Hannibal was in Italy, near Perugia, in the centre/middle. It wasn't a good idea re-attack him after the lost battle on the lake Trasimeno, if hannibal wins, he could take rome.

For the letters i think that he chose those because so all the people can understand the name of the hero even if there isn't the "translation".
Sozomai, i think you are greek or you lik ancient greek so only you can see the difference form the "original" letters of the greek alphabet and you can read it or people who studied ancient greek (like me: sozomai = save, rescue).

I agree with Scutatus, the legions started to use the rectangular scutum during the Ottaviano Augusto's empire. We can see infact that these three soldats are wearing a Montefortino helmet and a kardiophilax (the shield on the chest to protect the heart) and these are elements that remind to Republican Roman age.

Please please, I hope God will destruct film and comic "300"...
Before that ones nobody knows who was Leonida and the Spartans. Only the people who like history very much and for real knew the battle of Thermopylae and only who studies ancient greek...Now also the children know the brave spartans but stop, their knowledge on history stops here. Oh and on the Odissey with the movie "Troy"...
By the way, I appreciated the post of Paal_101, Scutatus and Alexthegod5.
