  4. Since we have three North African civilizations (Ptolemies, Carthaginians, and Kushites) already, I thought that one located entirely south of the Sahara would be welcome as well. So I am going to suggest the Nok culture that thrived in the area of Nigeria between 900 BC to 200 AD. There's not a lot we know about them, especially since they don't seem to have used a written script, but they have left behind numerous sculptures attesting to an artistic tradition that would influence those of later West African kingdoms. Nok Culture on the World History Encyclopedia Some choice Nok sculptures: I don't think we know for sure what language the Nok people spoke, but I would use Yoruba or Ibo vocabulary for unit and building names since those are some of the cultures influenced by the Nok culture. Below are some images showing what these cultures looked like in more recent periods: Yoruba palace compound (I think) Yoruba house Ibo house Ibo warriors with armor Ibo warriors with spears and shields In addition, as part of this larger representation of West Africa, African rainforest animals could be added to the game. Game could include the bongo, guinea-fowl, okapi, gorilla, and forest elephants (which I believe are already in the game), whereas leopards and chimpanzees would be predators. 7. @Tyrannosaurus also I recommend trying multiplayer when you feel ready (unless you already are). It might be hard to find a lobby or 1v1 for your proper skill level, and if you get stomped on don't get flustered. At the end of the day, playing versus real players is way less frustrating than playing vs AI. Ask around for tips, because nice people will give them to you.

  8. To get into it you can decrease the game speed and lower the difficulty of AI enemies. I use women not only for food, but also for wood; their gathering speed is not worse by much and they don't cost wood to produce. You can try to collect so many resources that eco down time doesn't hurt you. You can leave some soldiers to collect while others fight; note that with each rank their collection rate significantly worsens. To improve eco research storehouse tecs, to improve fighting research forge tecs. There is no way around manually telling your soldiers to fight. There are videos on youtube for build orders, and somewhere is a guide from @Yekaterina. hth

  14. I disagree with some points: 1300 minimum (league could also be open for all skill levels) 100 games seems too much, could also be 20 or something limited to 3 months might also be to complicated, you could remove that 0AD is free, so having one account should also be free. It's not necessary to let rating decline, as players can keep their skill level over a long time even when they dont play rated. Why not just treat ratings as Lichess does? If someone does not play rated, the uncertainty of the rating increases. After a weak or so, the player gets removed from leaderbords, and when uncertainty reaches a certain level, the rating gets marked with a question mark, so you can see that its very uncertain. Playing rated reduces the uncertainty. +1 for team leagues and rated team games Theoretically the 1v1 rating and the team rating of each account could also be identically. I think Age of Mythology does it like that. And theoretically its not necessary to register teams for rated team games. Just make sure that your team mates are no rage quitters if you play rated....

  15. Thanks, @andy5995 Speaking of biomes, I'm trying my hand at creating new ones for the random map generator. This one is for a "Congo" biome that is tropical like the India biome, but with African instead of Asian wildlife.

  16. @Stan`Looks like it hasn't. If it's abandoned and someone wants to update it and submit a PR to community maps 2, I'll test it out.

  17. @Tyrannosauruswhat you can do in the meantime... Make sure atlas is closed. Copy (from the 0ad data distribution archive or svn repo) `binaries/data/mods/public/maps/random/rmbiome/randombiome.js` into this directory (On Linux): `$HOME/.local/share/0ad/mods/user/maps/random/rmbiome` (make the directory if it doesn't exist) (On Windows): `C:\Users\{name_of_user}\Documents\My Games\0ad\mods\user/maps/random/rmbiome` (On OSX): /Library/Application Support/0ad/mods/user/maps/random/rmbiome Open the file and near the top, you'll see a section that looks like function setSelectedBiome() { // TODO: Replace ugly default for atlas by a dropdown setBiome(g_MapSettings.Biome || "generic/alpine"); } You can change "alpine" to something from this directory `binaries/data/mods/public/maps/random/rmbiome/generic/` After that, when you generate most random maps in Atlas, it will have the biome you've set. Does anyone know if there's an existing ticket for what's mentioned in the 'TODO' line up there? @Stan`@Freagarach

  19. I guess for countries with strong ties to the jurisdiction under which the company is based in this is actually relevant as the other jurisdiction would be cooperative, (extradition and such). However, given that we are not a legal entity in the US or anywhere else for that matter, we don't really have that much legal rights anywhere in the world. For any legal matter, someone from this community (probably the person responsible for hosting the service) has to represent as an individual. This is all how I interpreted this stuff, but based on that, its actually better to keep the status quo. At least until an actual lawyer can advise on the legal ramifications. As for the large companies, well they have in-house counsels who are more than happy to shred through any and all red tape. I have absolutely no idea what I am talking about though.

  26. For information on the Seleucids specifically, I can highly recommend: Susan Sherwin-White, Amélie Kuhrt From Samarkand to Sardis : A new approach to the Seleucid empire (Berkeley and Los Angeles 1993) Most publications on the Seleucids are biased by essentially Helleno- and Romano-centric sources and historiography, and often by 19th C colonianist and imperialist notions as well, thus fundamentally reinforcing traditional views. SW&K stands out in that it makes extensive use of Babylonian cuneiform records and various Asian archaeological sites. It makes a strong and convincing case for grounding the Seleucids as a successful continuation of Neo-Babylonian and Achaemenid traditions, as well as correcting various misconceptions.
