  1. I voted Christian.

I'm actually surprised at the amount of claims here that the Bible is false and contradictory. As far as I know it's never been proven false.

The chances that this being would fulfill all the Judeo-Christian descriptions - omniscience, omnipotence, etc. - are especially slim. The chances that the Biblical story is true from A to Z, including the higher power's intervention in human affairs and all, is so astronomically slim it's negligible.

The chances of humans evolving from slime are also astronomically slim ;) (I'm not saying that you are touting evolution Jeru, I'm just giving an analogy)

  2. The Athlon-FX looks pretty good, but it would be best not to buy that chip for a while. Because:

    1. It's a good idea to let new tech "settle" after the initial release. That way, issues can be worked out, new firmware can be released, etc, etc.

    2. AMD will be releasing a new version of the Athlon-FX very soon (a few months I believe), which is not compatible with the current Athlon-FX. :( If you get one now, you will be stuck with no upgrade options. ;)

Both the Athlon-64 and the Athlon-FX look pretty good, time will tell if anyone else thinks they look pretty good. :(

  3. I haven't read all of the books (just bits and pieces), so please go easy on me ;)

Here's my question: I know that Tolkien explicitly stated that "magic" was not used in his books. If so, then why do the "wizards" have power? I.E. in the first book, Gandalf tries to cast a "shutting spell" on a door in Moria. "casting spells" seems much like "magic" to me

    Just curious..

  4. Actually, the newer AMD chips (Athlon XP) are much better at heat management, and still beat P4's on some things. (not everything)

It's really up to the budget. (large budget = P4/small budget = AMD)

  5. I have two more things to add here:

    1. An "advanced GUI"-toggle button is a must (aka. AoK). That way, beginners don't get overwhelmed by the buttons, tabs, etc, while the experts can get everything.

    2. Maybe, just maybe, there could be a way to customize your GUI, sort of what Icy_Tripod is describing. It could be under Settings (or Options) on the main menu. If you go to the "Customize GUI" setting (or whatever it's called), you can drag around parts of the GUI, toggle them off/on, etc.

Just got another idea :) you could save custom GUI layouts and map them to a hotkey, so you can switch in-game. That way, you can mimic the features in AoM (full-screen minimap, full-screen game window, etc), by just creating them and mapping them to a hotkey, instead of them being hard-coded into the game.

    That's all for now... :)

  6. I'm not sure, I haven't personally used Prime95 before. Did you select "Torture Test"? If so, it should be good, it takes a while.

Actually, now that I think of it, it might just keep going until you tell it to stop. I'm not quite sure :) (sorry!)

  7. Here's an awesome program that I cannot live without now: WinKey

You can put the Windows key (between Ctrl and Alt as DA said) to use.. I have Win + I to open a new Internet Explorer window, Win + 1/2/3 to open up my hard drives/CD drives, etc.

    Great time-saver!! :P:)

Edit: BTW, it makes you look "leet" too.. ;):P just kidding

  8. I've been surprised at how much performance my lowly AIW Radeon 32MB card has given me. I believe it's based on the Radeon 7200 core... ancient ;) But, I get decent framerates in games.

Two things that gave me even more performance were: upgrading to Windows XP (go figure, guess the drivers are better), and keeping somewhat up-to-date with ATI's driver suite.

I get about 12-40 FPS in America's Army (average 20 FPS). Not awesome, but I'm not going to buy a new graphics card anytime soon :)

    I don't game a whole lot either..

  9. Yep, it's starting to sound like a faulty memory chip. Have you run a torture test on the computer (i.e. Prime95, etc)? Does it get through fine?

If it doesn't get through a torture test you should definetly get some replacement parts.

  10. I'd tend to disagree, Fire Giant. P4's get very hot, especially the higher speed ones.

AMD chips spank Intel chips on a lot of things.. even with an extra 1GHz helping Intel.

To be fair, yes, there are a few things Intel wins at, particularly things involving SSE2 instructions. But, for the most part, AMD wins :)

Murchad: You might actually want to wait on the system for a bit. A lot of new technology is coming out/stabilizing in the next year or so (PCI-X, AMD64, etc, etc). What you should get really depends on what you want.

    (waiting eagerly for your specs..)

  11. I believe the S3 is an integrated graphics adapter. If at all possible, GET AN AGP GRAPHICS CARD! PCI graphics cards are ancient, slow, and expensive.

Quacker: I have the AIW Radeon... not a very bad card. :)

    Wijit: Nice ;):P
