Hi everyone,

I've created over 2000 tracks of original music and sound effects that you are welcome to freely use in your games and projects. All I ask is to be attributed as described on my website:

soundimage.org/

I sincerely hope some of my tracks are helpful.

Enjoy!  :-)

Happy July Everyone,

This week’s brand new music tracks are:

On my Puzzle Music 7 page:

“QUIRKY CONSTRUCTION”
https://soundimage.org/puzzle-music-7/

And on my Sci-Fi 11 page:

“AN INTROSPECTIVE AUTOMATON”
“SNEAKIN’ AROUND A CYBER DUMP”
https://soundimage.org/sci-fi-11/

If you happen to use some of my music, please feel free to share your project(s) if you wish…I love to see how creative people are using my tracks!

It's great that you're supporting open licensed content creators with so much music. I would like to use some of the music that you have shared, but I have a concern.

License terms that are subjective are a risk to potential licensees. Different people might define certain terms differently, and it can be unpredictable how a court would interpret those terms. "Obscene" for example has a wide range of interpretations. "Pornographic" less so, although there is debate about how to define nudity without sexual context.

How do you personally define the words "obscene" and "pornographic"? Can you include a definition for these words in your official statements about the license, please?

Suppose that someone makes a video of 0 A.D. gameplay and uses your music as background music. And, suppose that a player used curse words in some of the chat messages that were captured by the video. Would you consider such a video to be "obscene" and therefore not allowed to use your music?

Here is another test case. Sometimes there are situations where non-soldier citizens are killed by soldiers in 0 A.D. Would you consider that obscene? Now consider that all non-soldier citizens are currently only women in the game. Do you consider it obscene if a woman is killed by a soldier in the gameplay?

Some of the units in the game have little clothing on. Where do you personally draw the line between "tight beach bod" and "pornographic"?

If you haven't read about the obscenity court cases in the US then I recommend it, regardless of your opinions about obscenity vs censorship. It's a real eye opener about how law is interpreted, and therefore it's useful for ensuring that a license is worded in a way that is clear and unambiguous.

"Courts have attempted to define obscenity at common law with varying amounts of success; even the federal obscenity statute does not directly define “obscenity,” and obscenity laws can vary drastically from state to state."

Thanks for the info...I'll check it out when I get a chance. :-) The vast majority of game developers who use my tracks create games that don't have the kinds of elements in them that you mentioned, but I do get this question occasionally, usually from developers who create adult games. Generally speaking, as with films, if there is artistic merit to the element(s) in question, then I have no problem with it. If in doubt, email me with some details and I'll be happy to give it a look.

Greetings Fellow Creatives!

I've had some questions about how to properly attribute me when using my music. It's super easy.

Let's say, for example, that you're using two of my tracks, "MIND BENDER" and "NETHERPLACE" in your project.

If you're using only my music (and not music by other artists) then you would attribute me like this:

Music by Eric Matyas
www.soundimage.org

(The reference to my website doesn't have to be an actual link.)

Now, let's say you're using those two tracks of mine AND music by another artist or artists. In this case, you need to identify my tracks so people know which ones are mine. So you need to attribute me like this:

"MIND BENDER"
"NETHERPLACE"
by Eric Matyas
www.soundimage.org

(Again, the reference to my website doesn't have to be an actual link.)

All of this information can be found on the attribution information page on my site:

https://soundimage.org/attribution-info/

There's also information about how to attribute me in other kinds of projects, like podcasts, theater productions, etc.

If anyone has any  questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. My email address is on the homepage of my site.

Enjoy and keep creating!  :-)

Greetings Fellow Creatives,

If you find my free music helpful, please consider making a small donation on my website to help support my efforts.  I don't allow advertising on the site because I feel it would be distracting to my visitors so I pay for everything myself.  Support from the community is literally what makes this possible. Thank you in advance!  :-)

That said, this week's new free music tracks are:

On my Funny 8 page:
"MONSTER MERRY-GO-ROUND "
https://soundimage.org/funny-8/

And on my Sci-Fi 12 page:
"CYBER STREET MARKET"
https://soundimage.org/sci-fi-12/

Enjoy, stay safe and keep being creative!

Quite some interesting compositions. Sadly my TimeMachine is far from finished.

Perhaps people prefer advertising on your site over any financial transactions?

Reasons:

  • You gain a steady income. At least something. Even if nobody buys a Pack.
  • People are hardened already as ads are massive on FB, TikTok, ... even in VR, games nowadays.
  • Look at all these dubious movie/software download pages. Thousands of nasty, fake ads, opening many ad pages. Yet people still visit and try to grab something for free :)
  • Free community is unhappy with complications and fees. Every transaction supports the finance industry - already pretty wealthy actors according to the records. (Though virtual advertising also spreads money to some select big players)

Until 2020 even buying food in a big discounter heavily supported WireCard AG in Germany! Known fraudsters that financed dark, dirty and unethical black market businesses on the entire globe for 20+ years!

It's 100% free to use with attribution, just like my thousands of other tracks.

If you haven't checked them out yet, my Ogg music packs enable you to download all of my tracks at once from various genres...a huge time-saver. You'll find them here:
