Have you tried any other hacks?

I have tried spawning many particles rapidly to try and create the illusion of a solid beam, the problem is at most speeds there's "gaps" between the particles and even then it looks like many small round particles and not a clean solid beam. I really want to try and recreate a solid and nearly instantaneous beam effect that has almost no travel time from the attacker to its target.

  2. Another question about a lower priority feature I asked about years ago, is there any way to properly implement a "laser beam" in the engine? There are quite a few units that are supposed to have what can be described as a laser beam attack and I've had to use less than ideal alternatives like a fireball.

This is, of course, not acceptable for a light-infantry-focused faction. Thus, Warriors - both basic and skull-upgraded - are now able to swim. That is, they can traverse deep water with a small penalty to moving speed. A hack was needed in UnitAI component to make the specific animations for idle, moving and attack states.

"don't mind us, we're just having a bath"

Little update - now I understand how to calculate the depth, so the swimming mode should be triggered correctly.

I have been hoping for this feature to be added to the engine for YEARS and turns out you did it with a simple UnitAI hack.  B)

  4. It was probably obvious that I've not been around there parts in awhile, and thanks to people posting news here in my absence... probably obvious that Hyrule Conquest sort of fizzled out and more or less was stopped. After taking a break for a few months I'm considering making an effort to try and continue sometime in the next few weeks.

In addition to the reasons mentioned in other posts (Burn out and fatigue, being dragged away by Star Fox Event Horizon), there have been other reasons that contributed to Hyrule Conquest fizzling out over the last several years: namely that I've not had any person skilled in creating components dedicate the time needed to finish the remaining features of this mod. While Exodarion and Askarus have done wonders in the past, both have more or less moved on to other ventures and I've been left with massive missing features that were planned still waiting to be done. If anyone here has the skill to implement any of the following features, please do not hesitate to contact me:

    - Multiple unit types in a single Battalion:  I suspect this is probably not too difficult, but at the moment our Battalion system can only include one type of unit per battalion. We need to be able to have multiple unit types in a single battalion for things like banner carriers, healers, and captains. In addition, I'd really like the ability to manually train things like Banner Carriers and Captains that appear with the battalion rather than from another building. Alternative, being able to "attach" something like a captain to a selected Battalion would work.

    - Replenishing Battalions: I would like to implement a feature where Battalions slowly replenish lost troops under certain specified conditions in their templates (Anytime, Within Territory, etc)

    - Enable Swimming Animations: A feature I have long requested since as far back as 2017, units being able to automatically switch to a set of swimming animations when they move from land into water. I have numerous units that at the moment just walk on or underwater instead of properly swimming as they should. It looks terrible and after over a half a decade I'd love to finally have this feature implemented. I imagine they'd just need some kind of "swimming" variation for the normal animation sets, something like "swim_run, swim_walk, swim_attack_melee, swim_attack_ranged" etc.

     - Glow Shader: Another feature I have been practically begging for since as far back as 2017. I have seen various implementations of this in screenshots but it has to this day never been released. There are many ghostly units and creatures known for their glow effects that are missing them and they look terrible in the game at the moment.

    - MP4 Support: A very low priority feature but one I would still be interested in. There are a variety of pre rendered cinematics I have made for the game and there is currently no way to play such videos during the game itself. We had worked on a very sloppy alternate solution, where a youtube video just pops up in the middle of gameplay but obviously this is extremely unprofessional and looks bad. Honestly any video format would probably be nice, just MP4 seems really common and takes up little space and has been easily implemented into other open source engines I currently use.

    - Someone that can fix everything 0AD updates break: By far one of the biggest hurdles Hyrule Conquest has faced over the last several years and has contributed to killing motivation is nearly every feature we've added breaking with a new version release of 0AD and setting us back in time for months, sometime almost a year. Someone who can help with this in the future would be fantastic.

If I cannot get these features implemented then I'm sad to say that Hyrule Conquest will never be completed, at least not to the objectives that it was trying to achieve since I started in 2017.

    The Stalfos

    1jBAcVk.png

The word Stalfos has its etymology in the ancient Akkalan language, and refers to bones of once living creatures. In modern times the term is applied loosly to almost any undead abomination and monstrosity. As a political entity, the identity of the Stalfos has changed just as dramatically as all the kingdoms that have risen and fallen across the history of Hyrule: due in part to the undead being the servants of many fighting lords and necromatic powers.

    HISTORY

The origins of the rituals and practice of animated skeletons is lost to time. Many Hylian scholars agree that necromancy had its origins west of the Gerudo desert at a time when dragons still ravaged the land. In the ancient lore of the Gerudo and Akkalans, necromancy was common practice during the Ancient Age in the far west of Hyrule. The Kingdom of Ikana and Cobble Kingdoms were famously destroyed during the height of their necromancy practices. Many cults to the forgotten god Mudora practiced necromancy rituals deep in the Gerudo Desert. After King Nohans' conquest of Hyrule, the Ancient Akkalans enforced a complete ban on all forms of necromancy and thus the practice faded for hundreds, if not thousands of years. Petty necromancers and Gerudo Kings have occasionally tried to revive the practice over the centuries, with little luck.

In modern times there have been stories of Stalfos appearing in larger numbers than was usual. Whispers of necromantic powers returning the Hyrule are not uncommon. Indeed, there are forces at work that wish to revive the long forgotten arts of cheating death.

    NECROMANCERS

Without a master, most undead simply wander without any clear objective. Shambling Stalfos and ReDead zombies can be found aimless in the darkest corners of Hyrule, remnants of a long gone necromantic age. Should these horrors ever fall under the power of a necromancer or mage with enough skill, they could be used to wreck untold havoc on the world as a fearless horde of soldiers that feel no pain and no remorse.

    PLAYSTYLE

The Stalfos have a very distinct gameplay structure that deviates from many other factions. The Stalfos are not creative by nature, and cannot construct new buildings or train new units. Rather they can only transform dead material into what they currently need. In terms of structures, the Stalfos must capture pre-existing ruins on a map and by ritual transform them into the buildings they need.

    QpjvSZU.jpg

Should there be too few ruins for their purposes, the Stalfos can expend many Rupees to unearth a new set of ruins at a target location. Once these ruins have been dug up to the surface of Hyrule they can convert them into the structures that they require.

    mpcQu4k.jpg

As for Stalfos units, they accomplish expanding their army by collecting the corpses of their victims and converting them into the forms they need for battle. This is represented by the "Bone" resource, which replaces food. Bones can be harvested from any dead organic creature, as well as graves found on some maps. If a Stalfos player has a unit that can directly raise the dead, they can instead instantly turn corpses into new units.

    HEROES

    Spoiler

    Dampé

    OvBoNhs.jpg

First Appearance - Ocarina of Time

Dampé has gone long unnoticed in Hyrule, serving as an undertaker based in Kakariko Village. While his services have been respected for most of his life, across the decades he has been suspected of and blamed for the increasing appearance of Stalchildren around Hyrule. He denies these accusations... or at least the malevolent intentions implied in them.

    Dampé provides the following bonuses:

    Gravedigger

    Hbv4YA1.jpg

    - Graveyards, Cemeteries, and Tombs create an additional corpse.

    Companionship

    Gabora

    xjTglQK.jpg

    First Appearance - Majora's Mask

Legend has it that those seeking the perfect sword must venture to the dead and pay tribute to the greatest blacksmith who ever lived. In life Gabora and his partner Zubora had earned that reputation, a reputation that lasted long after the lifetime of these famous blacksmiths. Many warriors have sought the lost knowledge of Gabora; few who did have returned from the dead as themselves.

    Gabora provides the following bonuses:

    Zubora's Legacy

    ILT6HU9.jpg

    - All Weapon upgrades are 10% cheaper.

    The Dark Smith

    iEcE0tz.jpg

    - Improves the damage of all melee units.

    Meg

    YJZ5eHC.jpg

First Appearance - Ocarina of Time

One of the four Poe sisters of legend, Meg's lifetime is shrouded in mystery as well as the circumstances leading to her haunting of the Kokiri Forest. Where Meg roams the skeletal remains of long forgotten souls rise and follow. Seeking an audience with this enigmatic ghost is foolish at best; seeking her service is dangerous beyond all reason.

    Meg provides the following bonuses:

    Lost Soul

    nskREOR.jpg

    - Fast moving infantry unit with a very high Dodge rating and Camouflage.

    Earth Bound

    IBAqoLY.jpg

    - There is a small chance that a Poe will spawn from a slain enemy unit.

    Icy Pig Poe

    KZcQraU.jpg

    - Big Poes are upgraded with a freezing attack that stuns their targets.

    Irene

    bNYIdu1.jpg

First Appearance - A Link Between Worlds

Irene once served as one of Rauru's three Deacons. After many disagreements with her master, in time she sought out the dark arts of Hyrule's Witches. The path from honored deacon to rebellious witch to an ally of the undead is not yet clear to the annals of history, but this feisty young witch has been found working with the Stalfos and should be treated as such.

    Irene provides the following bonuses:

    Blue Bubble

    SckhQEx.jpg

    - Small Hovering skull that temporarily reduces the damage dealt by enemies with each hit. Has a chance to become a normal Bubble when destroyed.

    Unearthing the Past

    n85Xeam.jpg

    - Unearthing Ruins is 15% cheaper

    Bubble Summoner

    dGOTC2w.jpg

    - Stalchildren and Battleforged spawn a Bubble when destroyed.

    Blind the Thief

    SlzeHLd.jpg

First Appearance - A Link to the Past

Blind was a legendary thief during his lifetime. Legend says he manged to infiltrate even the Sheikah of Kakariko and steal their vast fortunes. Afraid of losing his treasures, Blind seemed to have earned an audience with a necromancer of some renown and gained the power of undeath. Now Blind roams the western dunes and caves as a relentless Stalfos, killing and stealing anything of value he comes across.

    Blind provides the following bonuses:

    Staldra

    Nc5gbJW.jpg

    - Small multiheaded undead creature that can attack multiple targets at once.

    Necrotic Venom

    W4qaU3E.jpg

    - Stalhounds and Stalhorses now deal Poison damage.

    The Hidden Dead

    ffUJ0hy.jpg

    - Stalkin, Stalhounds, and Staltroops gain the ability to burrow and become Stealthed.

    The Death Sword

    tvmOkxp.jpg

    First Appearance - Twilight Princess

His name has been lost to all record. His origin is obscure at best: rumored to be one of the previous Gerudo Kings before the time of their Great Curse. All that remains of this infamous beast is the story of his sealing deep within the Arbiter Grounds: a story that itself has many versions and mysteries. The Death Sword was charged with the crimes of unearthing and re-instituting Necromancy after it had been abolished and destroyed from Hyrule. He is considered the father of all current Stalfos that haunt and torment the living of Hyrule.

The Death Sword provides the following bonuses:

    Stalreaper

    j9i3zlY.jpg

    - Powerful mage unit that can hurl blue fire at enemies. Slow attack rate but large splash damage.

    Unrelenting Undead

    hUBf68M.jpg

    - All units (except for Heroes and Battleforged) now have a 10% chance to instantly respawn with 50% health when destroyed.

    UNIT ROSTER

    Stalchild

    pDI4mze.jpg

First Appearance - Ocarina of Time

The common myth of these small undead creatures is that they are the corpses of young children who fell victim to petty necromancers seeking slaves, a story that is often told to children to keep them from wandering free at night. In truth they may only be in part the bones of children: Stalchildren are the mangled and twisted leftover remains of larger and more elaborate undead rituals, formed into small automatons to be used for menial labor.

    - Stalfos Worker unit

    Eyesoar

    k8njI1S.jpg

First Appearance - Oracle of Ages

Very small disembodied eyeballs kept animated by dark magic, Eyesoars are used by necromancers to spy on their enemies and potential victims. Carried by small skeletal wings, the Eyesoar can hover into many places that others cannot reach.

    - Can hover over any terrain.

    - Can detect Camouflaged and Stealthed units

    Stalkin

    l1uHWEy.jpg

    First Appearance - Twilight Princess

Stalkin are the collective name of skeletal warriors raised from the corpses of small sized enemies. While their appearance takes on the form of their original skeleton, Stalkin usually all behave the same way; mindlessly shuffling towards their targets and stabbing them with any sharp instrument they can get their hands on.

    - Anti-Cavalry

    - Can be raised from the corpses of small sized enemies (e.i. Kokiri, Bokoblins, Mogma)

    - Default variation is a Kokiri

    Bubble

    yTeK762.jpg

First Appearance - The Legend of Zelda

Bubbles are small floating skulls of which their complete body has been lost to time. Sprouting wings from the sides of their desiccated heads, Bubbles are able to hover about and will viciously try to bite and tear the flesh from their victims.

    - Can hover over any terrain.

    Stalhound

    OljZ2Qi.jpg

    First Appearance - Twilight Princess

Stalhounds are the corpses of canine creatures that once served as guard dogs for their masters in life. The resume their duties even in undeath, guarding graveyards and other locations important to the raising of more dead. Eager to please their masters, Stalhounds are one of the few undead abominations that are able to run swiftly as they did in life.

    - Can run despite being undead

    Staltroop

    3N8wUhC.jpg

    First Appearance - Twilight Princess

Staltroops are the collective name of skeletal warriors raised from the corpses of medium or average sized enemies. While their appearance takes on the form of their original skeleton, Staltroops usually all behave the same way; mindlessly shuffling towards their targets and slashing at them with any sharp instrument they can get their hands on.

    - Can be raised from the corpses of medium sized enemies (e.i. Hylians, Gerudo, Zora)

    - Default variation is a Hylian

    Poe

    aRq64pS.jpg

First Appearance - A Link to the Past

The Poe ghosts never left the earthly realm but remained restlessly by their own graves. When the graves were disturbed, the ghosts would appear, swinging their spirit lanterns to attack their living foes. Many dark necromancers would seek out and bind these tortured souls to their causes.

    - Can hover over any terrain

    - Can and pass through any object.

    - Has Camouflage.

    Battleforged

    641MuIw.jpg

    First Appearance - Wind Waker

The product of twisting and combining the parts of many a warrior, the Battleforged were created in ancient times explicitly to fight and destroy the enemies of their masters. The reputation of these monstrosities is that they are impossible to destroy: smashing them apart would only temporarily halt their advance as they assemble themselves back together.

    - Corpse can be rebuilt when destroyed, Battleforged will respawn at 50% HP

    - Corpse can be destroyed by enemies before being rebuilt.

    Stalhorse

    uklf5B0.jpg

First Appearance - Breath of the Wild

Animated mounts of dead horses, these swift running undead carry Stalfos warriors into battle. Their masters often use these beasts to precede their invasions; raiding farmers and smaller targets to leave behind fresh corpses for the army to raise upon arrival.

    - Can run despite being undead

    ReDead

    kKAYDj2.jpg

First Appearance - Ocarina of Time

A nightmarish skeletal creature that stalks deep beneath the earth, there are many legends as to the origin of the ReDead. Some believe they are the result of failed immortality rituals, others say they were guardians of Sheikah graves twisted into the service of evil necromancers. In the employ of the Stalfos they are sent in to completely demoralize their foes: the visage of a ReDead causes uneasiness in almost all who look upon them... and their ghastly screams can completely paralize even the bravest of warriors.

    - Stuns enemies with each attack

    - Adjacent enemy movement and attack speed is reduced

    - Small chance of respawning with 25% health when slain

    Stalfos Knight

    luBCN4W.jpg

First Appearance - A Link to the Past

Once noble lords and warriors in life, Stalfos Knights are the skeletons of those that abandoned their codes in exchange for immortality. Indeed they received what they sought, though as slaves to their necromantic masters. All should beware the Stalfos Knight in combat: they have had centuries to hone their skills that were already formidable in life.

    - Resistant to most forms of melee damage.

    - Damages all adjacent enemies when destroyed.

    Big Poe

    zaFvN3S.jpg

First Appearance - Ocarina of Time

These large spectral menaces have taken to spreading their misery far beyond their grave and seek to drag the living into Poehood. Like their smaller counterpart, the Big Poes will relentlessly bash attackers with their lanterns. Their victims slain, the Big Poe will drag their spirits from their bodies and bring about more Poes.

    - Can summon Poes from the corpses of most enemies, as well as replentish attached battalions.

    - Can hover over any terrain

    - Can and pass through any object.

    Phantom Rider

    D7Q4pc7.jpg

    First Appearance - Twilight Princess

A ghostly knight from ages past, these Phantom Riders come from a time lost to history. Now mindless slaves to their masters, Phantom Riders are sent out into the night to cull and reap unsuspecting populations. Normal weapons have little effect; perhaps some kind of magic must be used to banish these specters to the underworld.

    - Immune to most non-magic attacks.

    - Can hover over any terrain.

    - Can and pass through any object.

    Stalgiant

    lWEhWuH.jpg

    First Appearance - Link's Awakening

Stalgiants are the collective name of skeletal warriors raised from the corpses of large sized enemies. While their appearance takes on the form of their original skeleton, Stalgiants usually all behave the same way; mindlessly shuffling towards their targets and bashing at them with their large appendages.

    - Can be raised from the corpses of large sized enemies (e.i. Hinox, Bokonox, Darknuts)

    - Default variation is a Bokonox

    Poe Necromancer

    rkaXE6U.jpg

    First Appearance - Twilight Princess

The long departed spirits of ancient necromancers, these phantasmal Poes hold the secret to everlasting undeath in their grasp. When the Stalfos roam around and invade to increase their number, the tall and lumbering Poe Necromancers will glide across the battlefield and animate the slain corpses of their victims.

    - Can raise Stalkins, Staltroops, or Stalgiants from enemy corpses.

    - Can hover over any terrain.

    - Can and pass through any object.

    Stalmaster

    t6gXzSM.jpg

    First Appearance - Skyward Sword

The pinnacle of undead warriors, the Stalmasters are champions of their necromantic lords. Wielding four weapons in their many hands, Stalmasters have had centuries to perfect their fighting skills with a wide variety of implements. The sight of a Stalmaster can only mean one thing: his large army is about to invade.

    - Commander unit

    - Three of its four weapons can be customized (default is all swords)

    - Attached Battalion has increased movement speed and parry rating

    Lost Soul

    YmZDfGR.jpg

First Appearance - Ocarina of Time

A Unique Unit that can only be summoned by Meg. There is little lore on the identity of the people who became these animated corpses. The most common belief is that there were soldiers in the employ of Meg long ago, brought forth from the dead by dark powers deep in the forest. Whomever they were, these Lost Souls wander the dark corners of the forest and challenge anyone they come across. They attack with surprisingly skilled swordplay for an undead creature and are able to parry just about any blow.

    - Can run despite being undead

    - Extremely high dodge ability.

    - Has Camouflage.

    Blue Bubble

    o57TOSJ.jpg

First Appearance - The Legend of Zelda

A Unique Unit that can only be summoned by Irene. Immolated variations of the floating Bubble skulls, these burning blue monsters carry with them a dark curse that they spread to their victims. Those bit by these undead find themselves struggling to hit their targets, as if jinxed with poor aim and reflexes.

    - Can hover over any terrain

    - Temporarily reduces damage of enemy unit with each hit.

    - Has a chance to transform into a normal Bubble when destroyed.

    Staldra

    GeA1z5y.jpg

    First Appearance - Skyward Sword

A Unique Unit that can only be summoned by Blind. The animated remains of a monster that predates all history and myth. These multiheaded creatures are able to attack from any and multiple directions, making it impossible to surround them. They seem to also possess the ability to regenerate, making them very difficult to destroy.

    - Can attack up to three targets simultaneously.

    - Regenerates HP when idle.

    Stalreaper

    zsKKH0Q.jpg

First Appearance - Oracle of Ages

A Unique Unit that can only be summoned by the Death Sword. In some cultures these undead mages are known as the Blue Stalfos, but in all myths they play the same role: reaping the souls of the living to add to their growing armies. The Stalreapers seem to be powerful mages with command over Blue Fire, and perhaps were well studied war wizards during their old lifetimes. They can torch just about anything with their burning attacks, as well as defend themselves with their scythes in a melee.

    - Can hover over any terrain.

    - Blue Fire continues to damage enemies adjacent to target location.

    Stallord

    0nJ3oXj.jpg

    First Appearance - Twilight Princess

A massive and impossibly ancient skeleton deep within the Gerudo Desert, the Stallord is believed to have once been one of the many ancient dragons that ravaged Hyrule before the dawn of history. Gerudo mythology claims their elder gods slew the dragon and used its corpse to make the world, burying the skeleton deep in the desert. Should the skeleton be removed the Gerudo believe the world will come to an end. The animated Stallord himself is a slow moving and crawling monstrosity that can vomit up dusty corpses and amass a following of Stalfos soldiers to follow him.

    - Stalfos Legend unit

    - Summons Stalkin, Stalltroops, and Stalgiants from corpses of enemies.

    - Is followed by a large battalion of replenishing Staltroops.

@The Undying NephalimWell defined or like sparkle beams?

With multiple attack skills, especially for mages, and the "Hero" AI for making Majesty style stuff I'm curious how good you can get particles to look, like lightning, shadow, fire, ice, water, etc. I think Heroes from the Wizards Guild would have several elements available and typically have 3-8 attack skills depending on how the player specializes the Guild. Would stink to mostly have different colored masses of sparkles like Glest particles.

I feel like the way particles work right now is good for most effects, especially things like fire, cloud or smokey effects, sparkles, and bolts of lightning. The only particle that I've not been able to recreate well in 0AD is a solid beam like some kind of laser. There are always gaps in the laser beam even when I set the particle spawn rate to an absurdly high number.

@The Undying NephalimDo you have a video of HC with lots of particle action happening?

I'm getting ready to do the Mandate style health/shields/mana changes and then probably adding items and the new construction styles but I'll probably get around to particles after that.

I don't have a dedicated video trying to show particles, but I'm sure there are instances in a lot of my videos. A lot of my Zora units use particle effects, such as the Sapphire Warden. The Gerudo Ice Archers have an arrow/particle effect combo.

@The Undying NephalimCan you make magic particles or are you limited to arrow stuff?

Magic projectiles are not hard to do, just add the particles in question as a prop to a unit's actor file and attach it to the "projectile" bone.

Particle actors to attach to bones are found in art\actors\particle

and particle behavior is found in art\particles

  10. The Sheikah Cadre
    7Z0DTnZ.png
The Cadre is the ruling body of Hyrule's seven Sheikah Clans. Composed of the elders of each clan, the Cadre forms a council that is moderated by the high Maz Koshia, or eldest Monk. While each clan has their own laws and acts with a degree of autonomy, the rule and order of the council can and will dictate what the Sheikah as a whole do.

    HISTORY
The Sheikah as a people are ancient, dating back to the times of Akkala. While records of their deeds are few, many legends surrounding the Sheikah placed them as mediators between Hyrule and the Oocca. The Divine Oocca would use the dark arts of the Sheikah as an instrument, rooting out corruption and demons. This role seems to survive into modern day despite the absence of their Oocca masters.

The Cadre's goals are not explicit to outsiders, though it seems in general they wish to direct history and avoid cataclysmic disaster and change. To accomplish this the Sheikah have adopted extremely subversive and secretive methods: Spying, bribing, black mailing, and assassination to change the course of events rather than military or diplomatic might. If there is a great and powerful monarch in Hyrule, odds are the Sheikah are responsible for putting them there and keeping them alive.

    THE SEVEN CLANS

    1C2aTuF.png
The Cadre are currently composed of seven Clans. Throughout history there were many more, and indeed there may be additional clans that have long since departed Hyrule. Each clan operates much like an independent state with oversight from the Cadre council. They provide resources through tribute, as well as spies, information, and soldiers. The Sheikah Cadre's military is small but highly disciplined and skilled, due in part to the long lifespan of their people. It is usually segmented and broken between each clan, but multiple clans will form combined armies when directed by the Cadre.

    PLAYSTYLE
The Sheikah are few in number, but their soldiers are generally stronger than those of other armies. Within the Cadre's roster there is a high emphasis on speed, dealing damage, and most importantly: stealth. Many Sheikah units have the ability to hide under the noses of enemies, which can lead to many sneaky strategies and circumventing enemy armies.

    HEROES

    Paya
    aSbQNbv.jpg
A young prodigy of Impa's, Paya lives a humble life in Kakariko Village. To others she appears to be a meek and clumsy fool, but it is merely her manner of gathering information and secrets from those that let their guard down around her. She is skilled in the art of drunken monkey and fighting with a quarterstaff.

    Paya provides the following bonuses:

    Protective Guidance
    QNoNHis.jpg
    - Trainee Battalions spawn with a free Protector.

    Cucco Eyes

    - Player gains Line of Sight of Cuccos when a unit has moved adjacent to them.

    Low Profile
    kfSBrAe.jpg
    - Trainees gain Camouflage

    Purah
    3CxEIzF.jpg
The older sister of Impa, long ago Purah discovered the secret of eternal youth. She has never revealed the dark art to any, and despite being well over a century old she still retains her youthful appearance. Despite her advanced age she does not appear to have amassed the wisdom of her younger sister; she has been known to be driven by petty and vain desires. Many other Sheikah find her unbearable to be around, something that Purah seems to approve of since she prefers to live as a hermit alone.

    Purah provides the following bonuses:

    Hidden Folk
    BYGizfB.jpg
    - Shadowfolk gain Camouflage.

    Secret Identity
    dO0xJmK.jpg
    - Shadowfolk have a chance to secretly spawn a Spy when slain.

    Hawkeye Masks

    eyfM5yQ.jpg
    - Upgrades the Hawkeye unit, doubling its range and increasing its attack damage.

    Sheik
    LMNsQZw.jpg
A mysterious figure that does not seem to hail from any Sheikah Clan, the warrior known only as Sheik is found in the service of the Nirvata Monks. Sheik's presence is often a portent of a cataclysmic event about to transpire in Hyrule, and death is sure to follow.

    Sheik provides the following bonuses:

    Dead Hand
    ZvkDWJc.jpg
    - Undead Creature unit followed by a Battalion of Deadarms. Enemies slain by the Dead Hand add additional arms to its Battalion.

    Face the Darkness
    aBJXFIf.jpg
    - Creature units gain additional HP and Magic Resistance.

    In Plain Sight
    Diu7EHy.jpg
    - Assassins and Saboteurs remain invisible even when attacking.

    Kohga
    JmK7Bju.jpg
The Chief of the Yiga Clan, Master Kohga has long lived on the frontier of Hyrule and is an ardent supporter of his clan's supremacy within the Cadre. Despite his attempts the Cadre has pushed the Yiga Clan away from their council, leading him to be disillusioned with the other Clan chiefs. Kohga himself is boisterous and full of pride, though he often seeks to gain people on his side through lavish gifts, parties, and bribes.

    Kohga provides the following bonuses:

    Demon Carver
    JSfpdQk.jpg
    - Melee unit that siphons health as it attacks enemies.

    Yiga Traditions
    yez1c73.jpg
    - Trainees, Brigadoons, and Blademasters have increased stats all around.

    Frontier Roughness
    GpT6EuL.jpg
    - All non-creature, non-mechanical units gain additional HP.

    Impa
    kH8hQO9.jpg
The Chief of both the Kakari and Naldari Clan as well as the Sage of Shadows, Impa wields unprecedented political power within the Cadre and has long served both the Sheikah and the Royal Family of Hyrule. Perhaps the best swordsman in the history of Hyrule, her presence is often met with fear or reverence, depending on who is friend and foe. To those that do not know Impa she is seen as a cold and emotionless killer, perhaps an appearance that is a result of her extreme age and distance from society. She is in truth a very motherly figure to those that have her in their lives, perhaps an echo of a life she could have had in ages past.

    Impa provides the following bonuses:

    Executioner
    UlEk0aS.jpg
    - Melee unit with a large sword that ignores all armor. Has a small chance of spawning a Devoured when killing an enemy.

    Naldari Traditions
    UPSWvlA.jpg
    - Non-magic armor of all non-creature, non-mechanical units is increased.

    Naldari Shields
    2xXVWS2.jpg
    - Trainees and Blademasters gain Shields, increasing all types of armor.

    Maz Koshia
    21ekaWy.jpg
The eldest of the Nirvata Monks and the most feared sorcerer of the Cadre, Maz Koshia has long lorded over the council of Elders and influenced the Cadre for centuries. With the exception of his brief appearances at the gathering of council, Maz Koshia lives in utter isolation deep under the earth, amassing untold dark powers. He is utterly disconnected from the rest of his kind after centuries of isolation, and none know his true motives.

Maz Koshia provides the following bonuses:

    Nirvata Monk
    c5W9EVq.jpg
    - Melee Mage unit with a lightning attack. Has a small chance of spawning a ReDead when slain.

    Shadow Ward
    q6F3ANz.jpg
    - Increases the Magic Resistance of all non-mechanical units.

    Mind's Eye
    xbAw5uc.jpg
    - All non-creature, Non-mechanical units have a chance to spawn a Moa when slain.

    UNIT ROSTER

    Shadowfolk
    3bL2l0f.jpg
Shadowfolk serve as the workforce for any Sheikah Clan. While they have more privileges compared to the worker classes of many other cultures (such as the right to own limited land), they are still considered the lowest social class within Sheikah society. As with any civilization, they build, farm, mine, and provide all the infrastructure needed to grow.
    - Sheikah Worker unit

    Trainee
    H9mzygT.jpg
Trainees are the young initiates into the Cadre. Each Clan picks from their Shadowfolk promising individuals to train in the various Sheikah combat arts. After a decade of service the Trainee is promoted and specializes in particular roles, such as being a Spy or Assassin. Trainees are armed with weapons from their respective clans, such as Ninjatos for Kakari or Sickles for Yiga.
    - Standard Melee combat unit

    Protector
    yefpYCT.jpg
Protectors serve as personal guardians for their respective clans. They are often used as the bodyguards of important figures by the Cadre. The Protector has mastered the art of turning an enemy's attack against themselves and have been known to parry everything from arrows to magical attacks.
    - Support unit that can be attached to Battalions
    - Extremely high parry rate against all attack types
    - Increases the parry rate of attached Battalion

    Hawkeye
    aq8epR5.jpg
While there are many cultures who practice impressive archery across Hyrule, the Sheikah have made accuracy with a bow their own art. Hawkeyes are infamous for their uncanny ability to hit exactly what they set out to hit, regardless of the chaos of battle.
    - Ranged archer unit
    - Has permanent 100% accuracy, except when debuffed by enemy abilities

    Spy
    18TNIJp.jpg
Information is the center of Sheikah culture, and their impressive networks of Spies is the means in which the Cadre carries out that tenet. Most Clans have their own Spies and have developed an entire economy of buying and selling information between clans. The Spy themselves are trained in combat, usually armed with ninjato or short sword. The Spy is Stealthed and can only be seen by Detector units and buildings, they can however see other Stealthed units.
    - Has Stealth
    - Can detect Camouflaged and Stealthed units

    Brigadoon
    x7YBPXK.jpg
The legendary Brigadoons serve as horsemen and raiders for their respective clans. Despite the fact they ride on horses, many stories tell of the Bridagoons appearing suddenly without any warning of their approach.
    - Fast moving Cavalry unit
    - Anti-Cavalry attack
    - Has Camouflage

    Needler
    K3K2D4z.jpg
The needle is one of the Sheikah's signature weapons and has a wide variety of uses. From harassing an enemy on the battlefield to torturing an interrogation victim, the Needler is generally feared by those who have heard stories of them. The Cadre often employs them to track down and capture people of interest, especially when information needs to be extracted.
    - Medium Ranged attack unit
    - Armor Piercing
    - Has Camouflage

    Smoke Screener
    O4p6EMa.jpg
The Smoke Screener is a master escape artist. They are often used by the Cadre to aid with heists, kidnappings, or assassination. The tools of the Smoke Screener are many, but they often use a traditional technique of throwing Deku Nuts that explode into smoke.
    - Ranged Support unit that can be attached to a Battalion
    - Attack slows down enemy units, reduces ranged accuracy and line of sight

    Saboteur
    wObD1z4.jpg
Sometimes a fortress really is impenetrable and cannot be scaled or sneaked into. Enter the Saboteur; the Sheikah's less subtle answer to breaking and entering. The Saboteur carries with him an explosive contraption that can destroy a building's foundations with ease.
    - Siege unit that can place explosive bombs on enemy buildings
    - Has Stealth

    Assassin
    ORwsSoi.jpg
The ultimate instrument of the Cadre, the Assassins enforce the final judgement of the Clans and have long shaped the history of Hyrule. Should a king step out of line, a noble get too ambitious, or some wizard delve too deep into the magics of demons, the Assassin would carry out the will of the Cadre and remove them from history. Once marked by the Sheikah there are few who could survive the attempts on their life from one of these skilled murderers, and even then the Cadre would only send in another to finish where the first failed.
    - Powerful Melee unit with high Critical Hit chance
    - Has Stealth

    Blademaster
    TogIXoc.jpg
A Sheikah that has dedicated their century spanning life to martial combat. The Blademaster is unequaled in skill with a sword and their many decades in combat make them unmatched commanders.
    - Melee Commander Unit
    - General stat boost to nearby Battalions
    - Deals Knockback and has a small chance to stun enemies

    Ghoul Rat
    wIcXQmr.jpg
Vermin that have been tainted by the magic of demons, Ghoul Rats are used by the Cadre to spread disease and clear areas of groups of people. The small size of Ghoul Rats make them perfect at finding ways of sneaking into fortified areas, and legend says a Ghoul Rat can slip through even the most fortified of walls.
    - Small and cheap Creature unit
    - Can pass under all walls
    - Has Camouflage

    Crowling
    bN0WLAW.jpg
In Sheikah legends these Crows are said to be guardians of the underworld, preventing unworthy souls from leaving their tombs and returning to Hyrule. They are relatively rare in modern Hyrule, though the Cadre still uses them to send messages, scout, and harass their enemies.
    - Flying Creature unit
    - Steals resources from targets
    - Has Camouflage

    Wallmaster
    67Oic7L.jpg
A monstrous disembodied hand given life by strange and evil magics, Wallmasters on their own hide in the deepest and most remote places minding their own business. The Cadre sometimes dominates these vile creatures and uses them to their own ends, be it pinning down enemy targets or smashing the walls of buildings.
    - Grabs nearest enemy unit and immobilizes them
    - Functions as a Siege unit when attacking buildings
    - Has Camouflage

    Floormaster
    7mWWD6u.jpg
A smaller but no less threatening variation of the Wallmaster, the Floormaster skitters around like some kind of arachnid and kills any living creature it happens upon. The Cadre will capture these monsters and use them against their enemies.
    - Melee Creature unit
    - Splits into three tiny Floormasters when slain
    - Has Camouflage

    Moa
    KsVmI3r.jpg
The Moa are believed to be the souls of dead Sheikah that failed to attain mastery over the dark, cursed to wander the underworld. Some Sheikah Monks will use them as familiars or pets to help them see hidden things within the world.
    - Support Creature unit that can be attached to any Battalion
    - Provides Camouflage and increased Line of Sight to attached Battalion
    - Has Camouflage

    Devoured
    NE18Ece.jpg
A horrific monster said to be a Sheikah Monk overtaken by dark magics. Devoured appear to be little more than rabid monsters, but the Cadre knows that some evil intellect guides them unseen. The Sheikah have found ways to dominate these monsters and use them to fight against other demons that would threaten Hyrule.
    - Large Melee Creature unit
    - Attack stuns non-mechanical, non-undead units
    - Can transform into a slow moving ooze that has Stealth

    Dead Hand
    UpEbYsh.jpg
A Unique Unit that could only be trained by Sheik. The origin of Dead Hands seem to be shrouded in mystery, though some legends say they are those executed wrongfully by the Cadre who have risen to take revenge. The Dead Hand itself is a patient and slow moving monstrosity that is lacking its hands. They will rip apart their victims with their large mouths, leaving the corpse behind so that a large worm like arm and hand may grow from it.
    - Large slow moving Melee Creature unit
    - Killing enemies transforms them into a Dead Arm, which becomes part of the Dead Hand's Battalion
    - Can accumulate up to six Dead Arms

    Demon Carver
    ViwtUbW.jpg
A Unique Unit that could only be trained by Kohga. Dating back to the oldest days of the Sheikah, the Demon Carvers were select warriors trained to fight and kill the most dangerous of demons creeping into Hyrule. Exposure to such monsters of madness has made the Demon Carvers themselves somewhat insane, and they have been known to ritually bathe and drink the blood of those they defeat.
    - Melee Infantry unit
    - Deals increased damage to Creature units
    - Recovers Health with each successful attack

    Executioner
    GasHx0l.jpg
A Unique Unit that could only be trained by Impa. Wielding a large butcher's blade, the Executioner plays an important role in Sheikah culture. As their name implies, they execute the criminal individuals of the Cadre that step out of line or fall too far into the darkness. In battle the Executioner can use their two handed sword to damage enemy armors.
    - Melee Infantry unit
    - Armor Piercing attack
    - Small chance that slain enemy will spawn a Devoured

    Nirvata Monk
    WyH4puF.jpg
A Unique Unit that could only be trained by Maz Koshia. The oldest living Sheikah in Hyrule, the Monks of the Nirvata Clan blend the line between life and death. In ancient times is it believed that they served as messengers between Hyrule and the Oocca and may still serve such a role. Having lived many decades in complete isolation and darkness to contemplate and discover the dark secrets under the earth, the Nirvata Monks are detached and distant even to their own kind. In battle they bring ancient magics to bear on their enemies.
    - Melee Mage unit with lightning attack
    - Deals Splash Damage
    - Small chance of transforming into a hostile ReDead when they are slain

Bongo Bongo, the Phantom Shadow Beast
    AutNMw4.jpg
An ancient monster that the Cadre had sealed beneath Kakariko Village in ages past, the creature known as Bongo Bongo has become nothing but a vague legend even to other Sheikah. The Nirvata Monks at times have sought to master and control this demon for their own ends in the past. Many attempts have failed, resulting in Bongo Bongo bringing havoc to Hyrule until it could be sealed away again. The monster itself appears as a large headless corpse with disembodied hands that follow it around as it goes.
    - Sheikah Cadre Legend unit
    - Has Camouflage
    - Spawns additional Wallmasters as it takes damage.

  11. A random question, but where are the Rally point flag textures and what files control which ones appear for each civilization? This is something I keep forgetting to do and I can't seem to find where they are in 0ad's files.

including three Sundials that won't change season with other buildings:o

This is probably what is actually causing the problem, only one Sundial is a allowed to exist so there's a bug if it's letting you make more than one. Multiple sundials in different seasons are probably causing an infinite loop of unit promotions.

Is there a way to make it gradual, and only promote a smaller number at a time? Seasons rarely change instantly in the real world at least, so it would make sense from that perspective if nothing else =)

The Fairies changing the seasons is a pretty large scale magical effect, not exactly natural. That being said, I'd not be opposed to the change being like a shockwave that slowly spreads across the map from the Sundial after it changes the seasons. I have to work with what's in the engine currently and I'm not skilled enough to make my own components.

Promote so many units at once... so that's why the game freeze several seconds if Kokiri (when didn't picked Saria) researched Guardian Fairy tech at Fairy Seclude with a bunch of units:o

Yup, that Kokiri tech works in a very similar way to the Fairy Seasons, they both cause units with a certain classlabel to promote into a different unit. In the case of the Kokiri though it's only certain units, with the Fairies every single unit and building promotes at the same time. I can imagine that is probably taxing on the engine when there are hundreds of fairy units and dozens of buildings all trying to promote at the same time. Hopefully a less expensive method of transforming units into new units is incorporated some day.

I guess it can't be done with techs? and switching the visual actor ?

With the Fairies their units have completely different functions in each season, so a visual actor change is not enough. The Great Fairy is a healer with no attack in Spring for instance, and has a fire attack in Summer and cant heal.

I found that if I play as Fairies of Tarm on Tarm Ruins, it will freeze the game eventually after revealing too much map detail... but play as Labrynna won't freeze even after revealed the whole map, and Fairies of Tarm won't freeze the game on Gerudo Oasis:o

Maybe bacause my PC only has 8GB of RAM? (I always play with low poly patch)

8GB of RAM should be fine, especially since you are playing with the Low Poly patch. It probably is a graphic related problem if disabling particles solves a lot of the issues though. I suspect the Season switching is unrelated to the visuals and might be memory related since so many units are being promoted into different units at the same time. Once there is an easier way for me to use the Season system in 0AD without having to force so many units to promote at the same time that might help. Unfortunately at the moment the promotion system is the only way to have transforming units in 0AD.

btw I really like that sprite of Saria you have as your pfp. ;)

I got it to work. As we talked about though, sadly it does not do what I thought it does.  I should probably point out that it does not cooperate with Auras and gives a large error message if a unit with an Aura promotes:
