  1. Just wondering if the Cataphractoi are making an appearance for the Persians, and what weapon style they will wield. I always saw the cataphractoi in their 'Parthian' and 'Sassian' guises, but a few years ago I came across information about the first 'cataphractoi', arguably the very first armored horsemen in the world. (I do understand that cataphractoi is a western term used to lable heavily armored eastern cavalry, or just heavily armored cavalry, for that matter, but the term seemed appropriate) Without stirrups or pommel sadles, though, their effectiveness was pretty limited to ranged weapons. The picture of one that I saw wielded javelins, which I found to be odd and unique, since many cavalry units of the latter ages wielded lances and bows. anyway, heres the pic. so, if they are present, what will the nature be of these javalin-throwing heavy cavalry? Will they be like heavy versions of the Numidian cavalry we've been seeing, or will they be more like a heavy melee cavalry?
  2. That's what I saw. Of course they could always change plans, and it'll be tough to out do Company of Heroes, but I think they'll probably try at some point. And, I know there is a lot of clatter for AOE I, AOK, and AOM, but since when has Esemble Studios ever listened to fans anyway?
  3. Yeah, but by the Dark Ages/Medieval Ages, the Celts were already pretty much a spent force. AOK Celts are really the Britanni, Picts, Irish, and other celtic groups whose culture survived on the British Isles and NW France. Not that I didn't appreciate their appearance, but I really did miss out on punishing those invading roman legions with a more classic celtic force. One can only have so much fun kicking British arses outta the Scottish highlands
  4. stronghold crusader was a fun game. First game I played where Horse Archers could really pull of what they were meant to do, and first game where besieging a castle was actually realistic and fun. Actually, it was the first game where you could actually BESIEGE a castle at all. Yeah, though, walking on walls. Always wanted that in AOEI, II, III... Not a help any that walls will be obsolete by AOEIV...
  5. CoH is really realistic. Excellent graphics, excellent sound, fully destructible environment, realistic and strategic combat, etc. etc. Only bad thing about the game was the lack of diversity. You could play as the Germans or the Americans. (or in the expansion, the Germans and the British). It would have been nice to have played with the Japanese and Russians, and it would have been nice to have a greater diversity of landscapes.
  6. This was a tough call. I'm going with the Celts first though. You don't know how much I missed the Celts from AOEI. It's as if they forgot a whole chapter of human history. But definitely the Carthaginians second. I have my reasons.
  7. Hungarian is likely to have some Celtic in the bloodline. Maybe tiny bits of Roman and Greek as well. Portuguese would have Celtic and Iberian, with a little Roman and perhaps some Carthaginian.
  8. haha. lol Mythos. Thanks for the pick. Brings tears to my eyes. *sniff*
  9. I've never understood the need for slaves in an RTS game. Even for realism reasons. The main reason being you've already got plenty of slaves, villagers and soldiers, who do their work endlessly and your bidding at every whim, and they don't get wages, vacation time, weekends, or membership in workers unions. I think thats as close as slavery as you can get. So adding slavery to the game would only 'make it more accurate', although you'll also have to put up with independent thinkers who realize that they actually don't have to do what you tell them to, if realism is your goal. One thing's for sure, the day that RTS games get striking workers is the day that RTS games turn into City Builder games(which are good games, by the way). As always,
  10. As far as I've seen, not much has been said about the weather as of late. How are you guys progressing on this area of development. As I remember, I haven't seen weather in any of the screenshots of late. Has this reached a wall in development? Just curious, as always.
  11. I agree with you guys. I support ruins, maybe not for building/resource purposes but definately for 'style'. Of course, I also support dead bodies staying around for a while, just so I can watch them pile up in pitched battles. A realistic idea would be just siege (and perhaps, perhaps melee, as long as they err...throw touches...like in AOE III. Come to think of it, throwing torches is really really dangerous! Why don't they just go up to the building and light it? And, lol, I take down castles with longbowmen in AOE II. As far as realism goes, they'ed have a better chance at destroying a castle if they all just went up and started beating their heads against it.
  12. Okay, while looking up a replacement for the tiger shield, I found that lots of animals used to inhabit North Africa along with the Numidians and North African Elephants. So, here are some that you could integrate into a African biome. Most of these are now very endangered or extinct. But all lived in north africa. Barbary Lion, Barbary sheep, Scimitar Onyx, Atlas Bear (the only bear native to Africa, last one seen in 1800s), Bubal Hartebeest, North African Auroch, and the Algerian Wild @#$%. Only problem is, most of these guys are extinct, so you might have trouble designing them. Anyway, probably too late for the game, but it would make a nice mod!
  13. (To an ally) Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings. You tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is 'never try'. If it ain't broke, we'll break it. Your mama is so fat, when she sings, its over. There are worse things in life than death. Have you ever spent an evening with an insurance salesman? Wear short sleeves! Support your right to bare arms! lol
  14. Where are the Sparabara? I see the Anusiya, and I'm guessing the cavalry units are Median Asabari. But my source shows Sparabara as having large pavice-like shields and spears. I don't see any units fiting that description, so could you point which ones are sparabara?
  15. I see that there are separate woman units in the game. Are they economic-only "Super" units, or just economic only units? Or neither? Also, I've been looking at the building concepts as of late, and it seems to me that the Persian-Greek-Roman buildings are generally larger than Celtic-Iberian buildings. If this is true, can smaller buildings be an advantage to the celts and iberians? In any case, I would find such a setting very interesting to play. It would give the celts and Iberians advantages in heavily wooden maps or maps with lots of shallows.
  16. Hello Mythos, everyone, how's it going? I've been watching for awhile now, but with the game well on it's way to completion (maybe in a year and a half or so?), I thought it would be good sense to join the forums here. Can't wait till 0AD is finished! Vae Victus Christopher
