Soft Battalions [General Thread]

Curious question about battalions, if implemented would that mean that the roman maniple checked battle lines are a viable tactic to use? Currently the only why to do that is by control groups. So are battalions essentially the ultimate form of control group?

I think soft battalions are a kind of overlapping in function with control groups. what battalions do, however, control groups do better.

Anyway, I don't think roman checkered battle line is recommendable in any game really, not even total war.

It would be ideal that once a formation is given, civil actions should be limited, due to bugs.

No gathering.

No building.

unless the formation is removed.

I say this because of the pathfinder bugs.

is there a way to create "hard" battalions, like hyrule conquest or D.O.W by default?

Units tend to spread out a lot if they have different behavior or stances before the battalion is formed.

the stance should be the same in a battalion. There should be no mixed stances.

Attack move ( and Attack move+Q)  tends to disorganize troops.

Capturing also disrupts troops formation.

There is not much information about the formation in the overlay text boxes.

Yes stances could be unified when entering formation but which one to pick if there are multiple set, or always set default?, there us also question what with healers in formation.

good question. mixed formation. in case there is a different unit of class , yes you are right.

Archers for example + infantry would also be different.

Or hero and the rest of the units.

@Silier

Ideas .

a member of the battalion is ""sacrificed"", to be a banner bearer. This unit will not fight. He will only die, he will have the resistance that his companions.

When another dies, he will take his place and so on until the battalion disintegrates.

There is another problem(current problem) joining several continents ie if you selected several battalions they mix and adopt unwanted behavior.

There should be additional options to the battalion.

Persistent options, like putting a lock on and unless they die remain unchanged.

There should be a battalion icon when selecting multiple battalions.

Obvious problems.

Focus on banner bearer.

It will be placed in the center in the case of formation and will have a high resistance to archers and missile units, except siege engines.

The other option is for it to be an ornament just like the banner.
