The other style is this. For nomads, like Huns. This animation is quickly I don't know if we can do it so quickly or mod

That is called Mongol style Lion notice that the arrow is also on the wrong side of the bow if you are more familiar with Mediterranean style(drawing with fingers) the string is drawn back with the thumb so there is torsion on the string pushing the arrow against the bow,if it was on the other side the arrow would not stay on the shelf ;)

Enjoy the Choice :)

Incredible, 7 arrows in 17 seconds. That's amazing. Starting from &t=2m01s. Will add the videos as reference (at least with link to be able to link directly into the 2m01s of video 2 where it [the Mongol style?] starts.)

I looked through some of the textures and have a couple of minor gripes regarding accuracy and wonder if its worth changing.

Firstly the writings. Currently the characters are in simplified Chinese, which didn't exist until 1956. For the sake of historical accuracy they should be in traditional Characters or more precisely Clerical Script which was the from of writing at the time. They should look like this:

li.jpg

Secondly this is maybe nitpicking a bit but I find the roofs really off. The tiles don't look very Chinese at all.

I'm also not a fan of how doors on houses look, they are shaped just like shields :/

Of course none of the issues will break the game but I just thought to throw it out there.

Valid point, that's unbearable.

We can change it if desired, but to what should we change it? I'm a bit lost with that, but historical accuracy is a priority thus I'm willing to resolve the issues.

We can change it by time. Once we get into modeling your Tang concepts, we can change the Han Dynasty's houses' doors too if you like. (though we don't have the original source files but it's doable with COLLADA too if we pay attention to prop points - I think I forgot to pay attention for the Aristeia release.)

@Hephaestion

Sorry I forgot to specify :P for the roof I meant the texture. The roof tiles look all flat and square and Chinese tiles just don't look like that.

for example:

temple/palace/other important buildings

traditional_chinese_roof_gr.jpg

common houses

Also don't mean to be a pain but the sabres on the swordsmen unit looks wrong as well. The current swords they wield are post Ming Dynasty style. During the Han they didn't have curved scimitar shaped swords, they were straight with a single edge like these:

Thanks for the information. That will allow us to fix it.

I always wonder how they manage to build such complicated buildings (though they look interesting).

For textures there we might get to some improvements. If nothing helps, then we add basic geometry for the roof tiles.

@stanislas69: They are basically shaped exactly like the shields, which makes them look very weird.

Found a nice reference for the gate, we can base it on this charcoal rubbing of a Han wall mural:

AbriebUReliefTurm_DonghanTN.JPG

The film Red Cliff probably used it too:

Hope that helps!

  • 1 month later...

Updated the mod info file for Rise of The East.

@LeDruide: Has the roof still to be changed or isn't our new roofset rather for the advanced houses + decorated buildings like temples?

@stanislas: You surprised me. That you edited xml and committed art - shows indeed that you are a full artist. Thanks for adding AO maps for the houses. :) you are not only your own master, but also of me, the old long-bearded.
