  1. What's the worst, most bone-headed mistake you've made while playing 0 A.D.? Here's mine: A week or two ago, I launched a major invasion shortly after moving to Phase 3. My army entered opponent's territory, defeated some units, and then captured an elephant stable. I selected the elephant stable and deleted it. Except that I had accidentally selected, and deleted, my entire invading army.

  2. That can be upgraded to 4 with the technology living conditions. Pericles will add a global +2 to the heal rate. Now I probably need to use that competitively with Athens hoplite champions, +6 HP per second.

  4. As a Rome enthusiast I like the idea that Triarii have elite rank, that feels very historically accurate and overall a nice buff. Insula is also a nice addition for historical flavour. Maybe we can have our Sibylline books back too after all they only get burned a few centuries later Something I would like to suggest is the expansion of the allied troop roster, perhaps adding an Italic slinger or archer. Mercenaries could also be an option. We already have Balearic slingers and Creten archers available in the game code and Rome appears to have used both in the Punic wars, so there is historically room to maneuver within the time frame of 0 AD. Overall it would be nice to have a more flexible Roman military. On a rather different note, what about allowing captured elephant stables to train elephants for whoever has captured them? Currently they are useless unless you can already train elephants yourself. Captured war elephants feels like it could be rather fun.

  6. This is about the ratio between Horsemen and Infantry. From the Bronze Age to the Iron Age, the ratio was on average 50:1 which, interestingly, was the ratio to the Egyptian Army during the Ptolemaic Dynasty. At it's height (their Army was small in number, but expensive and Professional enough to be considered a world-class army) the Army consisted of 200,000 Foot Soldiers and 4000 Horsemen, (not including Chariots) and also a huge number of Warships, 1500. This would be able to transport both Infantry and Horsemen and then some. Any more facts about the Ptolemies?

  10. Just today I canceled my first batch of 6 women in a rated 1v1, right before it was completed. On another 1v1 some time ago, I destroyed my own CC not unlike you did with the elephant stable. I was trying to get rid of some women.

  13. Hello modders, I am artoo, dev of artix linux, and have started the han china standalone mod some time ago. Despite my rather limited time for a game, I chose to register an account, since the communication on Github is rather non existent. Reason for the thread, I am looking for testers of the current master branch and thus hopefully feedback. I was also hoping to reach m7600, and if these nice new models for fortress, walls and the big tower could be added. I am basically a coder, not really skilled with images and 3D arts. Aim of the Han mod is to have a very polished, complete and unique faction, that might be included in the main game as far as I know. For that to happen, in my view, there are some open tasks, just to name nice rice fields as one. I could coordinate the development of the mod, if required, until inclusion is the offer.   14. In previous alpha, I used to set rally points for cavalry units exiting stables for efficient hunting as shown below. The cavalry would go behind the deer and chase it in direction of the cc/farmstead, collect the food before moving to the next deer. A big advantage of this is that the order would be given to all cavalry units produced by the building as long as I didn't change the rally point, leaving me time to focus on other actions on the meantime. I could add scouting through rally point after the hunting and many other actions without any issues. In this alpha, if I try to do this, the cavalry units will simply move through all rally points, ignoring the deers. If apply the same principle for other tasks, like for example setting rally points on each berries then a tree next to my cc, all women produced, as long as the rally points remain, will collect berries before moving to wood when the berries are over. The only case where it doesn't work seem to be for hunting. I tried to apply it on chicken next to the cc, so there wouldn't be issue with vision. All chicken get ignored until the cavalry reach the last rally point. If the last rally point is a chicken, then the cavalry start hunting, but if it is not a chicken then the cavalry unit won't hunt. So it doesn't seem to be about the chicken exact location when the cavalry reach the rally point. I would guess that hunting can't be set as an intermediate rally point anymore. Is that correct? Any reason for this change ?

  15. I released v0.25.8 yesterday. It's available in the usual locations, but additionally now also available from the Arch User Repository (AUR). Note that it won't appear in the 0ad mod menu unless you have also installed 0ad from the Arch/Manjaro package manager as well (the mod gets installed to /usr/share/0ad/data/mods).

  19. I was playing a team game once as Seleucids from pocket position and I wanted to rock with chariots. So after some booming I am 200 pop and I start to make the chariots. I needed a population space, so I have deleted some women. As I am spending all resources as soon as the get in, I do not have a lot of wood. There are about 80 infantry and 2 women chopping wood and I need the population space. So I grab the bunch and instead of selecting the women from the group, I deselect them and delete the 80 infantry. Since I am low on wood and these units were my wood gathers, I have no wood income to remake them. I end up doing fertility festival to get my population back up, which actually means that after some time I had more women than I had before I started to delete them. The worst, in the end noobdude runs trough my base and after the game he brags how well he has played and how good Sparta is. If I did not delete about 80 infantry, he would not even make it to my base.

  21. Athenians are very underrated. They can hit their foes pretty hard with Iphikrates, traditional hoplites and sword cav. Their mercenaries are not to be underestimated neither.

  22. Yea @Lion.Kanzen Daut seems to be picking up on AoE4 very quickly. Did you see his video where he was delhi and rushed out 2 towered war elephants? AoE4 has a lot of geat game design, but I feel they went backward in more than a few ways.

  26. Yeah, and even that audience seems quite unsatisfied. I think the main problem is that they tried to make a game for competitive multiplayer, but at the same time they watered it down also for the casual audience, making something that should appeal to everyone but nobody in particular. In fact, there is a lot of criticism in that video. But I think is helpful because this review seems pretty clear and accurate and it would avoid to make similar mistakes as well. Also, it confirms the idea that the production has been pretty lazy because of the many perplexing choices

This whole thread started a bit random and a bit for fun, but it's been a great opportunity to experiment with the modding tools of 0ad and bring together some cool talents in the forum on a shared project. Hopefully this could be also an opportunity to update this mod and bring some new interesting assets and feature to the whole 0ad project! So thanks to everyone that has helped so far and showed interest in the idea! Since there seems to be some participation, to make things easier I thought to open a small little Discord channel to keep the communication tidy and easy for everyone: https://discord.gg/jjGjFhcw so maybe is possible to discuss some details and ideas without clogging too much the forum with only a particular topic. So for everyone: feel free to participate!   33. Thanks, yes, currently almost every .js will break because it makes some calls to functions that no longer exist and also interval actions have changed. This may take me a bit to go through, once I have fixed the first 5 missions, I'll make a post and ask for some testers.

  36. What 0AD lacks is the possibilty to simply load a match. That way the crashed games would not be totally destroyed but they could at least be loaded. It would not solve the issue completely but if we assume that people are behind the "ddosing" it could demotivate them a bit, maybe.
