  1. Well it's publically known that the US have been and still are involving themselves into Latin-American countries by middle hands financed by some of their many intelligence services. The thought of that the US somehow fear a stable Latin-America has crossed my mind. I mean there are several examples of the Nicaragua-Contras affair and the overthrow of Allende in Chile. I fail to understand the logic in a supposedly democratic government trying to de-stabilize other democratic governments?

Well that's my humble opinion as usual :)

  2. Very interesting indeed. Well this was news to me I has to admit, the newscoverage of the incident here in Sweden was very thin and shorthanded and to be honest I did not spend so much time thinking about it since tragically military coups and such have been and are as we saw a very present and common thing in the south-american politics.

The common problem in these regions are that they are former colonies and therefore have a very limited and (in most cases old) industrial base, which creates difficulties when it comes to modernizing the society and improve the situation for the poor and lower classes in these socities. In addition is it not uncommon that the very few industries that do exist in these areas are owned and run by the wealthier classes in the society and these classes are often closely connected to the military by bribes and such.

I personally consider the large influence that the military (this influence can be traced back to the often violent wars for indepence in the region) has in many south-american countries one of the largest threats against establishing working democracies in this region. And in this case when mr Chavez had managed to get media against him also one could say that he was and still are facing some serious problems. However how bad Chavez ran/runs his country, it can never and will never be a legal excuse for removing him out of power by force since he is democratically elected to his position (unless he turns his presidentship into a dictatorship and refuses to leave his power).

As one once said: "Climbing up and seize the power is no game. The game starts when it comes to keep the power"

  3. The man is playing with living crocodiles which is enough proof for me that he is crazy! :brow:

    Well to the point.

I am of the opinion of that it was very foolish to expose the baby to the crocodile in a such way even with as much security around him, however I respect the fact that Steve wants to adjust the baby to the life and all the animals that probably will be around him during his youth. And I think we all are aware of that most medias are doing everything to earn as much $$$ as possible which can result in very weird angles of cameras and such in order to maximize the amount of viewers/readers for the paper/show they work for. So to sum it all up I'd say that I respect Steve for what he did even if I dislike it but I consider him to be very naive to the press if he thought he could do such a thing in front of the media without expecting a warcry from different organisations and such.

  4. I agree on that democracy is the at this very moment most suitable way of governing a country. However I think that it is not the ultimate way though. Because my personal opinion is that everyone should be allowed to speak freely as long as it does not harm another human physically. That is my definition of free speech and I am not familiar enough with the fundaments of democracy to say if this is guaranteed in the theory of democracy. However even if it exists in the theoretical democracy it won't guarantee that it is being used in practical democracy. In a society there are many different wills that wants to enforce their will which gains their own purposes.

As far as I can see there are two kinds of democracy: direct democracy; (Switzerland for example) everyone in the country gets to vote about just about everything concerning the governing of the country (to a certain extent of course or else the government would be useless) and there is: indirect democracy; (Sweden, Norway, Denmark and so on) Where you votes for a party which forms a cabinet to decide for you and it is very uncommon that the people themselves actually have any say in anything but extraordinary things such as whetever the country should enter the European Union or such.

The point in all this is that from my view is Switzerland the country whose government is run the true democratic way; the way the majority rule that is the way of the people and I believe that this is the way which guarantees that the ruling of the government is the actual will of the people. Because when you elect people to rule for you, they can be bribed and such by a rich miniority which is a miniority of the people but have the majority of the cash.

However that is my humble opinion :-)

  5. Hmm, to start with I would land african UN-troops in the countries that suffers from civil war, dictators and so on. After sorting out and arranging peace over the entire continent I would form a consortium of all the international aid organisations and then rebuild one country at the time starting with the least most damaged ones, which when they are "working" can contribute with help to their neighbors and so on. During the entire process I would have UN-troops stationed in problem areas to avoid military coups and to secure the safety of the international aid workers. After having set up democratic governments and such, a continential project called TeachAFRICA which would educate the populations in all of the countries about democracy and basicly give them the knowledge to run their own countries. And step by step after the start of the TeachAFRICA-project a withdrawing of both aid-workers and military UN-troops would start. From that point we would only help out with necessary expertise and money. Forgot to add to the beginning, number one priority would be to remove all land mines!
