  1. Tedious micromanagement? No thank you.

    I don't think it will be "tedious" because the purpose is it makes your units either resource gathering light armoured guys, or armoured warriors. It would add a harder defend element to the game forcing the player to have wall or a military presents in his base to make sure player doesn't get raided ^_^, Example: I don't like the way the bot has his male citizens gathering resources and as soon as you approach his border they magically appear there armour out of no where and all of a sudden hordes of guys have killed your army. If A.I had to equip all of his soldiers before he defended then i would probably do a bit of damage to his base and economy, maybe run away if i had light cavalry.

    I think the conventional house building system will always be the best.

    I like the conventional way also but too many games have it and it is kind of dull if you think about it. I think 0ad team should make up there own population/housing system, one that's millions times better :dirol:.

    I know there capable of it.

    I had the idea of creating "general" citizens, and then assign them to training to their profession.

    Good idea. And so is azayrahmad's idea of citizens generating over time from your built houses, would be less harsh on noobies who don't really resource race at the start of game and prefer to chill build as i call it.

  2. So the Barracks is a place where you build soldiers and cavalry (most factions) and I have been thinking lately why not make it so your soldiers are built without any armour on unless you choose them too, if they come out without there armour on they are more efficient at gathering resources and are faster on there feet. The armoured soldier has more armour/health/accuracy/los than there un-armoured side. This doesn't apply to ranged units because they are light armoured as it is. Also doesn't apply to cavalry because there is no point. Maybe you could expand on this like add a Battle alarm to the barracks or civ center that gets all of the unarmed male citizens in the territory to run to the barracks and equip some armour.

  3. Too many detectors and spies become useless.

    We've talked about this before, and here's a roundup of how I'd see them working:

    • The player can see the spy easily enough in his "spy gear" from the player's point of view (POV), but from the enemy's POV the unit looks just like one of their own soldiers.
    • The spy can do things like infiltrate a building to see what's going on inside it (vision of the production queue).
    • Spies can walk through enemy gates with no problem.
    • Assassinate. Costs Metal ("Gold") of course. Cannot assassinate heroes. Takes time to "recharge."
    • Bribe--Turncoat: Bribe a unit to your side. Costs variable amounts of Metal depending upon the training cost and rank of the unit being bribed. Sometimes this does not work and the spy is exposed for the fraud he is.
    • Bribe--Double-Agent: Bribing an enemy unit to be a double agent gives you that unit's vision/line of sight for X-number of minutes.

    Spies can be "found out" by:

    • An unsuccessful bribe.
    • Dogs. This would make Celts hard to spy on.
    • The enemy player clicks on what they think is their own unit, but it does not respond to commands.
    • Other spies can see other spies, but units do not auto-attack them.

    One does not just walk into an enemy base unnoticed, even if he is disguised as one of them im pretty sure he will be spotted and when they try and click on the unit (spy disquised as villager) they will not be allowed and then they will be like "why can i not select that unit... OMFG A SPY!!"

  4. darn i hope 0ad isn't the kind of game where APM is the main key too winning, im not really good at multi-tasking on strategy games so i'd be screwed if it is. Hope you can find a way around this.

    My suggestion is that all factions scout horse you start with at the beginning of each game be equipped with a ranged weapon so he can go hunt effectively because the melee scout horse you start with is useless for hunting because it can't seem to get a successful hit on fleeing animals. It would be good if there was a new hunting unit that takes a cart out and goes off killing wildlife and bringing back 200 food at a time.

  5. I would like too see a very in depth diplomacy system where i can do trade treaties. peace treaties and so on with the bots. I want to be able to bully the bots into giving me things for my protection from the other bots. i want to trade technologies with the bots/players giving us both an advantage. I know it would be hard but it would be really fun to play with bots and i think 0ad should have a really good (better than any other rts game) diplomacy ai.

  6. How fast can you reach each phase?

    Rules: Choose random map, Ardennes forest, medium size and turn players to 1, victory conditions is endless. List your faction and time you reached each phase (press f12 in game to see time) and no telling porkies!

    Faction: Celts

    Town phase: 3m45s :dirol:

    City Phase: 10m08s

    There's so many different effective ways to do but I just kept making mistakes on the City phase bit. :furious:

  7. Been playing alpha 10 for a bit now and it's really good but thought i would suggest some minor features that would make the game that little better. :rtfm:

    - Ability to change the colour of my team

    - Few more girl sound effects instead of the same "sigh"

    - Tool tips should have colour coded resources: food = red

    stone = pale grey

    metal = mustard colour

    Population = blue?

    or maybe make resources show red if you don't have enough and green if you do.

    - Option to turn off sounds.

    - Skirmish option to choose 2 AI to fight each-other while i spectate. Or in other words a spectate option.

    - Skirmish option to set population limit.

    - Skirmish to set starting resources.

    - Skirmish option to set the starting tech.

    - Music to play all songs instead of the same one.

    that is all i got for now. :wink_kiss:

  8. I can picture it in my head: A huge city with caravans going to local villages on the road that you built collecting metal from you metal mning village, a warband of your men marching through your city to check if the enemy is near your neighbouring villages, making my farms as big as i want them, villagers acting independently. ye it would be awesome but 0ad is meant to be a AOE inspired game and i remember reading the developers don't want a city builder.

  9. Continue this topic with the bugs i found playing this amazing game. First of all, I play the mac version, nowadays without sound. That's not a bug beacause i know the team is working on a new sound system. Bug list: - When you start a game with single player (against IA bot) i can't change my civ. I think i'm stupid not discovering how to do it and i think it's posible but it's not so clear how to do it. - When you are playing the menu button doesn't work, or the menu button work when you click it ten times. - In the game. When you are under attack, your workers cannot go into your buildings. In AO you can play a bell and all your workers you to your town hall. For 0 AD i think you must put a bell action and the works could go to any of your buildings, not only the town hall. - There is no Barrack building to train your soldiers. Train it in the town hall it's so weird. - Train cavalry in your town hall is not an option, It only must be in the stable. - The requirements for units and buildings need hignlight, is written with the same colour and the same font size than the other info. Must be in the first line, another info is secundary i think. - When you move your troops there isn't a destiny's mark when you click its destination if it isn't an enemy. Will be great see a mark when you move and see this mark when you select your moving troops. An Extra will be see the path they are following. - Workers must be women and men. If you only put women, the game will be so sexist. You can put some different characteristics between them. More effort and storage for women and more health and fighting damage for men. Thank you for create this great game.

    Mate, did you play 0ad for like 10 minutes lol? you can train cavalry in stables aswell as train soldiers in barracks, also the women are better at farming and collecting berry bushes. Town bell is planned. You can change your faction by changing game type to random on skirmish screen.

    Healers (priests) are too underpowered. They only give 5 HP per heal. Give them more healing power so they are viable in battle or give them the power to convert enemy units.
    .

    I hated this feature in AOE games, its cheap and annoying so please don't add it.
