  1. lol, glad to have left some sort of mark then? (y)

I am sorry to go, I like the idea behind the project, freeware from hobbiests, but the upfront idea is what I forced myself to overlook. I don't like history much and yet I was to devote my time to a historical RTS? Sounds kinda like a...stupid thing to do, eh?

I hope to see this project completed sometime in the future.

    Farewell good people.

  2. Well, this sucks guys.

Looking at my life, I've realized that I'm into this project for the wrong reasons, and I'm not enjoying myself because it doesn't strike my interest like most games do. I've found myself making a new project from my 2D engine.

I also can't devote myself to any project, because I realized there are some other things that are more important, first and foremost, my girlfriend.

I'm sorry to have jumped into this just to turn around and back out a week later, but these have been hectic times for me. I'm truly sorry that I did this, but I wish you guys the best of luck with the project and I can't wait to see the finished product.

  3. Yah, that or the bash shell doesnt know where to find the ls command, meaning its not configured correctly...I'm not sure how to configure it, but ill be someone else on this forum does, if that's even the problem.

    Good Luck

  4. Ah, I think Ykkrosh may have hit on something there. This computer only has 512 MB of RAM and I haven't noticed my laptop(2GB RAM) ever have a problem like that.

Perhaps I made a wrong assumption thinking it was the UI causing this issue, my bad =)

I also run Linux on another laptop, so I know that cross-platform is VERY important, which is why I suggested using Windows controls in Windows, and whatever else is standard in other OSs. I know its a pain to program, because I've done it before, but it can be done and it allows the UI to be controlled at a lower level than skins are usually dealt with. But, if the UI library they used wasn't the culprit of the minimization issues, then I'm glad they do support skins, because most people like pretty desktops =D

  5. I haven't tried Opera, but I am currently using Mozilla Firefox and I must say that the Mozilla developers need to be more concerned with browser speed than making it look pretty. If you leave Mozilla minimized for a few hours while your doing other things, and then you come back and try to pull Mozilla back up, it takes a few seconds for it to respond.

I like it over Internet Explorer in every other aspect, but since I leave this computer online pretty much 24/7, it gets really annoying to come back to a slow browser that tends to require a restart just to function quickly again.

If they didn't have their own custom UI that doesnt use windows controls, it would be much faster. I know that would make the cross-platform more difficult, but custom skins are not usually everyone's primary concern...the software needs to perform its job well BEFORE adding such features.

Perhaps offer a non-skinned UI? For those that are more concerned with their systems performance than the visual factors.

  6. There could be other issues besides spyware causing these popups. I used to use Internet Explorer, which allowed for a toolbar to be installed that caused popups. Ad Aware didn't detect it as an issue, and even after removing the toolbar, the popups still kept coming. The only true answer to this is to run another browser, which is exactly what I do now and always will in the future.

Firefox is everyone's suggested IE replacement, it is what I use: http://www.getfirefox.com

  7. I've had the same thing happen as fyhuang. The 2 hard drives that I had in my computer were running waaay too slow, and all the sudden, they were dead and all my files were locked on a non-spinning hard drive. I never got them off of there, even though I know there are ways to do this, they are just too much of a pain to do. I'd hurry up and diagnose the problem, because no one wants to lose all of their files.

  8. I've become pretty good at choosing specs for other people's computers...and helping with hardware type questions in general. Here's a general suggestion list for your specific needs with guestimate price:

Case ($30-50) - ATX Tower with a 400W Power Supply

    Motherboard ($60-70)- Asus A7V8X-X or Asus A7V400-MX

Hard Drive ($60-100) - An 80-120 GB 7200 RPM (It can be dual partitioned into 2 40 GB drives for Linux and Windows) (No Generic Brand...Any name brand works: Seagate, Hitachi, Samsung, etc.)

Floppy Drive ($10) - Anything at all...Even non-name brand should work fine

    DVD-RW Drive ($40-70) - Samsung or Sony 16X DVD±R/RW

    RAM ($100-120) - 2 512 MB DDR333 or DDR400(May be called PC2700 or PC3200 instead of DDR333 or DDR400)

    CPU ($90-110) - AMD Sempron 2800+ or 3100+

    Graphics Card ($80-$100) - GeForce FX5500XT 128MB or 256MB

    Also:

    Network Card ($10-20) - 10/100 NIC Card...Any brand

    Sound Card($30-40) - Sound Blaster Live 5.1 or 7.1

Total Cost, Rougly: $650 plus keyboard, mouse, and monitor

That should take care of you and have your computer running smoothly even with some more modern games. Your 3D Art programs will also be able to take advantage of the extra RAM available on the Graphics card, so you might want to opt for the 256 MB version of the GeForceFX 5500XT.

  9. Hey guys. I'm the new C++ Programmer here at WFG. Haven't been an active member of the forums, even though I had heard about the game a year ago. I started working on my own project because I didn't think WFG was taking on new members...apparently I was wrong.

My other project(almost completed) is available until sometime in June/July at Xiero Games. There's not much to the currently available version, but as soon as I get a couple of hours to finish up the Tutorials for the new version, it'll be available.

My presence will most definitely be felt within this community, because I'm a team player and I enjoy socializing with fellow nerdlings whenever possible.

I would write more here, but I need sleep and my bio is available on WFG's site here.
