  1. Yes anyone remember someone called Boudicca? :D She could kill folks, at least her men did.

But she's "darnito memoriae" in Rome, so don't talk about her, or do it silently when no one can hear the conversation B)

Besides, I have to admit that they all look pretty sweet, especially the Celt and Iberian ones :)

  2. No offense or anything, because my car is 10 years old, but are all European cars so bloody ugly? I hope not. :D

Hmm, taste seems to differ here - I personally prefer the European cars over others any time, but that might also be due to the fact that I grew up in a Volkswagen family - we've had VW Passats ever since I was born... it must have been at least four generations of cars already. And the newer Passats are quite powerful, too - my fathers one with a 130 PS Diesel engine can do 200 km/h on the highway with no problems :)

  3. I'm using XPlanet, comes with mandy by default. Did several changes based on some info I've found, can't remember where though.

    If you've installed it:

In KDE left-click your desktop, congifure desktop

    For background choose "no background"

    Go to advanced options

Then at the top there's a checkbox to use a program, click it

Select xplanet and then click edit (or change)

    Use these parameters:

    Command: xplanet --num_times 1 --geometry %xx%y --output %f.jpg --projection merc --latitude -5 && mv %f.jpg %f

    Example command: xplanet --num_times 1 --geometry %xx%y --output %f.jpg --projection merc --latitude -5 && mv %f.jpg %f

For the clouds I've downloaded a perl script, can't remember where though. With a cron you can let it download a new cloud image every x hours.

It works on Windows, too - just configured it yesterday, there's quite a good description on its website (http://xplanet.sourceforge.net/), and I think it's one of the coolest wallpapers I've ever seen (plus, I can now visually see which estimated time it is at different places on the world :)).

  4. To install the update only, there should be a little blue symbol that appears in the upper-right side of your firefox browser underneath the close menu bar option. If you click on that, it will check for updates and install them automatically at your command.

Though that only works on Windows, as I've read on spreadfirefox.com... it doesn't matter, though, since you can simply install the new version over the old (or remove the old first, FF keeps its profiles, extensions and plugins if you answer "no" to the question wheter it should delete all data during the uninstall).

  5. Usually, I'm coming home, putting my schoolbag into a corner of my room, boot my PC and check email, instant messenger and various sites of interest (spiegel.de, heise.de - those are German news portals), then it differs: Some days, I'm getting something to eat (not that often, since I usually return home during the late afternoon), or I read the newspaper or I do some more random surfing. After that, I'm thinking about getting started on my homework, and one or two hours later, I even manage to really get started on it. Usually, it keeps me busy until late at night and when I'm done, I'm going to bed at once.

  6. @Caesar89 - Welcome dude! :) *dances at the fact that RVF is now biggest on board* hehe

Welcome, comrade. The Empire is delighted to see that another illustrous person has decided to join it's ranks and proudly announces that its forces are now not only superior to the other faction's in discipline and valor but also in numbers.

Oh, and just to mention it - the legions are preparing their new campaign already, since the military season starts again within some months. All those barbarian states which don't deserve to be called "empires" at all should pray to their strange gods that the wrath of Rome will not be directed towards them (i.e., you better shouldn't provoke the RVF :)).

  7. Here's my latest mandrake desktop. The wallpaper updates the clouds location each 3 hours and the night shadows every 30 mins. You can also the weather here :)

    http://www.surfmusic.be/images/mandesk2.png

Wow, where do you get the images for those automatical updates from? I'd love to have something like that on my desktop - in fact, I've been searching for earth pictures like this for some time already, but didn't find anything remotely as great as this one (I didn't search too intensively, though :)).

  8. We have a chance to stabilize, I suppose.  However, the Kyoto Protocol that was supposed to limit this sort of pollution was rejected by the two greatest gross polluters,  the U.S. and China.  It is possible, but entirely improbable, unless both nations have a change in attitudes.

Cited from my geography schoolbook (newest press, printed in 2004):

    volume of CO2-emissions by country:

    USA: 5478.1 mil. t

    Russia: 1495.9 mil. t

    EU: 3332.8 mil. t

    Japan: 1230.8 mil. t

    Canada: 529.4 mil. t

    Australia: 338.0 mil. t

Another interesting fact is that Europe has already nearly achieved its Kyoto-goals, having reduced the emissions by a large percentage already...

  9. ... the EU doesn't give a darn about space (and know nothing about it anyway), etc ...

Ehhh - I won't call the "Huygens" mission, the "Ariane V" launch rocket, the GALILEO GPS system and the other successes which the ESA reached during the past months "not a darn"... still, I can see that Europe is still behind the US in terms of space exploration, but IMO, we're making it up on a rapid rate.

  10. I'm sure there are some exotic ways of getting around the Firefox/Mozilla pop-up blocking code, but that doesn't really bother me. I have 90% less popups using FF compared to IE, so the occasional one isn't a big deal.

Amen to that. I've been haunted by popups when I still used IE, and Firefox was a great relief... I don't care about one or two, and I also guess that there will always be some "concept holes" which make it possible to get around the blocker in theory (except you totally disable popups, but that'd make some websites unusable).

  11. In fact, I think the Ipod has gotten kind of a "status symbol" - there's much better music players for less money already, but people simply don't buy them, because the Ipod is "so cool"... I can see the point, and I consider the Ipod to be pretty, too, but that won't make me spend that much money on it if I can get the same or more for less B)

  12. Yeah but think of the complete retards... though I suppose they won't know that IE is updateable (on the very, very, very, very (I could go on for days) rare occasion)

Well, they'll have to stay with the old IE then... I guess they won't see a difference anyway - and if they don't know how to use Windows Update, they won't be able to install or use Firefox, either.

  13. Hier ist eine Papier für meine Deutsche Fach:

How did I do? Can you please point out mistakes?

You did quite good, but there's still some flaws in it - as you asked me, I'll point them out (but I don't have much time to explain them in detail), so here's a corrected version with minimal explanations:

In Frankfurt haben wir nicht alles gemacht (I suppose you meant "we didn't do everything, really" - you've got to use this kind of negation there), aber wir haben viel gemacht.

Wir haben gute Schokolade, viel sehr gute Schokolade (I don't understand what you're trying to express here!). Dann habe ich eine Uhr gekauft. Sie gefällt mir.

Hier ist alles gut or better: Alles Gute (formal gretting),

            Daniel Dvorjak

Don't hesistate to ask if you'd like the get some particular point explained - I just don't have enough time to write explanations for every one.

  14. Hmm, I don't think it's quiet in here - just got seven pages (yes, *seven*) of topics by using the "View New Posts" link, and I've only been away for two or three days - but sure, a good part of these is in the private forums, where there's lots of things going on ;)

Also, the HOI topics seem to be pretty busy again, as well.

Ah, btw, welcome back, Tim ;) I know this Diablo addiction - two of my friends suffered from it back 6 months - fortunately, I got spared from it so far, as I've never player Diablo extensively B)

  15. Ugh, looking at that picture makes me estimate that this "laptop" seems to be very heavy and "thick" (talking about its height) - not exactly what Í'd expect from a mobile device... of course, it's not that expensive, but I prefer to pay some more money and get a less heavy thing (since I need a laptop for taking it with me).

Also, keep away from Celeron processors in laptops! One of my school's computer departments laptops (which I did use for presentations some time before I got my own laptop) has this kind of CPU, and it's not only slower than any Pentium M (Centrino), but also makes the whole thing be much larger due to the big cooler and fan installation and makes the battery last only 1.5-2 hours (as compared to 5-6 hours for my Pentium M).

I really can't believe how thick this thing in the advertisment seems to be - keeping in mind that the companies tend to make their photos in a way that makes the laptops appear thinner than they are, I estimate that it's got almost twice the height of any decent Centrino, which you can get from €800-900 in Germany already.

Read: Don't buy this thing or you'll regret it B)
