  1. im a battle-fanatic and a war-fanatic. Not the type of person that likes war, I just like the strategies used to win a war. I think the spartans are the greatest military machine because they are near impossible to kill in one-on-one combat. in one of the links above, it says this:

    "Spartans would give battle even if they had only a thousand men to take the field. Xerxes questioned this, asking if the Spartans were such men that they could expect to take on ten men each. Demaratus replied "One-against-one, they are as good as anyone in the world. But when they fight together, they are the best of all. For though they are free men, they are not entirely free. They accept the Law as their master. And they respect this master more than your subjects respect you. Whatever the Law commands, they do. And this command never changes: It forbids them to flee in battle, whatever the number of their foes. He requires them to stand firm – to conquer or die."

  2. I was reading about battles of ancient greece when I came upon "The battle of Thermopylae." Its where 300 spartans and about 6700 other greek allies held off an estimated 200,000-250,000 persians at a pass through the mountains for 3 days and 3 nights.

    After the 1st day, xerxes was impressed at how such a little force held off against 2 of his large divisions, said to the spartans that if they would leave the pass and join him they would be the spearhead of his army. The spartan king replied "Molon Labe!" (Come and get them!)

    After the 2nd day, a traitor told xerxes (emperor of persia) about a goat path that lead around the pass. King Leonidas (king of the spartans) told his men to go home, to fight another day defending their homeland. A few spartans left because of injuries but the rest stayed, some other greeks stayed to. When xerxes led men around the pass and surrounded the greeks, they fought in a circular formation facing outwards on a hilltop.

    King leonidas was killed a distance away, so the spartans formed a tight formation and retrieved his body and fought their way back to the hill.

    Xerxes told them he would spare them if they gave him the king's body, the spartans replied "A spartan leaves with his shield, or upon it!" he then launched a volly of arrows that eventually killed the rest of the greeks.

    This battle gave the greeks enough time to evacuate athens, build a fleet, and prepare a defense. The modern world reconizes this as a greek victory.

    LOTR PART!

    Circular formation on the hill top is at the battle of the morrannon. Trying to buy frodo some time (buy the greeks some time) or it could be helms deep where 300 men vs 10,000 held off. or minas tirith where few hundred men held off in the city against 200,000 orcs and the like. And how no matter what, they would not surrender.

  3. I was just reading on LotR : Battle for Middle-Earth, and it seems to be just like a Total war Game. You can move your armies around the LWM as they call it. (Live World Map) and if you attack and destroy Minas Tirith, on the LWM it shows it as destroyed. I watched the demo (No officially released one you can play, only a video) and it shows you as the orcs, attacking a small ithilien force, then attacking minas tirith. Amazing LWM they have... painted and looks just like the map of Middle Earth. (Even has birds, flying nazguls, clouds, and rain on the LWM!)

  4. You should make something where if you have lots of men you can group some men into a special group called 'reinforcements' and there will be a button that you click then click the spot where you need reinforcements and all men in that group will run to that spot. It replaces the need to find your men, then clicking on your men then scrolling back to the battle and clicking the terrain. ;)

  5. Hey guys, I haven't been on this site in like... many months, so heres my first topic now that im back!

    If any of you have played Shogun - Total War, Medieval - Total War, or Rome - Total War, then you know how awesome it is. Rome total war has amazing graphics and has unlimited startegical ways to defeat your enemies like they do in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd age. I'm wondering how many of you would buy a Total War game about LotR! Also do any of you know a mod that turns Rome - total war into lotr?

  6. Someone said earlier that glaurung only walked and not flew, but that cannot be correct because it says in unfinished tales (don't have it with me at this moment) that when he went to attack brethil but was slain by turin that he went in a stright line breathing fire all around him. wouldn't it take him a very long time to walk from nargothrond to brethil... also when mablung was checking out nargothrond the bridge was broken and that glaurung went straight into the doors of felagund. the only part of all the boks that battles my theory is that glaurung tried to leap over the river (or cliff) near brethil.

    lol sry for the long paragraph.

  7. The Fall of Arnor would be a great campaign :wacko: How bout the expansion title "Conquests in the North!" , "Fall of the North!" or just simply "Fall of Arnor!"

    These are a lot of Campaigns to do... Like i said earlier in this thread, i'd be happy to do some.

    Oh, and one last thing. How about a Rohan campaign? Like from the fields of celebrant to minas tirith. Like in gondors campaign you play as gondor in pelennor, rohirrim campaign you play as rohan, and FoD you play as mordor and harad. :D

  8. -> biggzh:

    For one, Earendil was of the race of men when he sailed to the undying lands so that cannot be a reason for gil-galad to sail away.

    -> Mithrandil:

    Fingolfin didn't take on Sauron... he took on Morgoth. Which is the reason I voted for him. He was saddened (and probably pissed) at Morgoth for the casualties of the battle. He rode his horse all the way to Angband and challenged Morgoth, hewed his foot then died a heroic death. :D (They say it looked as if Orome has returned to Middle-Earth.)

    :wacko:

    -> ElftheHunter:

    I would have to say Ecthelion is better then Glorfindel because he basicly did the exact same thing, (kill a balrog and die in the process) yet he killed the Lord of the Balrogs, Gothmog. (Tougher then your usual daily Balrog.)

  9. I've seen a post about having riders able to mount/dismount and i heard it wasnt going to be put in but i want to know if it could be a editor type unit? When the editor comes out people will make maps. :D I was hoping to make an RPG type map as they do in StarCraft. (RTS game that people make RPG maps in.

    IT would be cool if you could have your character journey across an area on horseback and the same unit dismounts and fights or something. :muaha:

  10. Maybe this could be added with a special button on the side for the archer formations.. like the normal attack wouldn't have friendly fire but if you see tons of units coming at you, you dont want to take one down at a time, you want them all dead so you shoot in the air. There for its the users choice if he wants friendly fire in the fight. :brow::brow:

  11. Hey, I thought i'd post a topic about this since i did a search and didn't find one.

    Basicly you can post all your favorite quotes from ALL of the books J.R.R. Tolkien wrote and the movies.

    Here are mine:

    LORD OF THE RINGS: RETURN OF THE KING (Movie)

    "Ride Now, RIDE NOW, Ride for ruin and the Worlds Ending!" -Theoden

    "I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of men fails.When we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day! This day we fight!" - Aragorn

    SILMARILLION (Book)

    "...and of all the deeds of war wrought by the fathers of men, the last stand of the men of Dor-Lomin is most reknowned!" - The Fifth Battle

    P.S. At www.AudibleBeauty.net are .wav files with quotes and music from all three movies!

  12. Actyally it was Maedhros's ideas for the 5th battle. He was inspired by Beren and Luthiens deeds that he relized Melkor wasnt invincible and could be destroyed that he organized the Union of Maedhros. Which ended up a disastor because of gwindor (running in leading all the host into angbands gates) and ulfast who #1 told him that it was postponed, and #2 betrayed him in the battle.

    There *takes a breaths*

    lol :P

  13. Well, I think the 5th battle, and Dagor Brach. could be played out from good's view. Even though they will lose it like goes alomng with the story line. I'm a person who believes in honor, valor, and stuff like that. and personally wish this wa medieval times again except in Tolkiens world. :P So whether I win or lose the 5th battle, I will still feel the honor of fighting to the last alongside Hurin and Huor shouting "AURE ENTULUVA!" :P

  14. :P My opinion is:

    First Age: Start with the coming of Feanor into Hithlum from Valinor and the first battle, then the 2nd battle, the third, the firoth, and the 5th with Hurin, Huor, Fingon and the rest of the gang. Also you can do the other missions, Such as Fall of Gondolin, Fall of Nargothrond, Travels of Beren and Luthien, and also the travels of Turin. :P to the war of wrath. You can either leave out the WoW or make one up based on what we do know.

    Second Age: The Last Alliance (as someone said, DUH its the name of this project)

    Third Age: War of the Ring (You can do the hobbit battle of the five armies. Also the battle of the fords of the Isen, Hornburg, 3 battles of Lorien, dol guldur, siege of erebor, thranduils battle, Battle of Osgiliath, Battle of the Morannon, and of course my favorite... The battle of Pelennor Fields!)

    These are just my opinions. If you need help making them should you decide to do them, I will happily help make them! :P:P

    P.S I like the new smilies that keep getting added. :P:P:P celt looks like einstien.

    P.S.S. Sry for talking too much. lol
