Some players like me dont like to be mixed with noobs. We like op games.

Also the reason that there is lack of players is not behaviour of players

    There r some reasons

    1-No new version

2-We have to switch mods many times that is annoying

3-We have to use vpn to connect to games

I really love this kind of discussion.

As an old game project manager,

I am so sorry this is what you think.

During the eighties games ROMS were not updated but players spend a lot of money. I am not really sure your first point is a real issue.

as of tomorrow I think this is a choice (a good one? a bad one?) to make this game very open => If you don't like it (like me indeed) you can write your disappointment to improve what you're dislike  (I agree with you, but unfortunately it looks like the switching mod is not an issue for most players - very frustrating I have to say )

Concerning the VPN issue, .... What to say except a lot of players already reported bugs... Of course this is an issue for a lot of players... but it looks like the dev team has no answer.

But actually joining what you wrote and what I wrote does not reveal gap in players wishes.

as of now, I am in the hall: There are 13 games, and only 1 is not launched. Whatever what you think and what I think, we can't say it is a success.

  2. I am thinking...

If the problem is smurfing and TG...

Well, maybe the most important data to display next to the player name in the hall  is not the score 1v1 but the age of the account. We can change the years by other numbers or text (I mean qualification) related to the age of the account.

I am thinking that as an old game developer who had to improve game experiences through its games. But I maybe wrong. it need tests probably.

We dont play with unknown players

Because they are smurf or noobs

In both cases the game will be spoiled

It happens in all games not just 0ad

If u r noob just play games in ur lvl and try to lvl up

If u r smurf just come with ur real acc

    GL

    I don't agree,

there are many games we can mix players with different level. A good player can win by helping newbies and help them to win the game as well. Instead of that, I notice during TG the looser always say it is not his fault but because he played with newbies. But it is the same for the other team so... The best team win. That's all.

And I think the rule you think good is one of the reason there are less and less players playing 0AD.

And I can also said I saw a lot of games interrupted brutally because one player have bad connection. So actually the first question you should ask is what is your connection instead of what is your level.

I agree we have to review the rating system : I don't like to play 1v1 this is why I have a bad level.

  4. To me the best RTS was definitely Sudden Strike Forever (not the other one of the serie)

    Main differences with other "RTS":

    - if you are fired by a sniper well... You don't loose energy or something like that : you are die (like in real life)

    - it is the same with big ammo : if you receive a big ammo on your head you are dead

    - units with slings, or bows or guns can not destroy buildings (like real life) you need dedicated units like tanks.

    - of course this logic is the same with all units : a guy with a gun or a bow or a flamethrower can not destroy a tank even if he fire 1000 bullets (unlike 0AD). But of course there are units with dedicated ammos to fights tanks. This is important because .....

    - you can not produce units : to have more resources you have to fight vs the other team to win locations for 20 seconds (and there are several colours, for example you have to be on all green locations for 20 seconds to win reinforcements)

    -  another very very good feature is you can give troups to an ally and this change the game strategy a lot

    - the spy system is more developped : for exemple you can go with a soldier in a house or a barrack and if you disable its fire, he stay in discret mode and watch around him. The way for the ennemy to locate him is to go inside the same building... This change the gameplay a lot as well

    - The mini map is more readable as unit colors are rapidely seen, and you can directly make actions to units on the minimap

    - 0AD add the same feature like suddenstrike : you can point something on the map

This is not expected at all: the game builds and runs on Ubuntu LTS. You can follow sarcoma's guide above. However, the PPA maintainer indeed has an issue building the game on the Launchpad containers, we don't know why yet. There should be an update for 0 A.D. on Ubuntu LTS as soon as possible, but it will be quicker for you to build the game.

    HI,

many thanks for your feedback, I compiled the last version it works.

Related to the issue on the package, may I suggest you to have a look on what I wrote: I think there are unresolved dependencies (I think 4) inside the file "control" inside the package.

For exemple  this dependency : "libgloox17" is not available for the currentLTS version of  Ubuntu  (but it will be available for the next versions of Ubuntu)

    https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=default&section=all&arch=any&keywords=libgloox17&searchon=names

Here are the dependencies found in the file "control" in the last 0ad version:

    Depends: 0ad-data (>= 0.0.23b), 0ad-data (<= 0.0.23b-0ubuntu1~18.04~wfg0), 0ad-data-common (>= 0.0.23b), 0ad-data-common (<= 0.0.23b-0ubuntu1~18.04~wfg0), libboost-filesystem1.65.1, libboost-system1.65.1, libc6 (>= 2.27), libcurl3-gnutls (>= 7.16.2), libenet7, libgcc1 (>= 1:3.4), libgl1, libgloox17, libicu60 (>= 60.1-1~), libminiupnpc10 (>= 1.9.20140610), libnspr4 (>= 2:4.9.2), libnvtt2, libopenal1 (>= 1.14), libpng16-16 (>= 1.6.2-1), libsdl2-2.0-0 (>= 2.0.8), libsodium23 (>= 1.0.14), libstdc++6 (>= 5.2), libvorbisfile3 (>= 1.1.2), libwxbase3.0-0v5 (>= 3.0.4+dfsg), libwxgtk3.0-0v5 (>= 3.0.4+dfsg), libx11-6, libxcursor1 (>> 1.1.2), libxml2 (>= 2.9.0), zlib1g (>= 1:1.2.0)

ps: I can see there is a downgrade on version of libboost-system1 since my previous message, may I suggest to downgrade version of libgloox ?

  6. To Ubuntu users,

the last release of 0ad was uploaded today (28 Dec 18) , but as expected, it does not work with the Long Term Support version of Ubuntu.

The package manager can't find the dependencies and only the 0.23RC3 is downloadable.

=> It is not possible for regular users of Ubuntu (LTS) to join the Lobby with the last version of 0ad.

  7. For Ubuntu users, this is what I found:

It is still not possible to install automatically the last 0.23 Ubuntu version.

So ....  after some hours searching ... Maybe I found why it is not possible to install the last version of 0ad on Ubuntu with official repositories...

It is clearly possible to find the last version in some Ubuntu repositories, but adding the repositories does not change the number of the version to install... the package manager only display  the first 0.23 version. And for some reasons sometime it is the 0.22 version ... :(

So to understand what's happened, I installed the last possible version (first 0.23 from wfg repository) and I tried to install the last package manually...

I discovered some dependencies are missing in Ubuntu LTS repository.

For exemple, as written in the 0ad package control file, 0ad depends on  libboost-filesystem1.67.0

But browsing the Ubuntu LTS repositories, this version is not available.

=> If I am right, because the package manager can't find dependencies for the last version, it think this version is not installable, so it is look for the previous 0ad version... and magic...  all dependencies are available... So the package manager display this 0ad version but this is not the last one...

     I can be wrong...

As Ubuntu user, I think there is a bug in the documentation. I do not recommend to install 0ad from Universe repository : For me, and maybe for the same reason, I can not install any 0.23 version from Universe repository  (0.22.4 max). To have a chance to install the first 0.23 version the wfg repository is needed....

But unfortunately, the last 0.23 is not available on wfg repository and I suspect if wfg release the last version, it will not work on Ubuntu LTS for the same reasons...

  8. Well...

    I didn't play 0Ad for months....

I don't know why, yesterday I decided to play online again to this amazing game.

I discovered there are some new issues with the server. For some reasons, I can host, and join some games, but not all games.

Well, let say, I can join 50% of the availables multiplayer games... (after spending 2 hours trying to solve the issue).

Yesterday, I wait for one hour to find a game in the hall...

And today, I simply decided... to resign.... Again after one hour waiting.

Here is my adventure, despite the issue with the connexion....

Every time I want to participate a game, people told me I have no level....

I spent one hour yesterday and one hour today with these comments.

I don't know how people can say that about me without knowing me, I am playing this game since 2014, but this is not the topic...

There are about 10 players online waiting for a game, and open games for 20 players.... This is strange, why not complete the opened games before?

I don't know how it is possible to attract new players if new players can't play multiplayer games...

Well, sorry to say that, but I'll have a new test in months.

to my friends, I'll tell it is not yet a good multiplayer game, as you need to know to community to have a chance to play online.

I'll definitely hope some attitudes will change as this game is really really good.

I worked in videogames 10 years ago, and what I have to say is this is a excellent game.
