===[TASK]=== Mauryan Swords

Recommended Posts

I noticed the curved sword for the Maruyan looks like a copy of the western one. The hilt for example is different in the Indian one.

This is very good, except the modern/medieval additions like the ornamental designs.

Easy ^_^

Could you indicate which ones do we need? just that last one?

Yeah, just with out the medieval carvings. Make it longer like this example. Longer than the Kopis.

And probably why it dates it to "Ajanta"

Because of the foot soldiers in the Ajanta paintings.

Maybe there is literature mentioning them in the Mauryan period, but Im not even sure.

We could do the long curved swords or go with broad swords, as shown (sheathed) in all of the references. It would also be good to give sheathed sword props to most of the other units, as archers and other soldiers tend to be shown carrying a sword at their hips.

Might be a little high poly for a weapon but here's what i've got so far :P

Tris: 492

Quite new, so any feedback is greatly appreciated :)

That's too much detail for a weapon. Consider the normal camera zoom level, you will not be able to see so much detail even at full zoom. The blade shape looks good though.

Try to do it under 70 tris

There's no need to add thickness to the blade, is not going to be noticed. Also the parts of the sword do not need to be part of the same mesh (but it should be from the same object), that will help you with topology.

Right, but it should only be on essentially two axes. For example: right now I took away the thickness and all the verts have the same y value, but the blade is at 11 tris. Not sure if this is what you meant ^_^

(without thickness)

I think you should make it based on 12.

This image shows some of the weapons on the Sanchi Stupa.
