  1. the base game... the game WFG releases shouldn't have these types of features because it doesn't lend well for balance. But this is an easy addition with a mod. I've already visualized the mod so it's probably a matter of a day worth of work.

  2. yea, this looks awesome especially because of the fact that the game is hardly what you'd call done. You could already say it's between AOM/AOE3 quality which is really good for indie developers as we are. I don't think we can reach AOE3 quality by the game's release, but I think we can definately catch up after the first game is out :).

  3. you can't disprove the bible because it doesn't follow our rules of science... so, we are supposed to either adopt their ideals or ignore them :).

To be honest, I believe the bible is a series of old novels from writers with good imagination and gullible writers recording rumors. I mean seriously... If there was in fact a mary and joseph, I'd sooner believe Joseph and Mary were sexually curious and Joseph didn't make good use of the pull out method. So, They came out with a crazy story about how it's god's baby and she's a pregnant virgin. Then the rumors spread and if you ever played Telephone, you'd see how a simple story can turn into a whole other thing with just a few people. Imagine hundreds/thousands of people talking about something like that, it's bound to get details added such as a big bright star during the birth of Jesus. Mwahahahahaha.

  4. You can't prove or disprove god and you can't use science or religion to form an elaborate case for either side. Science is our understanding of the universe by obervation. It may or may not be true, but if the shoe fits? While Religion is a theory of our relationship with the universe which is immaterial. It's an idea rather than an observation. You can disprove science because it's being observed and you can lend your observations to disprove it, but you can't disprove religion because the whole basis of disproving ideas is to look for vulnerabilities in them. There are no vulnerabilities in religion because there is no observation involved.

So, instead of making a case for either side, I'll just make it very simple for you. You're wasting your time :).

  5. Javascript is very different and will never look like AOK, but I'm very understanding of the ease of use issue. I don't know AI and never scripted AI although I plan on teaching myself so I can contribute to the AI language for 0ad. So far, RMS has been progressing well and I'm even close to first draft status :P. I can assure you anything I touch will be built to be easy to use without sacrificing power :).

  6. well aoe3 stepped up and reached a new level of graphics that RTS games must compete with and I think RTS will generally stay at that type of level graphically for at least 5 years with minimal improvements. AI and Gameplay seems to be the main focus RTS developers will concentrate on in the meantime. IMO, RTS games have generally slacked off when it comes to AI... I mean look at AOM... one guy created a better AI for free (BattleMachine) than the guys that made the game... they do an ok job, but it's never been the type of thing they'd spend much time on.

  7. To stay modest, Halo 2 is the best console FPS... I won't include PC since PC FPS are very religious to their mouse and keyboard gameplay and speedy maneuvers. It all comes down to preference, it's stupid to say a game sucks because you prefer counter-strike or whatever... I hate UT because of its crazy speed, but I won't go saying the game is overrated and sucks because who made it ;). I'm also one of those Microsoft is Evil guys but I'm not ignorant about it... Xbox 360 will offer the best online experience and graphically PS2 and 360 will be on the same playing field (read anandtech.com article to find out why) so the choice is obvious for me. Halo 2 is a great game and my gamertag is: xbconnect... if you want to lose (no way for u to beat me) add me to ur friends list :D.

  8. hey ur talking about me behind my back :(... of course, I'm buying aoe3... it's on my to-buy list along with xbox 360 :D. I made 3 popular custom scenarios in aok that everyone can't stop playing so let's see what I come up with for aoe3 ;).

  9. I haven't been so addicted to a game since... umm... halo 1. But now even more so. I've been hammering trying to go to the top spots in ranking online . The addiction is so bad, I had a nightmare about 1v1 gaming last night. I just woke up and said to myself "wtf" as I noticed I thought I was playing halo in my sleep lol. I'm currently in 74th place which is quite the accomplishment considering there are over 350,000 halo players online last I checked. I'm shooting for at least top 50 for today, and am hoping I can get much higher than that overall.

  10. Mozilla sprung off of netscape over 5 years ago. It's also not owned by AOL. Mozilla is a completely seperate entity. Netscape doesn't own Mozilla, so AOL owning Netscape has no effect as to what Mozilla does.

Supporting an Open source software is exactly what we should be doing.

  11. uh oh... a Mozilla fanboy has arrived! First, Mozilla will soon get out of beta. It's 1.0 Stable launch date is November 9. So, that beta cliche will get thrown out the window in about 2 weeks. It's pretty obvious they are targetting english speakers, and although you are right to mention the lack of language packs... this is more of an opinion than it is fact. This will not slow the adoption of Firefox, it will just slightly hinder it.

Curu... the reason IE is widely spread is not because of the amount of language support... It's because it comes with windows preinstalled. When I talk to an average user, they think IE is the internet. If one of them get on my PC, they wouldn't know how to use the internet because they are looking for that special e. How else do you see sites they may ask...

Now, they can't just wait. They need to take full advantage of the time while MS is out of the game. They had a good year just because of the popularity of the MS security issues and CERT recommending everyone use another browser. Longhorn won't be out until at least late 2006. Some say 2007. And it won't be a hit for at least 2008-2009 because it's not backwards-compatible with older windows versions. So, this gives Mozilla the chance to regain the market share that Netscape lost.

The misconception that designers must catch up to standards so sites aren't IE only isn't right. Mozilla can't wait until designers feel they should redesign their sites so it can be viewed in standard browsers. It's the other way around. Designers won't care about the other browsers until it matters. If 50% of their visitors use Firefox, they can't just have an IE-only website anymore. Maybe designers are just ignorant in this way... Who wants to change their old habits? :).

Firefox has started to make a difference mostly with designers and developers which you can notice with the 20% usage of Mozilla in w3schools.com. The NYTimes ad will extremely help the percentages directly and indirectly whether it be an average user or a "geek".

XUL is definately an exciting development platform to look out for. Currently, there isn't much use for it as a desktop application since it depends on a browser. But web-based applications can definately make use of it for countless ideas. The problem is... it's currently a waste of time because Mozilla isn't as widespread as it should be. If you want to know more about where XUL is going, read this: http://developers.slashdot.org/comments.pl...ad&cid=10618869

I, for one, will definately be all over XUL/Javascript when the XRE is released. If I can make kick @#$% applications that automatically work on Windows/Linux/Mac without having to learn a complex language such as Java, I'm all for it. If we wanted to, we can create WFG's multiplayer client using XUL so it can be used directly from the browser just like MSN Gaming Zone ;). I'm not saying we will, it's just an example hehe.
