  1. It has been like... 10 years? I clearly remember the first prealphas, and then the first alphas. How the game started to grow, Civs, AIs, MP. I was 18 at the time, holy jesus. I did a trip around my country that year, I remember checking 0 a.d progress when I was bored in libraries. The thing is that I got older, I'm trying to spend less time in front on my computer, AoE have been remade (and now I have money to buy it), and I feel that 0 A.D got stuck on the gameplay. Anyway, I think is one of the most amazing open source videogame projects, with a lot of potential and hard work behind. As you noticed, this years I have been less and less active. I put that everything because I spend a lot of time here, and have some emotional value. I probably will look from time to time to the new versions, but overall I'm saying goodbye. Stay safe, enjoy what you like. PD: rename that Skiritai Commando to Skiritai runners or ekodromos, "commando" is a modern military notion! Just for real now, logging out!

  2. @Mentuhotep, you're barely adding anything of value to this thread, and are in fact derailing it. This thread is about the Kingdom of Kush, not about "black Egypt" or whatever. In fact, your posts are irrelevant to almost anything pertaining to this game. This isn't a political forum, and this isn't a forum to have racial arguments. The internet is already full of those, and we try to keep things as civil as possible here. The one argument on which I'll admit you sort of have a point is about the color depicted on Kushite temples. Color is very poorly preserved on Kushite monuments, especially the more southern ones, but from the few surviving examples, varying tones of red (especially darker red) were indeed most commonly used, following Egyptian standards. If you'd just stuck to that argument, no problem, it's a *potentially* valid criticism. But on the other hand, none of the major temples depicted in-game have surviving color on their exterior facades and it's worth noting the famous Kushite granite statues were often deliberately blackened. Yellows are often used for Egyptian gods and goddesses. Kushite women are never depicted yellow. That said, please refrain from further spamming this, or any other thread with your unnecessarily racialized posts. Race is not the focus of our development team. Thank you. @Genava55, not to lend too much credence to our new fellow, but I see this study referenced rather carelessly all over the place. From the very same study you linked: "However, we note that all our genetic data were obtained from a single site in Middle Egypt and may not be representative for all of ancient Egypt. It is possible that populations in the south of Egypt were more closely related to those of Nubia and had a higher sub-Saharan genetic component, in which case the argument for an influx of sub-Saharan ancestries after the Roman Period might only be partially valid and have to be nuanced." The study involved genetic material from only 3 mummies from the New Kingdom, out of 90 mummies. The other 87 were from later periods, post-New Kingdom. None of those 3 older mummies had full genome sequences because the DNA was too degraded. And all the mumies came from a single location 100 km south of the Delta, and was compared to modern DNA from the Delta. This tells us very little about Ancient Egypt as a whole, especially not Upper Egypt or Egypt prior to the New Kingdom collapse. To make it worse, the "Sub-Saharan" samples used for comparison came primarily from the West African Yoruba and Mandinka and Central African Pygmies, instead of Sudanese, or other North East African black populations, which is ridiculous of course... The scientists of that study even acknowledge it themselves when they wrote: "Clearly, more genetic studies on ancient human remains from southern Egypt and Sudan are needed before apodictic statements can be made." Also, "Absolute estimates of African ancestry using these two methods in the three ancient individuals range from 6 to 15%", which isn't even that negligible for people so far up north into Egypt, more than 600 km north of the border of Lower Nubia and almost 850 km north of the border with Upper Nubia, from a bird's eye view. That would be c. 730km and and over 1000km respectively, when following the Nile. I honestly wouldn't have suspected any common ancestry using the proxies they used... Also worth noting that there were deportation events of Kushites (and I presume those perceived to be Kushites), from Egypt, most famously under the Assyrians who bragged about not leaving even one Kushite in the land (definitely hyperbole, but still relevant). Perhaps this illustration will emphasize the pointlessness of a "black vs white Egypt"-debate, which isn't only completely anachronistic, as those modern categories meant next to nothing to ancient Nile populations, but also because Ancient Egyptian identity wasn't a racial identity in the first place but a cultural, religious, linguistic and political one. Egypt has always been a crossroads between North Africa and the broader Mediterranean, the Levant and the Middle East in general, and Nubia and Subsaharan Africa. These guys are both Ancient Egyptians, it's that simple:

  3. I was vaccinated today and was forced to stay at home today so I started messing around with technologies part of the game. Eventually I tried my hand at making some new ones and of course I got some questions about it like what are the unit's classes/tags, ie: human,soldier....., ? And can I be more specific ? Like using cavalry, champions,.... I ask the same for structures. So here's what I've done till now Archimedes' Screw Phase II, farmstead +10% grain gather rate for all units. +10% faster metal collection for all units. Here's what I have: { "genericName": "Archimedes' Screw", "description": "An engineous contraption able to transfer water or any other liquid to higher elevations, facilitating the irregation of fields and the transport of mineral clumps.", "cost": { "wood": 300, "metal": 200 }, "supersedes": "gather_farming_plows", "requirements": { "tech": "phase_town" }, "requirementsTooltip": "Unlocked in Town Phase.", "icon": "farming_training.png", "researchTime": 50, "tooltip": "Workers +10% grain and metal gather rate.", "modifications": [ { "value": "ResourceGatherer/Rates/food.grain", "multiply": 1.2 }, { "value": "ResourceGatherer/Rates/metal.ore", "multiply": 1.2 } ], "affects": ["Worker"], "soundComplete": "interface/alarm/alarm_upgradearmory.xml" } Ballistics Phase III, workshop Adds/Increases area damage on siege engines by (x) aumount and increases their projectile speed. 300 stone 300 metal #I have no idea how to do this. Secret Police Phase I, sentry tower +10 meters of LOS ( line of sight) to all structures and units. Have I missed something? { "genericName": "Secret Police", "description": " Infiltration of the lower classes by informants loyal to their ruler, effectively increased their hold on their territory and subjects. Increases the line of sight of all human troops.", "cost": { "food": 200, "metal": 100 }, "requirements": { "tech": "phase_village" }, "icon": "pigeon.png", "researchTime": 40, "tooltip": "+20% vision range for human units.", "affects": ["Human"], "modifications": [ { "value": "Vision/Range", "multiply": 1.2 } ], "soundComplete": "interface/alarm/alarm_upgradearmory.xml" } Archimedes Odometer Phase II, CC Structures are built 20% faster. # I've made this but I don't what to put in here, " "affects": ["****"], " { "genericName": "Archimedes's Odometer", "description": "This distance measuring machine made masonry not only faster but more precise as one could easily determine the distance covered by counting the droped pebbles.", "cost": { "stone": 400, "metal": 200 }, "requirements": { "all": [ { "tech": "phase_town" }, { "civ": "syrac" } ] }, "icon": "statue_face_stone.png", "researchTime": 60, "tooltip": "Structures −20% build time and resources cost", "affects": ["Builder"], "modifications": [ { "value": "Builder/Rate", "multiply": 1.25 } ], "soundComplete": "interface/alarm/alarm_upgradearmory.xml" }

  4. @vinme The fact that we don't know Many single players, doesn't mean that they are a small minority. Also if we serve single players well, they might become more active and that could strengthen the community.

  5. Full genome sequence is not the same thing than genome wide sequencing. In archeology, full genome sequencing is very rare. However, genome wide sequencing is common now. The difference is that with genome wide sequencing you take various markers at various positions of the genome. I don't see this as an issue, this is far enough for a comparison study. Abusir el-Meleq is a great choice I think. It wasn't a unconnected and remote location in Egypt. It had ties with religious and political powers. I don't think the sample is not representative of the average Egyptian, although they are maybe missing local input from foreign population like it could have been in the South or in the North-East. True, they put all the 44 Pre-Ptolemaic samples in the same group and New Kingdom is only a small part. Good point. Because you are clever and not following ideologies. Listening to the claims of some Black nationalists/supremacists, I have the feelings they believe Egypt was mostly black (aka Sub-Saharan) until very recently. Which is at least contradicted by this study. I entirely agree. This labeling is pure ideology. Ancient Egypt is an African civilization that's all. Even if they weren't as dark of skin as modern subsaharan, they weren't white. And they were dark skinned Egyptians as they were also light skinned Egyptians as well since Egypt is a culture, not a race.

  6. Well given the current lobby activity and the fact we had 300k downloads on mac and windows last year and linux users are 50% (so 600k in total) of our user base I suppose they aren't playing MP. Well there was, and you got A24, and now we opened it more.

  7. Yes, a lot of the early Egyptologists were explicitly racist and I addressed this head on, even in my very first post in this thread. The whitewashing done by previous generations of academics does not give us carte blanche to blackwash all of them in the current generation. Two wrongs don't make a right. That statue on the left isn't Hemiunu. That's Akhmeretnesut, "superintendent of the Royal gardens". He's from a different dynasty and the statue was found in different tomb. https://collections.mfa.org/objects/140412 So should we be suspicious of your posts? You obscured the original head prior to restoration with text. Let people judge for themselves if the statue was accurately restored or not: None of those other reserve heads depict Hemiunu and were not found in his tomb, so they have no relevance to the Hemiunu statue or its head, which isn't even a reserve head but the original head, found broken off besides the statue. In this case, G4000 refers to a cemetery, not a single tomb. "G4000" is also used interchangeably with Hemiunu's mastaba, which can understandably cause confusion, but none of reserve heads come from Hemiunu's mastaba, but from other tombs in this fairly large cemetary. The location of all the reserve heads found are depicted in this plan, indicated with small circles. The large mastaba (4000) on top, belongs to Hemiunu, and as you can see, none of the reserve heads come from that mastaba. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/333095517_The_'Reserve_Heads'_some_remarks_on_their_function_and_meaning That's because that fragment was actually found in Hemiunu's mastaba... 12. I am wondering if damage buff in the 5-10% range for archers and slingers, combined with proper adjustments to run speed for things that would otherwise be problematic is enough? Is there an RC3 or would I need to figure out a build to test the charging mechanic?

  13. This. No reason not to let the next week or two play out and release the next alpha. The we start anew with an actually understanding of how the current RC looks. Delaying now just sets us up for this exact conversation again in 3 months. Meanwhile, a delay would also ensure that an unpopular alpha that has already resulted in the loss of several players unnecessarily remains around for even longer.

  15. On the contrary, the "blackness" of the 25th Dynasty of Egypt is well understood and acknowledged by the team. What is rejected is binary thinking such as "these people are black and these others are not," when reality paints a more nuanced picture full of gradations. Along the Nile could be found and still can be found a spectrum of melanin content from very dark black to light brown. The very much black African @Sundiata who curated this thread can speak more on this. His nefarious agenda may surprise you.

  16. This is very interesting, there should be a mod with several cool mechanics that appear to be used .I believe that here the only thing missing is an on/off button for this type of conversion.

  19. nah just tweak the javelineers a bit, make them specialized in bringing down units with smaller shield like pikemen by decreasing their dmg or fire rate and giving a positive multiplier towards small shield units like pikemen.
