  1. Saw this a couple of days ago... Google is doing what they call the "Da Vinci Code Quest" - a daily puzzle-solving thingamajig that has some interesting prizes. (I'm slightly surprised that Google's doing a promotional deal for the movie, seeing as it's slightly controversial :))

Anyhow, the signup form is at http://www.google.com/davincicode, and the daily puzzles are put into your Google Personalized Homepage. So far there have been two puzzles. Both have been pretty easy, as expected, but methinks it will get a bit harder, knowing Google. :D (Anyone remember the massive Google challenge with a job interview as the prize? IIRC, it was very difficult)

  2. IMHO, it sort of seems like the origins of the text undermine it from the start: it was written by Gnostic (particularly the sect you mentioned) and was probably from the second century AD. If it contradicts the other Gospels (which it does), it would seem logical that the canonical Gospels hold more water because of the earlier date of authorship and the authors themselves (first-hand accounts).

So, in my opinion, it's an interesting discovery, and I'm interested to the see the documentary, but I don't think it does much to question the currently-accepted texts.

  3. Windows doesn't like to play with refresh rates lower than 60 Hz; the only time I've seen it possible was with a *really* old monitor (that supported interlacing, apparently) which Windows thought could go to 56 Hz.

I highly doubt that the monitor is actually running at 30 Hz. Some monitors have a section in the OSD to display the current "mode" (resolution and refresh rate) - that could tell you for sure.

  4. From OSx86 Project (and Digg, and everywhere else):

In what has to be one of the most earthshaking announcements the technology industry has seen in years, Apple today announced its Boot Camp system for dual booting OS X and Windows XP. From the Apple site:

More and more people are buying and loving Macs. To make this choice simply irresistible, Apple will include technology in the next major release of Mac OS X, Leopard, that lets you install and run the Windows XP operating system on your Mac. Called Boot Camp (for now), you can download a public beta today.

Boot Camp lets you install Windows XP without moving your Mac data, though you will need to bring your own copy to the table, as Apple Computer does not sell or support Microsoft Windows. Boot Camp will burn a CD of all the required drivers for Windows so you don't have to scrounge around the Internet looking for them.

 Wow, I didn't expect that. Now I *really* wish I had a Mac Mini to play with ;)

Does anyone here have an x86 Mac? (I know a couple of people have PPC Macs)

  5. Clasical, as in epic battle scores ;)

Precisely. :D I have a hard time explaining this (sometimes) to people who ask me "What type of music do you like?" I'll usually say something like "orchestral, classical" or "movie soundtracks", and maybe mention John Williams, but they've usually glazed over by that point.

  6. Really? Is she in an episode that's already aired, or one that's coming up?

Wow, that shocker at the end of episode 14 ("Who sold you the information?" "Audrey Raines") seemed like deja vu from season 1 -- intentionally most likely? We've (the 24 watchers in this house) been discussing it over here and are thinking that Audrey is more likely to be framed than actually a mole. We'll see

Why'd they kill Tony!? Noo! ;)

  7. I tried it out, but it doesn't have much of the types of music I like to listen to (orchestral, film soundtracks). I can imagine it'd be great for someone who likes hip-hop/pop/rock music, though :P
