Question about Multiplayer Lobby

Hello,

Really appreciate the wonderful work you guys have done!

I'm just wondering, is there a way I can create my own dedicated multiplayer lobby? How does the current one work?

I do work with a couple of youth groups that my daughter is involved with and we're always looking for something like this where we can just keep access within our own group, mainly because we have some pretty paranoid parents.

I've seen some threads about a dedicated server and I'm wondering what the current state of that is as well. I've looked around but my best google-fu hasn't yielded a lot of fruit, so any info would be appreciated. For me the ideal would be for players to be able to join the lobby, and from there join existing games or start new ones, but I could lock down access to it by ip address, etc. Paranoid parents, etc.

I can do all that on the router/firewall side, but I don't know how I would go about creating my own lobby. Is that even possible currently?

Many thanks for helping this n00b better understand!

Lobby setup instructions are here: http://trac.wildfiregames.com/browser/ps/trunk/source/tools/XpartaMuPP/README. You have to install ejabberd (XMPP server) and 0ad lobby bot (XpartaMuPP). Then you can point 0ad to your own lobby via settings in the 'lobby' section of the config (see http://trac.wildfiregames.com/browser/ps/trunk/binaries/data/config/default.cfg and http://trac.wildfiregames.com/wiki/Manual_Settings).

The dedicated server is in progress, you can see the current state and track the updates here: http://trac.wildfiregames.com/ticket/3556
