The problem is not the distro, is the forgotten PPA. Xtradeb have 'fixed' this. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xtradeb/play (Ubuntu 20.04; Ubuntu 20.10; Mint 20.1) The flatpak in the software manager under mint is up to date.
