  1. So, after almost one week after joining I am starting a new topic where I will submit all my artwork, I will not scatter it across all forum. Before scrolling down, just notice that work i submit here might not be finishedplease leave some feedback or just vote up for the sketches you like or want me to improveDo not spam: just to make this topic clear Be patient: as well as I am employed and studying, the time is precious to me to create these So lets get started. n.1 : The night gathering Spotting the enemy before they spot you , know their location and have a net of "eyes in the forest" is the prelude to good strategy. Romans were in position of invaders and their presence in every foreign land was unwanted and met strong resistance. And fist encounters with new enemies were cruel. Done entirely in photoshop, cca. 5h.

  2. I think that would work very well as an alternate main menu background.

  3. I think we can agree that we can give a good critique without being quite so flagrant. "frankly pretty embarrassing to look at" was not necessary. Does Lion have a bit of room to improve? Yes of course he does. Sharper edges, higher value contrast and clearer features would definitely help him out, but he is practicing, and he's showing us all on the forums so we can give him feedback. I made the same mistakes in my early Carthaginian icons. Still do sometimes. He does have the right to be at least a little ticked off at this statement. Next time please try being a little more technical in your critique. Nolan, I admire your sticking up for Lion but it's also unnecessary. I'm noticing it's spreading to other forums so let's take the hostility back down to zero alright?

  5. I agree that a wolf would be a better symbol for Republican Rome. We could then use the eagle for Imperial Rome later (and then 2-headed eagle for Byzantines).

  7. Very, very nice! The composition seems a little divided along the center IMO The dog helps, but what about a few figures on the left side?

  8. Update: For now, I am working on the design document for the United Monarchy Israelites, spanning the eighty-odd years of David and Solomon's reigns (10th century BC). Here is a map of David's kingdom from Wikimedia Commons, found at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Davids-kingdom.jpg. It is a CC BY 2.0 licensed image, uploaded by Electionworld, from an original upload by Amoruso, derived from an image courtesy of Rusty Russell < rusty (at) wanned.net > from Rusty, Bible History Online, Oct. 30, 2006. Here is a map of Solomon's kingdom, found at http://www.preceptaustin.org/KingdomSolomon.jpg, courtesy of Penn State. I have decided on the pomegranate as the best Israelite symbol to use in the civ emblem. The pomegranate is fairly prominent in the Hebrew Old Testament, and incorporated artistically into both the Temple of Solomon and the priestly garments. Its rich symbolism in that era makes it, I think, a prime candidate for depiction on the civ emblem. Here are some supporting sources: http://www.israelstudies.umd.edu/AboutOurLogo.html 11992-12626-1-PB.pdf The PDF file is from https://ojs.lib.byu.edu/spc/index.php/StudiaAntiqua/article/view/11992/11932 Here is a link to an image of an ivory pomegranate, one which was possibly used in Solomon's temple. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/69/Ivory_Pomegranate_Inscription_%283%29.jpg Here are the units I envision (details and sources are planned for later posts): Citizen Infantry Gadite Swordsman Judahite Spearman (CC unit) Zebulunite Skirmisher Benjamite Archer Judahite Slinger (CC unit) Citizen Cavalry Manassite Horseman (CC unit, javelin) Support Units Israelite Woman Priest of Yahweh (morale/attack booster) Son of the Prophets (healer) Merchant (donkey with cart) Maritime/Naval Fishing Boat Phoenician Merchantman Phoenician Light Warship Siege Battering Ram (simple, team-wielded) Champion Units Benjamite Slinger Philistine Mercenary Swordsman Israelite Mighty Man (spear) Canaanite Heavy Chariot (javelin) Egyptian Light Chariot (bow) Heroes David son of Jesse Benaiah son of Jehoiada Solomon son of David

  10. I don't think it would be a problem if we're just using them as references and inspiration as long as we're not directly copying from them.

  11. The Suebi or Suevi (from Proto-Germanic *swēbaz based on the Proto-Germanic root *swē- meaning “one’s own” people, from an Indo-European root *swe-, the third person reflexive pronoun) were a group of Germanic peoples who were first mentioned by Julius Caesar in connection with Ariovistus' campaign, c. 58 BC; Ariovistus was defeated by Caesar. This is a dictionary of reconstructed Proto-Germanic including rich etymological data. http://lexicon.ff.cuni.cz/pdf/pgmc_torp/pgmc_torp_20061216.pdf

  20. just my opinion... In game maybe refer to them as something like Germanic but update units for the scenarios in the time period of the Franks/Alemanni/Goths. I just think Mega Mania may have brought up a good point. For example The Rome Total war series has made many historical mistakes. By focusing on general culture we could maybe avoid some of these mistakes. Since the Alemanni and Franks were after all just confederations of Germanic tribes. note: One of the major historical mistakes in Rome Total War were the creation of some of the Roman family names. They didn't understand the structure of Roman names and clans.

  21. Yeah, I just played against Macedon today with the Ptolemics for an awesome pikemen on pikemen battle. I got knocked up by their silver shields instead. I would like to see some mercenary settler hoplites along with those brand new romanized infantry. Since the ptolemaics faction are my favorite, may I contribute helmet props for the infantry and cavalry?

  23. Awesome job! How do you texture the models like that though? I never knew you could do that in Blender? I usually select faces on the model and then spend an hour laying them all out on the UV map. I then export the UV map and spend hours painting inside the faces on the UV spreadsheet. Then I open up another program that puts together all the models and textures together and act as a resource to provide to the game I play.

  24. I would hope so, just so that it looks like local stone was used for both buildings. I feel like this is a contributing factor as to why there are so few hellenized ptolemaic buildings modeled thus far I feel like the library and military settlement will particularly be a breeze if that's implemented. Marble library stands out a little much amongst these yellow buildings

  25. I know you won't have time to change it, but that statue looks really bizarre for a monument to conquest. It seems like an old scholar or something, which I'm guessing is not the impression that would have been desired I would imagine something more aggressive and imperial.
