    One interesting note here is regarding one of the rarely mentioned, yet one of the most difficult periods in Ptolemaic history, namely the Great Revolt of Thebes, during which a short lived native Upper Egyptian Dynasty ruled Egypt from Aswan (close to the border with Lower Nubia) to Asyut (Middle Egypt), for almost 20 years, from 205 BC to 186 BC. The first of 2 Upper Egyptian pharaohs during this period, Horwennefer reconquered Upper Egypt from the Ptolemies with Kushite military support.

    @Sundiata, That is true, most of African history is in the dark. Another perfect example is Mali's back to back to back victory against the Portuguese Empire on sea(West African Coast). For all I know Portugal and Spain had some of the best navies back then but even this brilliant knowledge of history doesn't exist in "reliable" books.

    has been replaced by 2 dedicated Nile boats in Alpha 24.

    Are these Nile boats similar to Medium warships or even better? Will they be able to carry siege engines? Kush doesn't field artillery yet thus, her forces rely on ships that can deploy siege towers, elephants, B. rams etc to increase its military projection abroad. I hope that mechanism still exists because the other civilizations undoubtedly have stronger navies but the "siege craft carrier" ability of the Ptolmaic ship really quenched some stress.

    I've actually been researching the topic of gunpowder artillery among precolonial subsaharan African states, and cannons among native states of the Guinea Coast from Sierra Leone to Nigeria were indeed surprisingly widespread

    Same here. Ever since I saw their war vessels I've been digging in for more. But I'm shocked however that the bigger West and Central African empires didn't adopt artillery on a large scale similar to the smaller tribes or groups. I've not heard of the Ashanti Empire bringing cannons to the field but I do remember one of their kings signed a deal with the Dutch where they supplied slaves to be imported to the Dutch army in Asia in exchange for some number of cannons.

    Anyway, Kushite and sub Saharan ancient navies are yet to be properly studied and evaluated. But I remember from the translation of Piye's victory stela that the King was impatient and he commanded the Navy himself forming and leading a battle formation on sea. Other translations reveal Kushite ships vs Egyptian ships on the Nile "that were filled with all kinds of weapons of war". At the end of the war the Kushite king stated to have taken many many warships in Egypt. Kushite engineers even built causeways to allow their ships to encircle the Egyptian stronghold. These translations reveal a very sophisticated navy at the time, at least, on standard with those of the Mediterranean and Asia.

  2. @Sundiata, allow me to go off topic but do you have any book source that talks about the Naval warships of Kush? I heard they got some Ptolmey ships and employed it as part of their fleet (as seen in the game) but can you share a source? Ancient African civilizations seem to be lacking in information about their naval prowess despite the abundance of larger rivers and waters. I was shocked to see pre colonial West African ships armed with as many as 20 swivel canons and additional self propelled artillery. I have seen the images of the Kushite boats and crafts you shared but if you know any book that talks about the ships Kushites used; especially their warships or the Ptolmey's ships they obtained, please share. I however, read about Piye's 2 or 3 sea battles against Egypt (one where he arranged a battle formation for all his ships).

    if you think some civilization is weaker, start to think at new games features, a new unit to give a strenght in a domain for example. A hero, a building, a new idea in a tech or building tree can give power to a civilisation

    I'm not sure about the upcoming update but new game features might arrive sometime in the future, let's hope so. However in my opinion, some civs should have all their ground units ranked. For instance, some civ archers should be better than others, some civ Calvary should be better, some war elephants should be better trained, some cavalry and chariots units should be faster or heavier than others, some civ infantry units such as spearmen should be more tactical than others. It could go like; Romans have aggressive sieges, Kushites have +? accurate archers, Mauryans the Elephants, Gauls have land superiority, etc. I'm not implying that the civs mentioned earlier have such tactical traits, I just want to give an example for better comprehension. It seems there are civs that are too strong gaping the others at light speed. Every civ must have a trait that makes it "strongest" among other civ units. Also, I believe that "artillery" didn't arrive at our doorsteps from the Greeks and that it was of practice elsewhere before.

  4. @Sundiatadarn, I made a huge mistake. Really sorry. But either way, is possible that was(or not) the inspiration for the Kushite ram. Either way, playing as Kush is really hard when countering battering rams. However if @Alexandermbhad the time, it will be helpful, if the Kushite rams could be modeled on the Egyptian ones. But @Sundiata does Kush have a Chariot unit? Or is only limited to their heroes?

  5. @NescioHere is a depiction of a Kushite battle ram during Piye's siege in Egyptian cities. image.png.0500d4f9b487645bb884345561af0750.png

    Is there a way to get this added to Kushite military in the upcoming  alpha 24 update? To me their battering ram looks similar to the in game rams used by the Greeks. Perhaps we can get Kush something similar just like we did with the siege tower.

    I think something like this is in-game. We can simply give the Kushites one too.

  6. @jesper I think there are mods for the Chinese, Mongols and Byzantine. Don't know about the rest tho. However, if any of the civilizations listed could be added to the A-25 update, I believe the most likely choice will be the Chinese. There is enough historical information about this civilization and they fall within the timeframe of 0.AD. I'm sure someone is working on adding the Chinese sometime in the future.

    Kush was an iron age civilization no doubt.

    Also @Sundiata, what about the Kushite battering rams. They were similar to the Assyrian but not so large. However, they did use battering rams and it was effective as seen in the damage of Helliopolis' walls. Please add the battering rams. Kush's military equipment are too low compared to the other game options.

  8. The Battering Ram was used in Kush and it was effective as well. In the Piankhi stelae, passage 838;

    Then they fought against Tetehen, great in might. They found it filled with soldiers, with every valiant man of the Northland. Then the battering-ram was employed against it, its wall was overthrown, and a great slaughter was made among them. of unknown number; also the son of the chief of Me, Tefnakhte. Then they sent to his majesty concerning it, (but) his heart was not satisfied therewith.

    The Battering Ram really being added to Kushite infantry plus the chariots and co will really get Kush a Champaign in the bouquet.

  9. @Sundiata @Nescio, is awesome to see such hard work in getting at least; a Kushite champion Chariot as well as the battle axe unit. It will be a great addition to the elephants as well as the seige tower. When is Alpha 24 update tho? Can't wait.

     Also, in = Robert Morley's book of "Historical dictionary of ancient  Egyptian warfare." Rowman & Littlefield. Date=2003. Page 26.

    ISBN=0-8108-4862-7

    The writer stated how many Egyptian relief point to a possibility that chariots were manufactured in Kush since they exported a lot as tribute or so to Egypt. How did they export so much like that? Will only make sense if they produced it themselves. I remember somewhere in the Bible, a reference was made about Kush " the one who fields thousands of chariots into battle" or so. I'll search for more sources.

  10. @Sundiata, it would have been dope if the Kushites had proper artillery. In one source, there was the description of a machine thrower of stones used in battle by the Kushites. Also, Kush did employ battle rams as seen in their siege if Hermiopolis. I want to understand why Kushite units lack war chariots when they did have.
