  1. 1. Would you support a WW1/WW2/Modern RTS?

I am new to the forums and wasn't sure where to express my idea. I have been a great fan of the original Empire Earth - with it's expansion pack the Art of Conquest. This is a great classic real-time strategy game which has aged a lot. What made this game so great what it's span of different ages/epochs. Whilst enjoying the older ages/epochs, I also highly enjoyed the more newer ones such as Atomic Age: WW1, Atomic Age: WW2 and Atomic Age: Modern. I really enjoyed bombing my friends.

I was not really a fan of the territories system which was introduced in Empire Earth II, and is seen within 0 A.D.. I enjoyed the ability of being able to building anything anywhere the player wanted.

The 0 A.D. game engine is highly impressive. Whilst I do hold the modding skills personally myself, I wanted to express my idea and see what feedback the idea received.

To put it simply: I want a WW2 real-time strategy, similar to Empire Earth, without territories - or the ability to enable or disable these. I would be happy if the foundation of Empire Earth was copied and improved upon. Maybe we could look into giving unique civilizations unique tech.

Awesome unit skins!

A Jagdtiger would be awesome.

Those are french units :) I only retextured the trucks. The rest was made by the spring 1944 team.

I plan to import other civs but I'm currently looking for a way to automate that.

Always thought about having a decent RTS game of our Spanish Civil War.

- A lot of ideologies clashing in two sides (fascists, nazis, nationalist, monarchist, conservatives vs republicans, anarchists, communist, stalinists, socialist, liberals...)

- Can be seen as a start of the WWII, almost caught by months. Some techs and strategies (tank battalions, heavy air bombings) were tested for first time in SCW.

- A lot of foreigners participated in one side from a lot of countries, as a undercovered allies or individual civil volunteers.

- Late WWI tech with early WWII tech. Some trench warfare, but also effective tanks and jet aircraft. Mostly bolt rifles, some few SMG.

Looking good!

I am just unsure about the name, probably not wise to the original game using the same game name.

Also it's a bit unfortunate Pyrogenesis is under CC-NC.

But I am really looking forward to this, especially if you find a way to mass import all their huge amount of models.

Pyrogenesis under CC-NC?!?!?!

Whoops, I confused their name with the engine of 0 A.D.! As you can see it's some time I was away from the game! :)

The name actually is OK, it's Pyrogenesis 1944, not Spring 1944! Which I think it's a really good name, similar (both referring to their original engine), but not the same.

And I meant Spring 1944 game assets are under CC-NC (so the mod won't be completely free like it is 0 A.D.).

I found a way. but it's not perfect... yet

For their maps https://github.com/StanleySweet/0AD-SpringMap-To-PyrogenesisMap

I'm trying to convert the old perl script of @Ykkrosh to Python for 3Do so I can import them in blender just like s3o :D

3do_pyrogenesis_importer.py

https://trac.wildfiregames.com/browser/ps/trunk/source/tools/springimport

The perl script works somewhat, but if it's python it will work in blender.

And yeah it's a shame it's CC-BY-NC. But the goal is to show how good our engine is and to provide an open source alternative to stuff like Company of Heroes :D I'm taking too many projects at once, but hoping people will join me in this adventure.

Hi

Here sanguinariojoe, probably the last remaining spring:1944 developer (I actually started developing it when it was almost abandoned). I think I can make some comments:

* Regarding the CC BY-NC license, it was a very unfortunate decision they took at the very beginning, which cannot be corrected now. Many developers are out of the radar, so collecting all the permission to get rid on that will be an endless story. There is even a tool (maintained by me) to import s3o models to blender:

https://github.com/sanguinariojoe/blender_s3o_import

I suspect Stan used that to import the models.

Sorry about the crappy logo.

Unfortunately the models imported with Blender and exported to 0AD (collada) shall be binded to the same CC BY-NC license. I would never complain about you releasing the game with other license, of course. Indeed I tried really hard (and unsuccesfully) to get rid of that license. But let's face that, using them you will be in a slippery slope. Sorry.

* Regarding the game itself, they will not be actually similar to spring:1944. The main feature of spring is the ultra large scale combat:

MassiveBattle.png

This mod will be more similar to Brothers in arms. Nothing bad on that. Well, maybe is not working nice for naval battles.

* Related to that, it is interesting the suggestion of av93:

The Spanish civil war was featured by significantly closer combat theaters, mainly because the weaponry was not so developed. I started a project to make a spring game for the Spanish civil war: https://github.com/sanguinariojoe/s44-spain. I even created some models of the republican side, like the Tiznao, the RFT17, the T26, and the arellano gun. Those models you can use them right now.

Summarizing:

If you decide to go with a Spanish civil war mod, I might be interested on that. And I am very sorry for the stupid spring:1944 license (not my bad actually).

Hey! Welcome to the forums.

Oh that sucks. I thought Flozi was still active ? It always sucks to be the last person into something like this.

I suspect Stan used that to import the models.

I used a few stuff, some shady programs cause not all of it  is s3o we also have a barebone s3o importer written in perl from the old days .

Well I don't hope to make money and I wanted assets fast to show it was possible :)

Good! Well I don't honestly have the bandwith to start another mod but I can guide you through it should you decide to switch engines :)

Well, I could help with some history but without an high deep academic profile, more on the pop side.

I'm thinking what kind of XX century gameplay could provide 0 a.d engine, and suspect that squad and cover system would be minimums
