I changed the victory setting to none and it got what I desired. I had it on conquer previously.

I do not really enjoy it, since I like to either die or win slowly . Just now I had a Military score of >2000 while the opponent had like 600, but the overall was like 200 apart so the timer kicked in. I think I would have won, if not for the timer.
