However, in Antiquity the name “Red Sea” was applied to all waters surrounding the Arabian peninsula (i.e. Gulf of Suez, Gulf of Aqaba, Red Sea, Bab-el-Mandeb, Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea, Gulf of Oman, Strait of Hormuz, Persian Gulf), which allowed people to sail from Egypt to Mesopotamia and Iraq.
