  2. Right, back player wouldn't make p2 to even establish a market given the amount of wood. I'm fine with there being disadvantages either way as well. Merely wanted to point out the potential problem with that specific mapgen/option since it caters towards mainlanders. Think the unknown/random land map option also produces the kerala setup? These are nice options to have in the game. Breaks up the same ole mainland, mainland, mainland ad nauseam positions/strategies. Included the "Besides Ally" with 4 & "Stronghold" with 3 teammates.

  5. I think it is. Currently the back player has no territory gain in p2/3, and may easily have no access to any woodlines. The center player may have little territory too, but at least is having more fun. Polygon placement (as in Kerala) may be a good alternative. Or maybe polygon placement, but with CCs closer, as you would suppose a stronghold is.

The name is from Spanish "batallas en la inmundicia" the players stars with very low resources, plenty enemies even players vs enviroment. free for all battles the objetive is controls the center of the map and steal other players resources. but the center of this map have plenty of most powerful savage beast. Can be champions or heroes in our case and some beasts. this map will be based in AoE 2 map by Matakito ( Mayorcete's friend) , I talk about proposition, he is interested.

  10. for what I know it places 8 CCs in a totally random fashion, and then, if you selected the "random group" option, it assignes them to players so that allies are not mixed with enemies. Red Sea also works like this. I've played various matches in A25 in Frontier map with various bioms, and people are always complaining there is not enough wood, and it's true, there is much less wood in the new bioms than before. Even though Frontier is a cool map, I'm not playing it anymore for this reason.

  14. If I don't like something, I don't read it. Could make sense for certain situations to insert an option how many lines are displayed to me in the title and how many lines are displayed to me in the lobby chat. No idea if player mute works for lobby chat. At some point games were displayed in the title bar for days / weeks and the host was absent (playerlist). I did not like that so much.

  15. I don't know if this is a good solution. A new room come by default "nick_game", this would already take up much more than 10 characters, besides the fact that few characters make it difficult to customize matches, you would have many 1v1 1200/ 2v2 1600 etc...

  19. @Freagarach-willing, Delenda Est will have battalions by default... eventually. Then you'll have battalion vs. battalion battles instead of some weird mosh-pit hybrid.

Vllt. ist es Dir nach @Freagarachs Link schon klar, aber: das Pausen-Symbol ist ja generisch, d.h. es kann sich auf ein beliebiges Objekt bzw. Auftrag beziehen; werden solche GUI-Hinweise generell in Klammern angezeigt? Im Handbuch finden sich übrigens noch etliche englische Wörter, wenn Du von unten kuckst stößt Du schnell drauf (Delete, MouseMiddle...).

  28. I actually agree with that, I have sometimes whished here in the forum for some changes that would have that effect, but I don't believe formations are good for it. My point is that, being relatively slow, battalions would just never succeed in engaging any enemy, except for other battalions. This kind of feature would be very hacky, and very very hard to implement, and what for? Just for some minority of battles being accepted in the open? I don't see it as a good idea.

  29. The disadvantage to Iphicrates' formation based bonus versus an aura based bonus, like +25% attack, is hard to overstate. You can't micro the units at all. Take any of the civs with a hero that gives an aura bonus and you can micromanage the units inside the aura to prevent overkill, focus attention where you want it- whatever you want- the bonus still applies. Do that with Athens and poof, suddenly no bonus for any of your troops. The easy, temporary fix, would be to give Iphicates an aura. As a side note, Themistocles' and Pericles' bonuses are either only useful for naval maps or barely at all in any scenario. The only hero with a decent bonus for most scenarios is gimped due to the formation based bonus. It is the only hero in the the entire game with such limitations. This comes back to whether formations work or not. If formations are meant, as suggested here, to only position units before battle, then they aren't what I would consider to be a formation but rather something like "marching orders." Soldiers weren't arranged into formations simply as a way of organizing them on the way to battle. Formations for battle should have a function once the battle commences. Dropping the formation entirely because you want the units to engage in a specific task doesn't make much sense to me. Elements of armies would be arranged in formations to achieve specific outcomes in battle. The phalanx and syntagma formations were critical to everything from how the individuals would be equipped to the expectations of how they would fight as a unit (including where the battle would take place). These were systems with functions. Again, this is one reason why people just don't use formations- they don't work intuitively and often will create situations where your troops in formation struggle to even move into position to fight effectively while getting pummeled by enemy attack the entire time. It often only takes a few seconds of units struggling with the formation pathfinding to be destroyed by an enemy who is paying attention. If it has to be the case that giving specific commands to a group of units that are set into a formation renders the formation setting null, then there needs to be an alternative way in which to order the formation into battle such that they can achieve a goal while maintaining the formation. An older RTS game, Battle for Middle Earth 2, had an interesting way to order formations into battle that might be worth looking at.

Matakito ( Mayorcete's) make this map for AoE 2, he plays regularly these days , so I ask him if I can go for this map in 0 A.D he is interested, he is testing the game. this map is for multiplayer, and consist in "be bad neighbor" stealing resources and bring Gaia hostile units in to the enemy territory, the center is protected by Gaia, but you can use tactics to make your own path or find the way to get with the center. in Matakito's version the other player build camps and houses in your territory to have gold, in my version this resource is in middle of two player, but like original map the gold mine is small, there are another similar with stone next to gold one. in Matakito version he puts powerful jaguars and "Iron boar"(700 hp). So I added some hostile War dogs and Hero elephants and plenty enemies, in order to have a imitation of bring enemy Gaia into other players base. you start with female villager and some male slaves. an elephant worker to help you to steal resources. primal resources some far than regular map.( 0 A.D maps) this resources are in the rear. the map symbolize the dirty of a peasant : the poverty. So the setting must be 150 pop and lowest resources at starting. the map is skirmish unlike matakito's version. Matakito explore the center to bring jaguar to the Mayorcete base, other player do the same and fight against each other. my first test was 1v1 and take an hour the second test was 2-3 hours free for all 6 players (Ai).

  39. The posts are in this thread. It doesn't contain hundreds of posts on 20+ pages (which I would understand if someone doesn't read through those). It's only 3 pages long and takes 5-10 minutes to read through. If someone doesn't do that and comes up with a point that has been discussed 1(!) page earlier he certainly doesn't deserve a polite answer from my point of view. That's why I reacted the way I did. In short the quotes that revolve around the single soldier <-> battalion mechanic. Hf reading.
