The Crooked Philosopher
I've been playing the Macedonians for several weeks ago and i discover that my Hypaspists transform themselves into Argyraspides when they reach a certain level of experience. Is it historically accurate or a means to balance the game? Edited January 7, 2013 by The Crooked Philosopher
Zeta1127
Its a way of having multiple units of the same type without actually giving a civilization more than one unit of the same type. For example, Hastatus (Roman Swordsman) eventually get promoted to Princips.

The Crooked Philosopher
As far as i know they should armed like Macedonian Phalanxs instead of hoplite.
Mythos_Ruler
As far as i know they should armed like Macedonian Phalanxs instead of hoplite. In pitched battle, it was likely (but not proven) that they were armed as a phalangite. In all other circumstances, they'd be armed as a hoplite. This is in the time of Alexander.Later, in the Seleucid dynasty, the "Silver Shields" were a corps of 5000 phalangites (along with the 10,000 'Bronze Shields' and 5000-member 'Gold Shields' corps).
