The outcome of the war determined future history, literally. Besides the Persian War, perhaps no other conflict in the history of mankind has the victory of one side so radically changed the course of events. For without Roman victory, that nation would not have gone onto conquer the known world.Without Roman domination the writings of the Greeks might well have been lost, the great leaps in technology under Roman rule might not have happened, Europe would have remained under the control of the Celts and Germans, ignorant of the great knowledge cultivated along the Mediterranean.
