Can you install Wildfire Games' "Rome at War" Mod on Steam's AOK HD version (or for that matter AOE2DE)?

Recommended Posts

"Rome at War" is a neat Roman-style Mod made by Wildfire Studios in 2002 for the regular AOK (The Conquerors 1.0c). It has its own website (http://www.wildfiregames.com/raw) and is also on AOK Heaven (http://aok.heavengames.com/blacksmith/showfile.php?fileid=5103). I want to use it because there are alot of attractive scenarios made for that Mod. The Installation Instructions say to use "Mod Pack Studio Lite 2.0", and I don't know if that will work on the Steam version, which has game files in different directories (eg. the Steam folder).

Someone claimed on Reddit last year that it doesn't work on 64 Bit Windows, which computers today like mine commonly use. ("https://www.reddit.com/r/aoe2/comments/b7h194/any_good_mods_that_just_add_a_civilization_andor")
In the Comments section, Vardamir replied: "You can install an akx file like Rome at War with 7zip and some modding knowledge or this tool: http://aok.heavengames.com/blacksmith/showfile.php?fileid=12543"
Vardamir was referring to his tool called Genie Converter that installs "AKX" files, but I wasn't able to get it to install the RAW Mod successfully on my AOE2 HD program.

The AOK Heaven Forum notes that ModDb also has a copy of this Mod uploaded by its Creators:
http://aok.heavengames.com/cgi-bin/forums/display.cgi?action=st&fn=9&tn=44325&st=2
The Forum thread notes that it is easy to use Mods now with Steam. Steam has its own Mod Program called the "Workshop". I am not sure if this means that Mods have to be in the online Steam Workshop database to install them successfully.

I think that you can with Genie converter, which you can find on the AOK Heaven Blacksmith database. In the Comments section, the converter's designer explained more to me about how to install RAW Mod using the converter.

Hey, sorry nobody answered before.

We don't really maintain the mod anymore sadly. Did you manage to make it work with that converter ?

Stan,
Thanks for writing back.
Yes, Vardamir walked me through the process of installing RAW using Genie Converter.
As I recall, I was not able to use Genie Converter successfully on my own for this Mod and instead Vardamir ended up sending me his Mod files directly himself after he used Genie Covnerter to make the Mod work for him.

By the way, are you the same as "Stan the Conquistador" associated with Tsunami Studios on Heaven Games? I ask because I want to use his Three Kingdoms Mod that was hosted on the Tsunami Studios website before that website went down.

In 2001, Stan "The Conquistador," JiangjunIzzy/"Cherub Izzy"/"Ballista_Turtle," "Cian McGuire," and Tsunami Studios made a Campaign called "Heroes of the Three Kingdoms - Episode I v 1.02" with a Mod called "Heroes of the Three Kingdoms." (http://aok.heavengames.com/blacksmith/showfile.php?fileid=576)

The Campaign's Instructions for the Mod on the Heaven games website say:
[ind]Please download it from the link below and extract all files to your AOE2 directory.

Heroes of the Three Kingdoms modpack

The above link does not work anymore. If you have the Heroes of the Three Kingdoms Mod Pack please contact the Blacksmith Administrator. [/ind]

Nope it's not me

Glad to hear you figured it out! Maybe you could upload the files somewhere in case other people want to do the same :)

Jorritkarwehr/Vardamir who made the Genie Converter sent me a "Mod" file for it back in November. As a result of your encouragement, I just uploaded it as you suggested as a Mod to the AOK Blacksmith on Heaven Games with permission from James and Jill from Wildfire Studios. The tracking number for my submission is: 13689

Now if only I could get in contact with Tsunami Studios and Stan from that company. ..... :)
