0ad quits when "registering with server"

yes i am, and thank you. -
Every time i try to join a game in the lobby, the game starts registering with server, but just before actually joining the server, the program quits, and a window pops out saying "0ad has unexpectedly quit". This only happens in 0ad alpha 18. Please help.
