  1. Actually, I don't think they've changed all that much - in terms of graphics we still don't require any features that aren't available on GeForce 3 (with the only exception being that the shiny water is limited to GF6/7 (I think)); and performance is acceptable for me on a 128MB GF4 even with self-shadowing enabled (which seems to really hurt performance on GF4s in any game), though we still haven't spent much time optimising our graphics code. The suggested CPU and RAM in the FAQ may be further off if you want the game to play smoothly, but it's impossible to tell with any accuracy until we've got the game feature-complete and optimised.

Not sure if asking this will help now until you are more certain. Currently I have an IBM (i.e. non-gaming video card) Intel GMA950 256Mb video card, will this help my plight much?

  2. *Is Multiplayer going to be available in the 1st build ?

*About Blanceing Issues , will the Tester's be required to share there view's on Unit Balance's?

*What are the Minimum Requirement's (what time commitment, previous testing background etc.etc.) to be applicable to become a tester for 0 A.D?

*How many Tester's are you going to need for the 1st build ? (a approx number will do)

Adding onto this...have the minumum hardware requirements changed much since you posted your faq?

  3. This deals more with the skirmish games than scenario ones.

Basically to create an AI that incorporates random strategies, rather than always following a predefined strategy (I'm unsure of any RTS incorporating this type of randomness).

I know this is well implemented on the modified Warcraft 3 AI called AMAI (or Advanced Melee Artificial Intelligence). Basically the creators of this project defined numerous strategies for each of the races (along with the actual improving of the core AI), thus always keeping the player guessing. And also allowing for easy editing of these strategies (very little programming experience required).

The idea is to create a core AI that can handle situations well etc. and then to create multiple strategies for added replayability.

  4. Officially 0 A.D. will feature the following:

    • FREEWARE!

    • Historically accurate

    • 6 unique civilisations

    • Seasons and weather

    • Provinces and territories

    • Realistic maps/terrain

    • Realistic naval warfare

    • Comprehensive editor

    • Several multiplayer modes

    This we all know...

But I wanted to know if there is any teaser documentation on the features that will be implimented in 0 A.D. simply to whet our appetites.

I know we get the teaser screenshot now and then, but how about some features?

This is basically the same idea (but nowhere near as long) as the pre-release info Civilization 4 had.

  5. I dont know about after France -> Australia, more like after France -> England.

Did you hear about the oil facility that went up like a nuke due to probable Muslim terrorism?

I have family right where that explosion took place. About 20 minutes after the explosion my uncle called and told us about it...natural assumption is that it was a terrorist attack.

However after contemplating it further, I truly believe it to be an accident. Given the last spait of terrorist attacks, all where done during rush hour or busy times during the day. This explosion took place on Sunday morning.

  6. Open source can work at times...my primary example is Wesnoth. However this game is much "simpler" than 0 A.D. Hence should someone drop out along the way, it can be easily picked by another community member.

However due to 0 A.D.'s complexity and structure, you need a sound team to maintain the project.

  7. 12.gif Actually makes me want to go buy a XBOX...but no.

The ad was not determined suitable for broadcasting.

The ad is promoting make-believe guns and you will get those out there that will take things too far. Last week we had a hostage drama for over 5 hours and the culprit was using a toy gun.

  8. Was shown this site a while back. Interesting reading for during those lunch breaks or when the day is dragging.

My only concern is that I *think* the site is hacked or something because at times I kept being redirected to another site.

    Anyhoo...Carpe Noctem

Also I have added in a link to Wesnoth's off-topic forum. Found an interesting story there to read...beware, it does take some time to read (20 - 30 minutes).

    Short Story

  9. But Windows Firewall also runs in the background. Any service, OS component or not, pretty much has to run in the background.

My bad ;) forgot about checking with services.msc

I suppose what I meant was that the resources the Windows Firewall consumes is less than that of commercial software...or am I mistaken about this too? :)

I used to always work with a third party firewall, however after reading around at many forums the general consensus was that the SP2 firewall is more than suitable for your basic needs.

  10. I have been keeping an eye on the AI development for sometime :banger:

And last, but not least, I am delighted we have someone in the community from Africa. I am sure that continent (Antarctica aside) is the least represented here in our community. It's nice to see us human beings coming together. :P

:) Never thought myself a representative of this continent (sound very official), but hey it's always been my home ;)

  11. My whole thing about the firewall is that it must always be running in the background i.e. taking up resources. Windows Firewall only blocks incoming traffic and that's all I need.

Scan everything that you download, so that it doens't have malware and you will be fine.

  12. eTrust is free for the first year IF you own Microsoft:

    eTrust EZ Antivirus - http://www.my-etrust.com/microsoft/

Also, Windows has started its own Antivirus and beefed up Firewall...it's in Beta now:

    http://www.windowsonecare.com/prodinfo/Default.aspx

I personally use AVAST as AVG always had problems updating with my network.

With regard to Firewalls, the last one I properly used with ZoneAlarm, however I've simply taken to only using the built-in Windows one.

At the end of the day your best defence is knowledge.

  13. I was one of the "lucky" ones to pre-order it.

Don't know if you heard but there were many problems associated with it:

    • Discs labels were swapped
    • Some English customers received a French tech-tree
    • Laptop graphics cards not compatible

Now the above two reasons I'm fine with, however the third really miffed me off. What happened was that Firaxis released such a buggy game that majority of laptop owners couldn't play it. I know laptops are not gaming machines, but this is a TBS game!

Anyway...after the release of patch 1.09 (a month later :) ) Laptop owners can now play the game.

However I still can't. When the pre-order special was going Firaxis had a mandatory list of system requirements, which I easily met on all accounts. Then STRAIGHT after their release they up the requirements!

All this has left a bitter taste in my mouth (also the money I forked out...live in South Africa, so delivery was quite hefty) and a game on my shelf which I can't play.
