Im the new one here and im not sure what's finished here and what can i take.I read all the animals that should be done, and im not sure what can i play with, can i make a hippo? If nobody is working on them i would like to make those fat fat fat beasts! Making the actual mesh is usually the first step. After that, it needs to be textured and animated. Apart from that, before you work on something, it's best to search through the forums first. Someone might have started but not finished the work. And also open the map editor and try to see if the animals are present. It's not always finished when they are present.
