    here additional work.

    Hey folks,

I know I'm a little late to the party, but I'm glad you liked this design. Though I think I could do better work now (this is about 4-5 years old now). I used to work with Aviv on some Wildfire / 0 A.D. projects (including some cursors and website design) back then and this was my final piece.

    Best,

  2. I remember about 6 years ago our forum blew up over such discussions. lol So, yeah, I am more than willing to drop the subject entirely. I was reluctant to chime in, but jumped head first into it anyway. I guess that's my nature. I take issue with mfmachado post's, but I will be dropping the subject at any rate. ;)

Anything involving religion always sparks debate. I do not mind a civil debate at all, so if you wish to PM me with a rebuttal I would be very interested in reading it. :]

  3. I guess I agree with that. Edited my post above to get rid of fuel for any potential future argument in this thread. ;)

Ah, well, the point is not to 'bash' but to point out the absurdity in the ideas. That last pic was a little bashful though, so I apologize for that.

Whether you agree with them or not. Find them absurd, or absurd not to agree with them, it is better to deal less harshly with these matters. People have been brought up and find certain meaning in the reasons they live their lives.

To many religion acts as a moral compass and a purpose for living on this earth (a meaning in itself if you would), without it I am almost certain the world would be a much more violent place (yes, even more so than all the religious wars we have today).

Now to the civil agnostic or atheist this idea... this certainty I have may sound fallible, but if you listen to the devout among us it is easy to see many would fall apart without religion. Whether they take comfort in death because they have some place to go after they pass, or they feel part of a larger community because they all share one unified idea, or they feel obliged to do "good" because someone or something is watching them, or countless other reasons... religion has a purpose in the human mind. It has helped us get along, build societies, answer the unknown, and take comfort in our temporary place here on earth.

I cannot consider that absurd, and in my humble opinion, I don't think anyone else should either.

  4. Honestly, I was a little put off and surprised at first - but really, what does it matter? I can completely see why there's a change in direction, and frankly, I rather like it. If more fans were in charge of RE, we'd just get a complete remake of AOE2 with with more concentration on nostalgia than innovation. RE have announced, after all, that the RTS gameplay is still there, as is PvP. I think the bold vision behind this project is pretty admirable. The backlash its getting is unfortunately reminiscent of the Diablo 3 fiasco - or, heaven forbid, Sonic fans wanting Sonic 4 to be completely identical to the 16-bit games.

I'm quite confident that this will turn out to be a lot of fun, and be a lot more than just building some elaborate polis. I'd like to mention that I find Facebook/social networking games completely abhorrent and still like my realistic hoplites too... but hey, this works for me. Of course, I don't like how ahistorical it all is (the hypaspitai stuff made me cringe when I first saw it) ... but it's not at all surprising. Besides, we still have 0 A.D. for that. And if it gets more people into history, like the original AOE did for me, then it's done its job.

    Can't agree with you more.

AND LOOK AT THAT SEXY UI!

  5. Uhm..My names Aaron,i live in Estonia...Dont know anything about programming,only a little bit of 3d modeling,Downloaded 0 A.D 2 hours ago and well...ITS AWESOME!!!(i had to get that out,sorry)

You guys are doing a fabulous job, keep doing it (y)

(sorry if theres bad english, not my native language)

Hey Aaron, glad you like the game! Welcome to the forums. Feel free to stick around and enjoy! :]

  6. You could tailor the breeding/egg gathering towards a "boom" style gameplay for those of us who like to build strong economies before attacking.

For instance, you could task one person to a corral to take care of breeding, and have food trickle in from eggs, milk, cheese, etc. Then over time, as breeding methods get better, the food trickle would increase.

This would reward people for starting early with breeding. Kind of like an investment for later in the game.

Yeah I can agree with the corral. I don't hav q problem with any of it to be honest as long as long as breeding is a button and not micromanagement.

  7. Hmm, what time? You find the units on the map, you send them to the corral (if you have it built already, otherwise you have to build it of course, but if you'd remove building I'd say there'd be too little economy in the game :) ), you collect the benefit. A little time, sure, but not too much compared to the benefit it gives. I wouldn't say AoK was all about economy just because there were a few relics you could pick up and send home to your monastery :)

Oh no, I'm not saying that AoK was all about economy at all, what I mean is that the way I'm seeing breeding I don't see much of a point and more of a hinderance. I guess one way to do it would be to have breeding as options to upgrade your horses etc. But I am not sure if that was what you are looking for from it.

I don't know how you play RTS, but I play RTS where I will find a pattern to the quickest way to pour out strong units to overwhelm the enemy before they can say "Upgrading to 3rd Age".

I'm not saying everyone will play like that, but unless the coral ends up playing a core mechanic in the upgrade of offense, defense, or stronger faster economy, I don't understand why you would have that option available.

Look at it this way, every item in AoE was a core item that could be used for the greater good of your development and eventual conquering of everyone else. Even the relics, which played a huge roll in certain kinds of games.

  8. Maybe you could only hear them when your zoomed in close to the ship? The farther away you are the softer the sound would be.
What would help that is if the song didn't start over every time they click to a new location as long as they are still moving.

I agree with you on both fronts. Now, who's singing for us?

  9. My two cents: I think harvesting eggs would be something that would become an unnecessary task. Experienced players would probably ignore it and work on only the most efficient ways to build and attack their opponents; while newer players would be busy trying to harvest eggs while the other team rushes them.

The only way I could see this would be in place of a farm. Build a coop or something and chickens will be there. send villagers back and forth to harvest from it. upgrade to larger and larger coop or something if you want to use upgrades.

    Otherwise, stick with slaughter, IMHO.

  10. perhaps that could be implemented as an aknowledgement sound? like when you tell a ship to go somewhere, it responds with a typical rowing song in that native language.

Just adding my two cents: Would have to be a short loop wouldn't it? Like... under a second? Like just saying "HEAVE!" or something. And if we do something like that it should have an option to mute the sound on move orders. Some people click the move option 50 billion times in a minute. The loop could get annoying (and if it's long could get cut off).

  11. I was actually defending underarm in that post smile.gif

I know, I was just driving my point home.

Hmm, i should get involved somehow =p

If you want to get involved punch in an application and show us what you can do! :)

Just think whats gonna happen if a Macedonian Hoplite gets introduced to the game, they gonna argue about how the close combat looks with those xD

Why? Don't they use swords in close range?

  12. You get a grip, but you lose the same control. Underarm does use more muscle in the thrust, part of which makes it a more powerful attack, but in the stance it is less tiresome.

Unless, that is, you're going to hold it underarm until you need to attack then everyone at once puts the back end behind them and swings the business end forward. Yep... that sounds... awkward.

  13. You're very right there. But go grab a 6 foot stick (a broom handle would do) and try to strike something both underarm and overarm. Overarm is awkward and the most power delivered by it would be to throw it a distance.

It's not that I'm an expert or anything. It's the practicality of it.

Also, look at it this way. A pike is possibly the most powerful against calvary units. A horse is coming at you. Are you going to thrust up into the horse or thrust down? Which will strike harder? Which will give you more leverage with the newly found animal atop your pole?

  14. When you have people on top of eachother what you are talking about will happen, with both under and overarm. If people pull too far back, they will cut the person in front. I did choose to use the 300 one as an example. But check out the History channel videos on youtube about Phalanx, it is an underarm attack. Overarm only makes sense for throwing. The human body has so little control over a weapon that is thrusted overarm (compared to underarm).
