Historic Names list

Is there anything further I could help with?

If you can come up with some names for Illyrian, Dacian, Thracian and Odrysian AI that will help a lot. Also the Judeans need some AI names.

Even better if you can help me edit the xml files for actors to create 'new' buildings for some of the balkan civs. You don't have to use blender; just attack some Greek/Roman skin onto celtic buildings mesh (.dae files) for now. We will get better models when the artists have time to make some but for now we create our structures by mix and matching props ;)

Héroes ;(3)

1." Teres I ";-------------------------------------(Τήρης )
2." Sitalces";-------------------------------------(Σιτάλκης)
3." Kotys I ";-------------------------------------(Κότυς)

I agree on those three, but I would consider Seuthes III as well. Maybe instead of Sitalces.

Over there I posted a list of historically important personalities being entirely or partly of Thracian ancestry. Bolding below is from me to indicate which to probaby select/ further discuss. The others seem to have some connection with Thrace but since we search for names for kings and heroes that might not really qulify for these.

Orpheus is told to be of Thracian origin, but on the other hand a mythological figure. Do we (in general) exclude or include such?

Furthermore, I am not sure about the famous Spartacus. Appian says he was "a Thracian by birth, who had once served as a soldier with the Romans, but had since been a prisoner and sold for a gladiator".[6] Do you think he should be selected as a Thracian hero?

Sitalces was, according to Wikipedia, king of the Odrysian state. If we want to differentiate this from Thracians, then we should save this figure for later use?

If somebody else with better historic background would like to share her/his thoughts, please let me know. Thank you so much. :)

I am not supporting the idea of two Thracian factions, and I don't have the time nor the will to argue about heroes.

So you have free hand on the matter.

Currently we have Thracians, Illyrians, Dacians. Should we get Odrysians as well?

In my opinion, this is a terrible idea. First, because most of our evidences, archaeologically and historically, are related to the Odrysians. Second, because this is incoherent, we don't do the same for other cultures. Else, why not dividing Getae and Dacians? The same for Illyrians with the Autariatae, Dalmatiae, Dardani, Ardiaei etc.

So what do you suggest?

Just one big Odrysian civ?

Yes, that makes things much easier. BTW, the reason why I only mentioned Sitalces (of Odrysian origin) was that he was mentioned in another post referring to the Thracian. I just wanted to ask how to proceed with him, not meaning that the others are not worth mentioning. As I said earlier, I am no historian at all but just got to it by sheer chance (or by being kindly asked, I shall say). ;) So if my posts in this regard were not well-grounded, please accept my apologies.

There are always gameplay problems with that. Not enough heroes is case 1.

Case 2- there are no wonders/marvels.

Unless they share them.

The third and rarest case is incomplete buildings and architecture.

Thracians

More photos - are they helpful at all? Or do you need rather sketches?

Dacians

PS:

As @Genava55 rightfully wrote, some of this could be used as placeholder. I do not know how exactly you arts guys work. Do you use photos, sketches, text, etc. as inspiration to draw something? Because of lack of understanding, my quick links very likely do not meet your expectations.

@Yekaterina

Could you use some of the links I posted? Is there maybe anything further I could help with? I am afraid that I do not understand the second paragraph in your quoted post:

If you pointed me to some reading source, maybe I could understand better and help in this regard as well. Thank you!

How can I play with some files and check the effects in the Atlas editor? When the editor is open, the public.zip file cannot be accessed/altered. What am I missing?

When the editor is open, the public.zip file is constantly being accessed by the system, so Windows 10 would restrict you from opening it to prevent corruptions. You need to close the scenario editor and all 0ad related processes, then right click on public.zip then click on 'extract here'. After the extraction is done you will get a folder called 'public' (it is huge)! Delete the original public.zip, then restart the game. You should see the mod selection screen. Select 0ad, then restart the game a few times to check if it works. You can then edit the files in public folder.

Alternatively, build from git or svn

Yes, it was blocked while in use. Now that I use SVN, the public folder comes already unpacked.

I observed that the editor does not recognize several changes it not restarted. I assume that adding a function in the editor to force-load everything by clicking a button would not have much benefit, as it would take the same time as manually restarting it. Correct? Sorry, btt... ;)

I've wanted a "hotload" button for a long time. No, the button would not take the same amount of time as restarting the program as hotloading would only be reloading the game's assets, not rebooting the entire program and loading the game's assets. Also, you would keep your current progress with a button.
