[Formations] how do they work and how to use them? plus some good tutorials on how to micro your units in fight?

where can I find some good up to date tutorials or vids (maybe replays where formations are successfully used?) on this topic of formations and micromanaging your units in general?

Aside from this, some initial clarifications:

what is the relation between stances (aggressive, passive etc.) and formations and how they affect each other?

what is a "default" formation (the one enabled with right click)?

what is the attack move order more exactly?

etc.

Thanks in advance!

There is no relation between stances and formation.

The default formation is the one units will turn to by default when selecting groups of units and odering them to move.

Attack move is a command that asks units to attack everything between where they are and their destination.

so, the default formation is only for the move, not when fighting or attacking?

Can this be changed under Options>Game session>Formation control?  Instead of "Walk/Patrol Only" should be set to "No Override"?

Anyway, thank you very much. I watched some competitive multiplayer replays but I haven't seen too much use of formation or any insight about them. Do you know any uploaded on yt?

probably already been written many times, but yeah:

- right click on "no formation" in order to have no formation in use by default (current default is very bad for competitive play, and it's going to be worse in next alpha)

- only use formations to regroup your men quickly, especially at the beginning of an engagement (usually after first contact happened without any use of formations)

- end formations immediately after you created it. never leave units in formation while they are fighting. you can use attack-move for that, because attack-move immediately disbands any formation.
