  1. Also the important thing about using the histories is you can see where an idea came from originally, and how it changed to what it was when it was published. In some cases you can see where it would have gone if it WERE published. So this allows you to see the world in another dimension, which gives you more analytical power and allows you to make decisions where otherwise there would be little logic.

  2. If that is what you believe you should think twice of moving to Europe.

Just two things in response -

Firstly, I am not sure I would be moving to Europe.

Secondly, I am mostly anti religious, opressively orthodox state, not really anti-state in theory.

  3. Ferry Corsten's Mix or Tiesto's Mix (which has been remixed again several times)?

Both I would classify as trance. They're quite popular right now.

Alright I'll work on getting some space for these things.

  4. Personally I believe gun control in the modern age is less about defending oneself and preventing violence and much more about the role of the government and the role of the individual.

I think the real underlying argument here is on one hand a belief that a government cannot prevent an individual from owning/making a firearm, and on the other hand a belief that the government and the welfare of a larger collective is of greater importance than the particular interests of an individual.

Now in the modern age we can take it for granted I think that our government is as or more capable of protecting us than individuals themselves.

Whether this is a good thing or not, I won't talk about, because my views on the police state are something entirely.

I guess then I agree with European gun control laws, stricter licenses, etc. However, I don't think that this situation is 'ideal'.

Ideally, a society might own guns, but at the same time be enlightened enough to use them for simply recreational purposes. (and if you think that includes killing people, you are a sick person :axeman:)

However, we live in a pretty messed-up world and people will always use guns for terrible reasons. I think if gun control laws were strengthened, we would find that crime would go down a lot, however. Others have said that guns make killing people really easy, and I have to agree. People today are so lazy and used to instant gratification that it wouldn't be worth the "trouble".

But to respond to some comments others have made concerning America -

by no means am I the quintessential american patriot. In fact, I plan on becoming an expatriate as soon as I can :-/. But I do have to say that it is a strong part of the American character to retain individuality and separation from the state. Personally I am quite anti-state across the board in my beliefs, but in this case I suppose we must go back to the idea of the social contract - when man creates a government, he cedes some individuality for the sake of protection. The government in this case protects us from each other.

The media I find to be dangerously influential to the american people (and maybe even the world) With the great amount of gun violence in the media, it just reinforces the idea that guns are THE way to kill people. I think this is possibly one factor.

However, one thing we must be wary of, a slippery slope:

If the American government begins to control guns, it might make it easier for the american government to control things many europeans might shudder at, such as religious education, anti-abortion laws, anti-gay laws, etc.

Because as long as the moderate bulk of america is against liberal social politics, if it begins to favor government intervention then we start to have a socially repressed society.
