  1. It's possible - tell Windows to share the drive and then mount it over the network ("Map Network Drive..."). I think I've done this in the past, though it may not work with all apps. Of course, since many programs remember which drive letter they were installed "from", you might run into the problem of the app trying to look for the CD on the mapped drive and refusing to run unless it finds it. :P

  2. Yes, the Windows login is a *big* hack, at least on 9x systems. (Might as well just say "Press 'Cancel' to log in now!") ;)

Being homeschooled, I happen to be the admin of our "school's" computer systems (:D), but I've been to some 'real' school computer labs occasionally - yuck. Either it's locked down so hard you can't even browse half the web (once I was forced to use some old version of Netscape Navigator and the AltaVista search engine to look for something online; the school firewall/proxy insisted that Google was a blocked site), or there's no security at all and 5000 IM programs, Flash games, IE exploits, and so on are bogging the (already slow) machines to a crawl. B)

  3. They use separate keyboards when you want to type in Japanese? I thought that they used something like SCIM.

Actually, I was just theorizing and grabbing a non-Latin character set out of thin air. :D Japanese probably wasn't the best choice for the example.

Rephrased: Being able to switch between various character sets on the keyboard display will be nice for anyone who needs that type of functionality. ;)

  4. I was on the site while that bug/error was in effect as well - you're right, it didn't let you actually buy it at the discounted price.

There was this rock climbing store that sold carbiners for 79.95, but the website said 7.95, so lots of people ordered them at the cheap price and actully got them!

Amazon has done pricing goofs like that before. I think once they sold a $300 mattress (or something like that) for like $30. It was posted in the "Hot Deals" section of the AnandTech forums and many people bought it (or two, or three) at that price before Amazon fixed it. I think they did honor the price and send the items to the people who bought them.

  5. I think the biggest boon for the full-size keyboard would be being able to switch between character sets without going out and buying a new keyboard to support something like Japanese characters.

Quick-launch keys with icons of the programs are nice too. ;) The keys don't look Photoshopped to me, but I suppose they could be.

  6. Yeah, the interrogation was great. Jack has a 'talent' for getting into someone's head and out-psyching them. ;) Did you notice he was using the wrong end of the knife when he had it up against Walt's eye? (at least it looked that way; if so, I'm sure that was intentional - he wasn't actually going to cut his eye out, just mess with his mind)

Did you see the teaser for next week's episode? Looks intense, to say the least. I wonder who it is who is getting up from behind the bed? My theory is that it's that assassin/mercenary that tried to kill Palmer in season 2 and was pardoned in season 4 -- can't remember her name, though.

  7. *WARNING*: This thread WILL contain spoilers! You've been warned! ;)

Anyone been watching 24? Wow, it certainly got off to an explosive start. It's too bad Palmer and Michelle were taken out - at least Tony's still alive. :D

I'm sure it'll keep getting bigger and bigger... the 24 writers have a way of doing that.

  8. Wow, that Dawn of Fantasy site is looking great. Keep up the good work!

I like the idea of having a DoF "embassy" here at Wildfire Games. 0 A.D. and DoF share quite a bit in common, and it's only fitting that we keep up with each others' progress.

    Great stuff! ;)

Edit: Moved this to the Gaming Discussion forum; 'tis more appropriate there methinks.

  9. I felt the same way: at times, it seemed like the story was 'hurried along' to be able to fit everything in. It wouldn't have bothered me for the movie to be longer (more time to develop the characters and story), but obviously they have to keep it short enough to hold people's attention. There's a whole lot worth of story in the book - less than you would guess from the thickness of the book itself - and I'm sure it was a challenge for the writers to make everything work. I was pleased with the outcome :P

  10. I saw this a bit ago, and laughed out loud. (I think it was linked to from Digg)

YOUR IP ADDRESS IS 67.11.195.46 AND HAS BEEN LOGGED.

Don't think you can't get caught. You are not anonymous.

As if ALL web software doesn't keep logs? :P

  11. Indiana Jones 4

    May 23, 2007

And it is rumored to be staring Ford again! :P

    ---------------------------------------------------

    Jurassic Park IV

Unknown release date, but sometime after Indiana Jones though

Indiana Jones wouldn't be the same without Ford - he simply has to star!

    acouple more.

    Apocalypto-2006

Hounddog- Not sure when that comes out

and Caroline- Not sure when that comes out

Apocalypto seems interesting - Mel is doing a "native language" movie again. (Just like The Passion was in Latin/Aramaic). The teaser trailer is here -> http://www.apple.com/trailers/touchstone/apocalypto/

  12. Sometimes I wonder if I'm out-of-the-ordinary because I frankly don't care much what I drive :P I may have dream computers, but not much in the way of a dream car.

Sure, I wouldn't mind driving something that looked nice (or 1337), but I'd also be perfectly happy with a generic white "thing with wheels".

Now, it's a different story entirely if you throw the science factor in, however: make it a hybrid or something that runs on hydrogen or ethanol (hmm, or maybe helium-3?), and I'll listen a bit longer. :P
