  1. I newbe and play with Romans.

Someone experts can give some advices?

    Ave fellow Roman

I suggest you look out for my next post about this very thing. I write "The Centurion" articles which I discuss Roman topics and strategy. My next article is called "The Roman Way - Strategy Construct of the Beginning of Empire"

    Ave

  2. Thanks niektb :)

As you know the name is still Rome because I haven't yet thought of an appropriate one. So far its just referred to as the "Rome Project". But a name will come naturally in time.

And yes, I used COM' recruitment descriptions that you wrote, as it's written well :)

  3. The Rome Project is officially recruiting anyone who has a passion for Rome and wishes to contribute to an ambitious undertaking.

The plans for the Rome Project will need quite a few modders to get things going and taking form.

    Researcher:

A game falls or stands with information. Without, it

is impossible to create a historically accurate game

like 0 A.D. aims to be. Therefore we need people

who like to dig in history and come up with

information, plans to get that information

implemented in the right way and finally provide

references for the artists around. As already said,

we like to get a large timespan so you will get

acquainted with all kinds of history and learn lots of

    it.

    3D artist:

In case of 3D artist we have two kinds of jobs:

    Animators:

Animations are needed to get a dynamic moving

game. Imagine a game with only static puppets

moving around! No one wants to play that! We need

therefore people who like to animate all kinds of

objects, including ships, animals and units.

    Modelers:

Beside animators we do need persons creating the

3D object itself, before it gets animated or textured

or something. Modelling a variety of objects you

need to follow the references provided by the

researchers (or get them yourselves if you like to do

so) and get it usable for the other team members.

Actually you provide a fundamental base for the

    game to get playable.

    Programmer:

Modding includes programming. Therefore we need

additional programmers capable of JS-scripting in

various aspects of the game. Think of programming

completely new gameplay features but also

    creating technologies, auras, modifying templates

and creating Random Map Scripts and possibly AI

scripting. It even is allowed to create your own glsl

    shaders if you like to!

    Scenario Designer:

Of course we like to feature some scenarios of our

own specifically created for our own projects. It is

also possible to create Random Maps in

    collaboration with the programmers.

    Playtester / Balancer:

To get a nice, playable game we need playtesters.

They are there to improve the game's playability

and eventually come up with ideas for gameplay

features in collaboration with the researchers. It is

also a possibility that it is needed to adjust some

stats yourselves. For this you'll need a basic

knowledge of XML (which is very easy to learn I can

    tell you)

    2D artist:

2D artists can choose between various assignments

    in the following areas:

    Conceptual artist:

Being a conceptual artist you'll pick up references

and create concepts for it to be used by the 3D

modelers. It is also allowed to search for references

yourselves or collaborate with researchers in doing

    so.

    2D designer:

2D designers take care of the UI. Think of designing

new buttons, drawing wallpapers and everything

you like to do to improve the GUI and create a lot of

    other art.

If anyone is interested, please do not hesitate to PM me and discuss the fundamentals of the project :)

  4. As thamlett suggested, an AMD chip on either a Sapphire board (Sapphire being my personal favourite) or gigabyte.

Rule of thumb with an AMD is to use an AMD GPU as well. Nvidia seems to be sluggish on AMD systems from personal experience. So its birds of a feather flock together in this regard.

Then you inevitably can go the Pentium 4 rout as Stan mentioned, but I don't see the logic in that, it will be for 0 A.D. and will not handle other games should you wish to play them. So AMD...

Try to avoid the bulldozer chips, and get a Phenom black edition. The bulldozers tend to lag running various GPUs, although there's probably an explanation for it, there isn't much difference than an Phenom.

And why you should get an AMD, is because intel is @#$%, out of most budgets, and quality sucks :)

  5. All slaves and prisoners are really for 3 things in this mod.

The first would be for labor and resource gathering.

The second auxiliary front line soldiers

The third is for the Coliseum and circus.

But will it be realistic if slaves and captured peoples from a faction still effect their pop cap, invariably forcing them to go free their people?

Or it wouldn't matter if they get killed in the theaters.

If this be the case, we would need a special building, like a temporary mini prison in which to store them.

The faction needs to be able to free their people somehow, either by line of sight, or when none of your units are present in their line of sight, they instantly converted back.

  6. We get CoM signatures? All of us? Apprentice or not?

Yes, everyone is meant to get one. And being an apprentice, you are still a councilor.

    Thank you trip.

When you say become an apprentice, are the available fields to become an apprentice in the subsets of Art listed in that topic (for example, Modelling or animation) or are they the entire topic listed there?

What am I to do to request the COM signature?

    Merfy

That is right. However, that thread is art specific, dealing with those subsets. Should you opt for a different field and a sig, just submit what you'd like to take on, and Stan will take care of the rest, and issue your signatures.

  7. Welcome to the Council. AoK folks are always welcome, we generally do share a lot in common.

    Hello there!

I'm Merfy, and I too saw your post on AoKH. I'm inexperienced for now, but interested in joining the team. I intend to become some sort of cinematic animator and general all rounder in games design and am interested in whatever you can offer me. I can, despite my inexperience, learn quickly (a valuable gift indeed).

    Here's the original on AoKH:

    Hello Wildfire!

I'm MerfAvenger (more commonly Merfy), another part of the budding development team Tanksy mentioned. As of yet I have no specialist skillset, however I pick up skills quickly and am interested in all aspects of game development. My communication skills are noteworthy, and I feel they would be helpful at some stage of development. Although I have little experience in actual game development at the moment I do intend to pursue it as a career, with the desire to study Games Design at Abertay University, Dundee. Whilst I want to aim my career in the direction of cinematics and animation, I am also imaginative and enjoy creating storylines and ideas - with researching them being part of the thrill of creating a setting and universe. Thus I feel I would be of help to your team as a member of your research staff. History has always interested me and I would put in vast amounts of effort into finding every intricate detail on any subject.Thank you for reading, any more information will happily be disclosed if you let me know!Merfy

    Thanks guys.

    Merfy out.

In regards to no defined skill set, you may submit a request to become an apprentice, where we will teach you a skill.

    There's many to choose from.

All requests are to be submitted to Stan (Artist, and trainer of COM) @

    http://www.wildfiregames.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=18514#entry289136

Our forum signatures are due, and are a requirement to keep general order on the forum. An official COM signature will be presented to you on request.

    Regards

  8. I am also work on a few mods, one i will be doing alone due to just custom technology from my books

the other will be working with hepha. and verida. on fantasy based mods.

but for a discription of my abilities

I used to Mod Skyrim and oblivion before i had to wipe my hardrives.

I know c# and VB programming languages

I am a amature book writer

    I learn quickly

I have ALOT of free time

    A fellow Skyrim lover :D

I kept wondering if we need a section for fan art and writings too. I also used to write a lot of Skyrim stuff ;)

We'll include you in the Council's programmers group.

So the Council hereby officially recognizes MuteLovestone

  9. well i was planning on at least

    3 versions

    1) Mythology(1 faction for each mythology type)

    2) Pure Magic

    3) Horror fantasy

    difference between zombies and skeletons

    1) zombies have no ability to use weapons

    2) skeletons have the knowledge of the past ie better with weapons

    3) zombies have group mentality

    4) zombies have the smell of rotting flesh

as far as modding, i have a great knowledge of c# and visual basics

what i can do is when i get home i can write up a few plans of what i have then i will attach it when im done with it

and like you suggested to veridagorin i am already in middle of store and after while will be making a whole mod based on story

but as 0ad is already getting skeletons, (at least they look more like skeletons then zombies) we will not really need to add

    Cool :)

We'll be happy to put you in our programming team (y)

Also, would you know of others that will would like to assist you in this mod? Like any artists, 2D-3D, modelers that sort of thing? We'll be happy to include them in as well.

  10. We could later make the units lean on their spear, or like the stereotype for a soldier being very disciplined and not moving at all. .. so not extra animaiton work required.

I'm a firm believer the gold is shiny enough, the shadows around the brest could be overstated to achieve a better 3D look.

We could perhaps lighten the shadows around the stomach muscles and I think that is what Stan already did. (in his rightmost character, see above in Stan's post)

More shiny would e.g. for the helmet mean it became totally white:

    attachicon.gifsamnite-mythos_ruler_or_stan.png

Would be helpful for the dev team's normals issue as white than white is impossible and thus the normals issue on resizing entities no longer existed. ;)

So I think we have three Roman units already. Should we have a silver cuirass too? Roman generals might have worn a silver one and not a bronze one.

Nice, I like the stance bit. That is what we need.

Where did that example picture come from?

  11. @stanislas69

Could you texture a feather holder in gold on the crest? Or would rather need one?

    @Strannik

As stanislas69 mentioned, the crest needs to more rounded on top, and the feather holder needs to come back.

The rest of the helmet is fine... Although probably a few more pollies in the front to round off forehead.

  13. @MuteLovestone

Hi and welcome to the most active section on the forum, where it's all happening :)

Firstly, I like your idea of a fantasy mod, though I like a normal RTS rdealing with antiquity, there are times I need my heroes of might & magic fix lol ;)

    Couple questions;

What type of fantasy are you envisioning? There many flavours and types.

wizards / dragons / battle mages

    Necromantic armies VS Mages

    Tooth ferries VS Toothless toddlers

    There's lots.

Also do you have any personal modding skills? We could submit recruitment ads specially for this effort.

The repository can be called repository, can't it?

    lmao
