  1. Thanks! (y)

I am noticing some aliasing in the screens though. The screenshotter not turn his AA on?

Yeah... that's my fault. Just ordered a new laptop and the first thing I'm going to do is retake all the press kit screenshots. :D

Edit - as an aside, will Xbox360 players and PC players ever come up against one another? Or are the two platforms separate?

An Xbox port was originally planned but at this time, it's unconfirmed. If DOF is popular, we will look into a console adaptation after its release and present more details then. It would also be outsourced as our team will continue to work on the original DOF for some time with support, patches, and regular DLC.

  2. Hey Wildfire!

A lot of us at Reverie are sharing in WFG's latest triumph's - congratulations on the latest alpha! I think it's actually hindering DOF development a bit for the moment. :D Keep up the excellent work!

Nevertheless, here are some long-time-coming updates on our MMORTS. (y)

We are well into our Closed Beta, and preparing for our publisher announcement and marketing drive early this Fall before we finally wrap up and release Dawn of Fantasy! At the end of this month, our CB will move into its third wave, which will focus testing on our skirmish modes as well as our innovative and new single-player adventure, Kingdom Wars! So we've been doing a lot of polishing lately and we're working on the new ships and some art overhauls - as well as a beautiful new box art design.

More updates and media can be found on our site!

  3. My brother loved Boulder, so that would be my suggestion. He only stayed for a year because he missed his girlfriend, but he loved the academics and social life. Everyone on the hall left their door open and just walked in eachother's rooms to hang out and everyone went to the football games, and that's not the case with the school he transferred to.

  4. Thanks for the comments and suggestions. ;) I'll definitely pass them along.

Not sure what's going on with the flickering shadows. I'm guessing it's a result of editing to speed things up, but you won't see that in the game. This video was never really meant to be released (a publisher requested a video showing some of the highlights before their next meeting) so it was just a really quick job - I believe our Producer actually recorded the footage in an internet cafe while he was away visiting another publisher. But it turned out pretty good and we went ahead and released it as we haven't released a trailer in ages. We'll start work on some actual trailers shortly.

We are also in the process of greatly expanding our art department, so we hope to implement cinematic models and many more animations to make everything smoother.

    Thanks again!

It was nice of to eat like a local and dig into America's healthy delicacies. :)

And I read you get 15 years minimum if you by accident kill or injure a roadworker? WHAT? What if he throws himself in front of the car?? I was very stressed out.

Hmm, this isn't really the case. Pedestrians do have the right-of-way but it can still be their fault if you hit them. For road workers, you should always slow down for construction zones but they should be far enough away and there should be enough warning cones that you don't have anything to worry about.

There was a case not long ago when a football player was driving/speeding drunk and hit, and killed, a person and got off scot-free (except for a short suspension from football) simply because the person was jaywalking.

  6. And WHY call it soccer? What has your American football anything to do with feet?

I remember learning about this. :)

The term soccer came from the English, not the Americans. They set up a national football association, which decided to refer to football as "association football." Somewhere along the line, this got shortened to "assoc" which, was often referred to as "soccer" in slang. So don't blame us for the name. ;)

As for football, there is some logic behind it. American and Canadian football is deeply routed in rugby and football and it took its name from its origin. Also, in its earlier rules, American/Canadian football had a much greater emphasis on kicking, which was eventually changed to passing.

  7. Excellent advice! ^

While in Minneapolis, make sure to check out the MALL OF AMERICA - the largest indoor mall in the world (I think).

I *believe* there's a larger mall in Canada and a good amount spread throughout Asia. But all the same, it's a lovely mall with an aquarium, theme park, movie theatre, lego center, etc. :)

And if you're driving through the DC area, always keep some change on you. There's a lot of toll booths around here.

  8. Sleeping in your car... in most places, it shouldn't be dangerous but that all depends on where you stay. And you should check local laws first, in many states, it is illegal to sleep in your car outside of designated rest stops. You can get pretty cheap hotels outside of the really popular areas during peak season. Or there's always hostels.

And like Mythos says, it's a pretty darn big place. I personally think the northeast (Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont) and the northwest (Oregon, Washington) are beautiful - especially in the Fall. Some popular locations... Washington D.C., Times Square in New York, Las Vegas, New Orleans (or what's left of it?), Florida Keys, the Alamo, San Francisco/California, Mount Rushmore. Obviously you can't expect to see a whole lot of the country in two weeks.

  9. Did anyone hear about Natal at E3? It's really cool and it's Microsoft's way of outdoing the Wii. Basically it's a completely hands-free motion sensor, RGB camera, and mic that senses entire body movement, not just your wrists, and can even detect changes in emotion and put your image on the tv or can scan papers into game renders (check the Milo video).

Lionhead Milo - This one is *really* stunning. Check it out!

  10. Anyone still following? :)

We have a DoF forum at HG with some nice showcases and an interview and we're getting a DoF Heaven at HG. Reverie has also been releasing a lot of new media updates. The scenario design editor looks wicked. They will launch their new website next week and the beta will begin later this summer. They also secured a new publisher since Lighthouse went bankrupt but won't tell us who until the details are finalized. Game should hopefully be out by the end of the year.

  11. The game was a huge disappointment. The hype was great and I got so interested I ended up staffing HG's portal for Spore. But after it came out, the only worthwhile part were the editors. The gameplay is extremely repetitive no matter which route you choose. Where fans were told they could spend countless hours playing each stage before getting bored, it actually takes five minutes to notice that you're just going in circles doing the exact same things. The final phase, the space phase, it somewhat more entertaining but it's a lot of idle traveling and getting lost, for me at least. :)

And "interacting" with other creatures is ridiculous. To ally with another city, you have to present them gifts, dance, play music, etc. but you'd be doing these same actions for half, while fishing for tribute resources and defending your own city, an hour to get them on your side. And after they're on your side, they don't do anything to help you unless you save up big and pay them to send a mercenary army against an opponent. Alternatively, you can just go in there and kick their @#$%.

It doesn't have multiplayer. It has something called something along the lines of massively online single-player. Meaning if you're connected to the internet, you can upload your creatures to the web, download creatures, run into randomly chosen creatures created by others, upload youtube videos, and view your friends' stats. But you can never actually play with or against another person.

If you like god-games, I'd suggest sticking with The Sims. Or better yet, practice up those RTS skills for 0 AD. :)

That's too bad. I've always been a fan of having a game like this, where you start off as 1 person/cell and you become a civilization and interact with other civilizations/worlds/creatures.

"Civlization" might be worth a try. Or if you like RPGs, something like Diablo or World of Warcraft. In pretty much all RPGs, you have a unit and you have to level up, fight bosses, interact with NPCs, etc. In Civilization, you start with one or two villager units and make a settlement and advance in ages to "build an empire to stand the test of time."
