my suggestions are 1) don't just send an animal on trading, a trader should be there. (i.e: a man on a horseback - turns into a horse cart when upgraded or a man going with a donkey brings 2 donkeys when upgraded.) 2)the people should be able to swim. (a one type of unit which can swim is also gud.)
