I want to test if everything works, but I can't get the mod to show up in the mod selection menu. It requires A27, right? I tried it on the release candidate, but it didn't work.

Here is what I did: I downloaded the main folder and put it into the mods folder. Inside this folder there is the mod.json and the "simulation" folder which leads to all the xml files. What am I doing wrong?

This might sound stupid but did you enable the mod?

  2. So I'm working on animals and there's a flaming pig. I feel like theirs a historical refrence there. What is it?

Also what are peoples thoughts about easter eggs? Does anyone want a suspific joke or reference put in the encylopedia? It doesn't have to be funny It could be remembering someone who did a lot for 0 A.D.

  3. So I have done the trees and I figured to make a matching pair encyclopedia entries need to be done for both stone and metal(ore?) I can go into the general basics of why stone and metal were important and in general how they were mined, but I'm wondering if anyone else has any ideas.

Also, I'd like to know what is ore/ metal? Is it a specific metal, or is it metal in general? And is supposed to be valuable metal like gold or useful metal like iron?

berries_04 duplicates specific name. Also the sentence "These berries have not ripened until autumn." Doesn't add anything meaningful (spec name is Berries after all), so I'd drop it and just inherit the parent.

About formatting, here an example of what I mean:

        <History>
Since ancient times, wild berries have been a viable source of food.
While caution had to be taken so that poisonous fruit were not
gathered, the berries, whether they be strawberries, raspberries, or
blackberries, were one of the few sources of sweetness. Not limited to
consumption whilst fresh, berries could be dried or squashed and their
          juice fermented.
        </History>

If you need multiple paragraphs and maybe other markup you can file bugs. Images should be possible to implement.

It's an autumn berry, so I wanted to add the bit.

Also, in line imaging formatting (like itallics and stuff) paragraphs indentation, justification and comments for translators are things we're going to need. You mean to say if I open tickets in the bug tracker, people would work on them? I have 0 knowledge of any the programming stuff so I'd be no help.

This is true, but as per my above post, French have McDonald's.

Let's perhaps reframe it this way.  It goes without saying that philosophy was extremely important in Athens, so in a hypothetical world, let's say that an academy building is introduced to represent that.  Ah, but Aristotle mentored Alexander the Great, so surely Academies should be buildable for them also.  I am not doubting the fact that Macedonians built theatres, in fact the models used to represent theatres are entirely unlike the hillside amphitheatres Athenians would have sat at to watch a play of Sophocles.  The point I am contending is that theatres are not core to Macedonian identity, and in a game in which Hellenic/Hellenistic factions are ubiquitous, giving these factions differentiation is helpful.

In short, there are obvious reasons for Sparta to not have a theatre.  For Macedonia it is a bit more of a mixed bag, but I think it would be entirely appropriate to remove it.  Its presence is an artefact of when all Hellenic factions were a single one.

If people want to get rid of other theaters, it's fine (just Sparta should be the first to lose it.) Actually if it was an Athens only building it could become a bit more useful than an eye candy building to get more area. Like maybe play wars?

What do ppl think about mercenary champions? Should they be a thing, or should all champions stick to the food/wood/metal cost profile?

It's a good idea, it'd be a lot of metal but If there's a cool historical mercenary,

  7. So I think this is a very touchy subject. I like to think we should be historically accurate, but then again I would be pretty annoyed and probably stop playing if some of the women went around topless even if there is a historical precedent and in some cultures it is conceivable that it was not taboo (I remember seeing that some African tribes even now women go topless.)

@vajei , which civs do you think are bad? I think Mauryan and the non ptolmy Egyptians have it.(Sorry I don't remeber the name)

I'm going to pick on the Mauryans for a moment because I have some thoughts about this. First, do we have proof that Mauryan women wore than and not something more modest? I mean, there are sources to say Spartan women only wore skirts, and we didn't do that. I find it difficult to believe that statistically Mauryan women wore that everywhere.

However, gatherers are more believable than the champions because-- armor? You'd think they would try at least some. (Of course someone could say that the Mauryan were not an armor like civilization, and I'd say perhaps, but still unless they were bezerkers one would think they'd try at least a padded something.

Also, I'd love to see the sources of the Mauryan female champions, partly because I'm not buying their outfit and partly because I want to know more about them.

The parent attribute for the Entity element specifies where to inherit from all that isn't explicitly stated in the current template. So yes, my suggestion is to create a berries template inheriting fruit and then inheriting the generic berries one in berries_XX templates. It probably should have been done already but requiring translators to translate the same over and over pushes it past the acceptable limit in my view.

OK, and I assume I can put a berry template in the same place as the fruit default template? I think I can figure everything else out.

  9. Why does Sparta has a theater? Sparta is set after the lycurgan reforms and unless I'm missing some historical evidence they wouldn't have theaters.

I think the theater should be removed and to compensate the Spartans special barracks should get another upgrade.

I know this could be getting in part of gameplay discussion, but I'm more wondering about the history part.

Just a quick look at pull 11, to much duplication, probably should introduce template_gaia_berries and inherit from it in berries_xx.

Umm what does this mean? That I should make a template and inherit stuff from that? I don't know how to do that. Or where you put it. If you tell me where and how I can do it, but you could also create your own PR. It's a smart idea though.

Also xml is supposed to allow you to format your text without having an effect on the rendered result. So I'd suggest you split your one liners at around the 80 chars boundary.

@hyperion I have no idea what you said there.

About grapes, I'd expected a reference to Bacchus/Dionysus.

Also, I could reference Shezmu or other ditties related to wine.  But I see your point. Baccus was pretty big with wine.  However, sort of rewriting the article to talk about the religious significance of wine, but if you have any ideas...

I'll write articles for structures even if they aren't in the skirmish part of the game, because I'm sure those buildings would be useful when it comes to campaigns.

  11. Also, could anyone please tell me in Sparta's units, what's a Range a Stoa a tower_bolt, and gerosia? And why they aren't in the game? Or walls there are no walls in the game, but they're in the files, why?

Also, what do I say about the theater because Sparta would not have a theater. Actually, could we remove Sparta's theater? They wouldn't have one.

  12. So this isn't a cheat unit but more of an Easter egg civ. What if you had a civ of the republic from Plato's republic? You'd have to either put a cheat code in at the main screen or (and I like this idea better) once the game has campaigns, add a small campaign about them after you finish all the Hellenistic campaigns on hard.

(Also It'll be kind of fun writing encyclopedia entries for cheat units.)

  13. So now I have a PR for the fruit and all the 0 A.D. treasures.

    https://github.com/TheShadowOfHassen/0-ad-history-encyclopedia-mod/pull/11

    https://github.com/TheShadowOfHassen/0-ad-history-encyclopedia-mod/pull/10

It'd be great if someone from the dev team could look over the treasures and make certain I conveyed what the treasures are supposed to be. @wowgetoffyourcellphone you were a developer for a while, could you look at the treasure, or could you tell me who to ask?

  14. Vantha's done some incredible work on a PR for seige engines. People can check it out if just to read the cool stuff.

Also, I have the first of many animal PRs. I decided to split them up so that if other people want to do some they can. No history is required.
