Siege Workshop
As with all other civs, building a Siege Workshop unlocks the Catapult, which can be built by citizen soldiers anywhere on the map. Unlike other civs, the Macedonians do not have to research "Ballistics" before researching catapult technologies.

  • Lithobolos Catapult
Unlocked by building a Siege Workshop.

Making use of the Upgrade feature

The Macedonians make extensive use of the 'Upgrade' feature in the game. By upgrading a Barracks to a Royal Barracks, it unlocks new units and techs. Same thing for the Stable: upgrading it to a Royal Stable unlocks new units and techs. The champion units (Hypaspists and Companions) can upgrade to more powerful versions after researching unlocking techs at the Royal Barracks and Royal Stable. The Heroes have a new unlocking feature that I want to role out to all the heroes in the game. They start life as "foot" versions and then can subsequently be upgraded to a mount, which gives extra health, speed, trample, and other things.

Is having more than three heroes a Macedonian bonus; or do you plan to roll out that to other civs too ?

Also the cuirass on Craterus looks great, very detailed texture.

Texture baked by @Enrique.

As far as number of heroes, I think it can vary by civ depending on what historical characters can be justified or are interesting. Eventually I'd like to include Hyrule Conquest's hero selection screen so you'd choose 1 hero to lead your civilization for the whole match.

It would be cool if the Romans had Caesar,  a bit late in the timeline but very revelant since he fought Cleopatra, Vercingetorix, and the Britons.

Current faction is based on Polybian era tho, maybe for a possible triumvirate civ ?

Indeed.

A Triumvirate civ is certainly in the cards. I want to represent the Romans at their major turning points: Republican, Triumvirate, Principate, Dominate.

Any suggestions for Republican and Triumvirate heroes?

Republican (Polybian army)

  • Marcellus
  • Maximus
  • Scipio
  • ?

Triumvirate (Marian Reforms+ army): Probably the civ with the most heroes.

  • Marius
  • Sulla
  • Caesar
  • Pompey
  • Marc Antony

Republicans should keep Scipio like in vanilla, possibly add some from the first punic war if you want (Marcus Atilius Regulus as a navy focused hero ?)

I saw on a old thread that you planed on triumvirate  romans to have three heroes at time, does that still hold up ?

Republican buildings will need to be reworked, some of them are quite imperial/triumvriate looking (See CC).

Triumvirate could have Evocati Champion, i  like the way they are portrayed in EB2 (Avoding the overly standardized look, often seen i depictions of legionnaires)

The Macedonians may be currently overpowered, but they're being used as a conceptual civ for now. Many of the concepts will be applied to other civs in the coming weeks and months.

Will Scythians heroes upgrade to a mounted version ?

Or will all their heroes start out mounted as a civ feature ?

Looking good.

How about a later Macedonian faction (elephants, Lysimachus, Altar at Pergamon)? Unless the Epirotes have the exact same units.

Edit: Regarding the Argyraspides, suggest that they should be unlocked if there are Mauryas, Successor (Ptolemy, Seleucid, Epirotes, etc.), or Roman factions present since they were formed as veteran hypaspists when they invaded India.

As @wowgetoffyourcellphone said in the opening post, all other factions will follow suit.

Would suggest if some heroes use elephants or chariots, their mounts would be unlocked when they live, and the heroes can garrison them (with a few units that can join in).

He considered a Pergamene faction in another thread.

That's for the main game; this discussion is for the Delenda Est mod, so a different system in place. There could be an integrated Successor faction with differing heroes (Edit: and technology), but probably the same units and structures and with some minor alterations in between.

Edit: @wowgetoffyourcellphone: the armor textures of Philip and Alexander on foot and mounted do not match with each other, are these intended or will be re-textured from one to the other in the future? Same with the Craterus' helmet using different models.

Perhaps Demetrius should have the iron armor, and Craterus the bronze scale one ?

From Plutarch's lives:

Quote

For his use in this war there were brought to Demetrius from Cyprus two iron coats of mail, each of which weighed only forty pounds. Wishing to show their strength and power of resistance, Zoilus their maker gave orders that a catapult's missile should be shot at one of them from a distance of twenty paces, and in the place where it struck the iron remained intact, although it did get a faint scratch, such as might be made by a graver.  This coat of mail Demetrius wore himself; the other was worn by Alcimus the Epeirot, the sturdiest and most warlike of all the men under him, and the only one whose suit of armour weighed a hundred pounds (the rest used suits of fifty pounds weight); he fell in battle at Rhodes near the theatre.

Mail in this translation is a old fashioned term for armor (Not chainmail).

Philip's cuirass matches well with his helmet.

You know, classical-era soldiers equipped with a thureos may be considered anachronistic. They are more suited to a later Macedonian faction such as the Antigonids.

Suggest that the black cloaks and Odrysians replace their shields with peltai? In the same manner, the thorakites with hypaspist swordsmen or the related. Consider it a temporary measure until some kind of weapon-switching system is in place.
