer I am *guessing* that the hot chick one of the heroes is eyeing is one of the werewolves? Looks like there's plenty of nudity as well.
  3. Problem being is: What role do gun powder units fill that archers cannot? That's why I think the Renaissance is generally skipped.
  4. Make sure to Private Message your info to either me or Aeros.
  5. Thanks for filling in for me mate! You winners, private message me with your shipping information ASAP!
  6. Even a "Star Trek Armada" style mod would be cool.
  7. Amazing fire and 2 explosions at a rocket fuel plant. Apparently after the Challenger disaster the company that made the rocket fuel for shuttle missions had to stockpile the stuff. Well, during routine maintenance a welder's torch touched off a fire from an unknown propane leak and the rest is history. The 2nd explosion apparently registered 1 kilotonnes of energy, the size of a very small tactical nuke. The people of the nearby town (this was in 1988) thought the Soviets were attacking. Crazy stuff! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJVOUgCm5Jk
  8. A blonde calls her husband at work one day and asks him, "Can you help me when you get home?" "Sure," he replies. "What's the problem?" "Well, I started a really hard puzzle and I can't even find the edge pieces." "Look on the box," he said. "There's always a picture of what the puzzle is." "It's a big rooster," she said. The husband arrives home and tells his blonde wife, "Okay, put the corn flakes back in the box."
  9. Good stuff, Redmeth! EB and RTR are the best RTW mods available. I am currently running the RTR:Platinum Edition.
  10. "Boondock Saints" is great right up until the comic book ending in the courtroom. Very lame ending. My submission: V for Vendetta Children of Men Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom Serenity Aliens
  11. You'll see a lot of people that signed up months or years ago and then only lurked since that time. It's fine by me. That's one of the reasons we're holding the raffle: to rekindle some interest. Have no worry though, in the future we'll have rewards for those forum members with the most participation. Trust me.
  12. If you check the 0 A.D. site you'll see development is going full steam: http://wildfiregames.com/0ad/ Development of TLA is wholly dependent upon the completion of 0 A.D.
  13. Hey guys! I posted some photos of my costume on my Myspace and I thought it would be cool to start a thread here at WFG for people to post pics of their costume too! Here's mine:
  14. To be honest this is an editor shot. However, the units are really fighting. The editor (Atlas) has a "simulation" feature that allows the designer to set up battles and run the simulation and watch the men fight it out. One can pause, go slow or fast, and reset the action. In-game, units WILL fight in formations when tasked to.
  15. They are based in Europe. They should be able to ship to Slovakia.

About "Ancient Warfare" Magazine: It is a bi-monthly publication, originating from The Netherlands, EU. Most U.S. and Australian subscribers receive their copy of the magazine at the end of every other month. European subscribers receive theirs about a week sooner. The focus of the magazine is the ancient warfare of the western world (Rome, Greece, the Celts, et al). In the future some issues will have themes focusing on the near east and other areas of ancient combat. The articles are well-researched and better yet, very accessible and easy to read! The artwork by Johnny Shumate and others is top notch, with some of the best reconstruction artwork I have ever seen. View some quick snapshots of the magazine below:

  19. Aigis, m8. Any chance you could shrink that sig image 50% or so? Thnx m8.
  20. Cassador_Chris, currently the Sparabara in the screenshot have the figure 8 Persian "Gerron". Before release we'll have an actual Persian tower shield in their hands in one form or another.
  21. That's a negative. Either/Both of the actors with player color and/or the actors with transparency can also have visual data (the texturing). So, let's look at an actor file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no" ?> <actor version="1"> <castshadow/> <group> <variant frequency="1" name="Base"> <animations> <animation file="quadraped/horse_idle_a.psa" name="Idle" speed="100"/> <animation file="quadraped/horse_idle_a.psa" name="Idle" speed="100"/> <animation file="quadraped/horse_attack_a.psa" name="Idle" speed="100"/> <animation file="quadraped/horse_attack_b.psa" name="Idle" speed="100"/> <animation file="quadraped/horse_gallop.psa" name="Run" speed="8"/> <animation file="quadraped/horse_walk.psa" name="Walk" speed="18"/> <animation file="quadraped/horse_attack_a.psa" name="melee" speed="150"/> <animation file="quadraped/horse_attack_b.psa" name="melee" speed="150"/> </animations> <mesh>skeletal/horse.pmd</mesh> <props> <prop actor="units/romans/hero_marcellus_r.xml" attachpoint="rider"/> </props> </variant> </group> <group> <variant frequency="1" name="horse-texture"> <texture>skeletal/horse_rome_marcellus.dds</texture> </variant> </group> <material>player_trans.xml</material> </actor> At the end you see: <material>player_trans.xml</material> That means this particular actor shows player colors with the alpha map channel of <texture>skeletal/horse_rome_marcellus.dds</texture> that texture. Now, the prop: <props> <prop actor="units/romans/hero_marcellus_r.xml" attachpoint="rider"/> </props> Might use a material designation like <material>basic_trans.xml</material> that will use the alpha channel of the prop's texture to show true transparency. Now, since the base actor and the prop actors are two separate actors, we can then have 1 unit with both transparency and player color, both utilizing the alpha channels of their respective textures. Hope that made sense. This type of system is very versatile, meaning you can have prop after prop after prop attached to each other, each with different properties, combined into one unit, building, or other object.
